    I looked at him like he was the sun.
    In that, I never looked at him except in frustration
    Yet I complained when he was gone.
    I basked in his warmth, thinking it would never go away.
    On the darkest of days I wished he was there,
    And complained when he retired behind the clouds.
    I hid when he was stronger
    And could never look at him properly,
    Always shielding my eyes.
    I never looked at him until he was leaving
    And in the sunset I wondered…

    How had I never seen him before?
