They’re out at Lover’s Lake (Bonkers. Robin Buckley at Lover’s Lake with Steve Harrington) eating smashed PB&Js and over baked oatmeal cookies. It’s been one month since The Incident and Robin still feels like any minute she’ll wake up at the beginning of summer and everything will have been a terrible dream. Steve stares out over the lake. His nose has a bit of an angle to it that it didn’t before. The scabs healed by mid-July. The Steve in front of her is so different from the Steve of a month ago, from the Steve at the beginning of summer. A breeze ruffles his hair and he closes his eyes. Robin wraps up the plastic wrap her PB&J was in and holds out her hand, rests it on Steve’s thigh. He opens his eyes and drops his hand over hers. They watch the lake, listen to the cicadas chitter, and pretend they’re normal teens for one afternoon.
