A false spring had settled over the Hogwarts grounds, giving students hope.
Remus knew it would turn cold and damp again in a day or two, but that did not stop him from enjoying the sight of Sirius Black in a muggle T-shirt, smoking a cigarette behind Greenhouse 2.
It was an absolute shame that wizard robes covered up arms, Remus thought absently. The tendon’s in Sirius’s forearm stood out as he raised the cigarette to his lips and took a drag. Remus’s eyes naturally went to Sirius’s mouth next. How could they not?
Sirius flicked an amused glance at him, not unaware of his friend’s gaze. Remus smiled lazily back at him.
“Do you want a drag?” Sirius held the cig out to him.
Remus shook his head.
Sirius shrugged and went back to smoking. He tipped his head against the back of Greenhouse 2 and looked at the sky.
Unbidden, the image of Remus biting into Sirius’s neck came to the forefront of his mind. He cast the thought away almost as soon as it entered. Wouldn’t do, he thought. Wouldn’t do to lust after a friend.
Sirius finished his cig and cast it on the ground, grinding it into the dirt with the heel of his shoe. He took his wand out and cast a spell to keep him from smelling like smoke and another one to clear his breath of the taste.
“Why do you do that? If you don’t like the taste of it, why smoke?”
Sirius turned to him, the sunlight glinting off his stupidly perfect hair.
“I’m always prepared in case you decide to snog me one of these days.”
Remus huffed an obligatory laugh before he even registered the words.
Sirius rolled off his shoulder and came to stand in front of Remus, bracing himself with a hand on either side of Remus’s head. It was a smooth movement. Remus wondered how Sirius always managed to look suave.
“One day, Remus. One day, all my wooing will pay off, and you’ll be overcome with lust, you’ll see.”
His minty fresh breath wafted across Remus’s face, stunning him into inaction. Remus took a deep breath.
Sirius looked utterly serious.
Then, just as smoothly, he spun away.

Remus knew he’d left his Transfiguration textbook in his trunk, he just couldn’t find it.
“You have a plan for tomorrow, don’t you?” James asked, perched anxiously on the edge of his bed.
“What?” Remus grabbed his wand and muttered, ”Accio Transfiguration textbook.”
It came zooming out from under his bed, neatly clocking him in the nose.
“Tomorrow?” James repeated. “You have something planned, don’t you?”
Remus held his hand over his nose and blinked away the reflex tears. James gave him a worried look and continued talking.
“Look, this is important to Sirius, so if you don’t have anything at all it might crush him.”
“James, what on earth are you on about?”
“Tomorrow is your six month anniversary,” James said with an impatient air. “Don’t tell me you didn’t remember!” He flopped back on his bed with a dramatic sigh, muttering about having to do everything his damn self.
“My sixth month anniversary of what exactly?” Remus said, thinking back. Nothing of particular note happened in October, except perhaps Sirius suddenly wanting to spend more time with him.
“Your Hogsmeade trip with Sirius!” James sprang back up. “Get him a gift, or write him a heartfelt letter or something. Anything. You know he hasn’t got any family left to him, you’ve got to step up, Remus.”
“You’re acting like we’re dating,” Remus said.
James looked at him like he was the stupidest person alive. Remus, who had never been on the receiving end of this look, sank down to sit on his bed. “Oh, Merlin, are Sirius and I dating?”
“MERLIN’S SAGGY TITS,” James shouted. “YOU DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE?”
“Realize what?” Peter asked, coming in with half a bread roll hanging from his mouth.
“Peter, are Sirius and I dating?”
“I hope so. He never shuts up about you.”
“He doesn’t?” Remus asked faintly.
Peter looked between the two boys and put together the context of the conversation.
“Oh my God, did you not realize you and Sirius were dating?” Peter squeaks. “But you’ve gone on all your Hogsmeade trips together!”
Remus buried his head in his hands.
“He gives you shoulder rubs when you’ve been studying too long,” Peter continued.
He was never going to live this down.
“Remus, he holds your hand at mealtimes,” Peter finished, aghast.
“I didn’t—I don’t—” Remus gave up and flopped back on his bed.
