In theory, they could work.
sherlock measures all the complimentary traits and all the probable arguments, plays out their entire relationship in his head, and comes up with several futures.
in one, they end up with two kids and a house, they’re happy and inlove and Mycroft will have to pay up every decade he bet they wouldn’t last because they would be forever.
Problem is, he would have to quit consulting, take up a normal occupation, which he doesn’t want.
besides, its only thoughts, reality can be gravely different, especially with the changes of time, so why risk it?
