Chapter Text
"No… Sebastian!” She screamed out to her companion, shielding her face with her bloodied arm.
“Avada Kedavra!” A once soft, playful voice she knew, now steaming with anger and darkness, filled the room.

Cahly woke up after her first restful sleep in her dormitory. It would be one of the few, she'd later find out. She was determined to put the events of the dragon attack behind her, and focus on her first real day of classes, and on her new classmates.
Going from a muggle school to a wizardry school was definitely surreal, and more so for her than most. Still, as she walked into her common room, she knew she wanted to get to know everyone. Imelda Reyes was bossing around a fellow student, telling him he was making a terrible move in chess. After a few minutes of chatting, Cahly found Imelda had an unbreakable arrogance, she was bossy, but she could tell, loyal.
Hearing 1st years clambering at the window in search of mermaids, she went to investigate. A boy with cloudy eyes stood there, smirking.
"You're toying with them, aren't you?" Cahly asked, tilting her head to the side.
"First years are so gullible. Like mermaid's really care about seeing what kids are doing." He chuckled, his unseeing gaze fixed in the direction of Cahly's voice.
"Are there really mermaids in the lake?" She asked curiously, getting closer so she could tap the glass.
"Undoubtedly." Ominis straightened out, pulling out his wand. "I'm Ominis Gaunt. You must be our new resident 5th year, who is oddly also a 1st year."
"I am. Cahlystah Kingston." She smiled brightly, holding out her hand, then blushed when she realised he couldn't see it. "People just call me Cahly."
"Welcome to Slytherin, Kingston. I'm sure you'll make things interesting." Ominis mused as he walked away, heading towards breakfast before classes begun. His wand acted as his eyes, and he manoeuvred the area with ease.
Her stomach grumbled, demanding she follow him to breakfast. Before she could move, the flicker of the fireplace caught her eye. She glanced over and saw a boy watching her curiously. Caught, he quietly buried his nose back in the book he was holding. Her stomach grumbled again, demanding attention, but she ignored it for the butterfly feeling in her chest that his freckles were giving her.
"Good morning." She said cheerily, clasping her hands in front of her. "What are you reading?"
"Oh just a book I nicked from the library. I'm always in search of knowledge our teachers might miss. You'll soon find out that not everything you should learn is taught here." His chestnut eyes gleamed in the flames.
"Sounds interesting, I think we should be taught all there is to offer."
"Oh, could you be a kindred spirit? I agree, entirely." He held out his hand to her. "I'm Sebastian Sallow."
"Cahlystah Kingston. You can just call me Cahly." She took his hand, she noticed how soft it was, and felt her ears start to burn. She swore she saw a shade of pink growing beneath his freckles.

Sebastian watched her run off up the stairs. Her bright pink hair surely wasn't natural, but he knew those sparkly amethyst eyes were not because of a charm. They were full of wonder, curiosity, and determination. They were also a beauty beyond words he could think of. His face was feeling hot, and not because of the fireplace. He mused that maybe he actually had found a kindred spirit, and on the first day, too.