Then, just as quickly, he sat up again. “He was trying to kiss me,” he squeaked. “On our Hogsmeade trip, but I leaned away, because I didn’t know what he was doing! Oh, fuck. ”
James and Peter exchanged a glance at his cussing.
“ Fuck ,” Remus repeated again. “I’ve absolutely ruined everything. He’s going to be so mad at me, and then I’ll never get to date Sirius Orion Black knowingly.” He moaned and fell back onto his bed.
“What’s this then?” Sirius’s voice came from above him.
Remus cracked his eyelid open to see Sirius grinning down at him.
“What’s got you in such a state?”
“You,” James said and stood up. “Come on, Pete, we have that totally plausible excuse to leave the room now.”
Peter scrambled after him. The door snicked softly behind them.
Remus sat up. Sirius sat next to him, leaning back on hands.
“You’re going to hate me,” Remus said.
“Doubtful.” Sirius aimed a gut-wrenching smile at him.
“I don’t have a gift for our anniversary tomorrow,” Remus said. “Because I didn’t know it was our anniversary, because I didn’t know we’ve been dating for six months .”
“I—How?” Sirius looked almost as aghast and shocked as James had.
“You never asked me to be your boyfriend!” Remus said quickly and accusingly.
“I asked you out to Hogsmeade. I hold your hand—frequently, I might add. I’ve tried to kiss you several times. Eventually, I figured you didn’t want that and decided to let you initiate that one.”
“For the record, I would like to say that I didn’t know you were trying to kiss me, otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have backed away.”
“No?” Sirius’s eyes dropped to his lips.
Remus ignored the quiver in his stomach.
“I’m sorry, Sirius. You didn’t do anything wrong. The truth is, I didn’t think anyone would ever want to date me with my condition.”
Sirius’s expression turned hard and he sat up straight.
Remus waved his hands to cut him off. “I realize that is self-deprecating bullshit, thank you. The possibility just never seemed real, so I didn’t put the dots together.”
“Remus,” Sirius said, sliding a hand, palm up, onto his knee. Remus slid his hand into Sirius’s, relishing the feeling. “Will you be my boyfriend?”
“Yes,” Remus breathed, looking up.
“There, now you have six months to think up a six month anniversary present,” Sirius said with a smile.
“What about whatever you had planned?” Remus asked.
“It’ll be our first official date where both of us know it’s a date,” Sirius said.
Remus nodded. “Then I guess… It’s a date.”

They were behind Greenhouse two again. Sirius pinned Remus against the glass, and they kissed furiously.
Remus detached his mouth from his boyfriend’s to take a large breath of air. Sirius just ducked his head to suck at Remus’s collarbone.
“Don’t leave a mark,” Remus gasped.
Sirius’s teeth scraped against his skin. Remus’s hips ground against Sirius’s.
“Merlin,” Remus growled. He pushed Sirius to the side, spinning so he could press his boyfriend against the glass.
Sirius’s eyes were wide and a smirk crossed his face. “Do you get more dominant closer to the full moon?”
“We’ll have to experiment to find out.”
Sirius whined and pulled Remus against him.
“I wouldn’t mind if you left a mark on me,” Sirius whispered in his ear.
Remus’s hands flexed on his hips. “Pads.”
“Moony,” Sirius said his name back dryly.
Remus pressed their foreheads together. When he kissed Sirius again it was a slow kiss. Warm arousal seeped through his veins.
Sirius let his head fall back against the glass with a thunk. Remus pulled Sirius’s robes aside to expose a shoulder. He pressed his mouth against it.
“This is what I thought dating you would be like,” Sirius confessed in a ragged voice. “This is what I had dreamed of. I thought you weren’t interested in sex or anything adjacent to it at first.”
“As if, did you not notice my long showers?” Remus asked. He went back to sucking on Sirius’s skin.
“Wanking and sex are two different things,” he pointed out. “I decided it didn’t really matter anyway, I wanted to be with you.”
“Pads,” Remus lifted his head and looked Sirius in the eye. “That is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever said to me. Do you often spout heartfelt declarations in the middle of snogging sessions?”
Pink tinged Sirius’s cheeks. “Only with you, you prat.”
“Good,” Remus leaned forward and kissed him again. He pulled on Sirius’s hair a little, and Sirius collapsed against him. “Only with me.”
