new fabric

Summary:

Agustín is in need of restocking fabric for his tailoring. Julieta happily follows him down to the village.

Work Text:

Julieta swore she had not seen Agustín this excited in days.

Ever since they had woken up, she had been greeted with a happy smile, followed by a warm, gentle embrace from him, and many soft kisses to her lips. This had then been followed by Agustín resting his head on her stomach, both of them laughing with pride as the baby had kicked, their movements growing so strong now, as they were always active. At six months pregnant, Julieta felt constant movements which reminded her that they would get to hold their baby in a few more months. And in the meantime, they spent every morning like this, with Agustín snuggling her, gently holding her belly and pressing soft kisses to it as he talked to the baby with excitement in his voice.

He told stories, sang songs, and just talked about how excited he was to meet them, and it filled Julieta with so much joy, because she could truly see that Agustín was so excited about being a papá again. Soon they would have three beautiful children to call their own, and while Agustín insisted this would be their third girl, Julieta’s mother's intuition told her that it would be a boy. No one could make her believe otherwise. Until she was proven wrong, this baby was a boy.

All of their mornings had been exciting like this for a long time, but today Agustín seemed more happy than usual, and it did take her a moment to remember why. Then, she simply sighs as she teasingly rolls her eyes and gives him a kiss on his cheek.

Today they were going down to the village to buy fabric since Agustín was running out. It was the highlight of his day whenever he needed to restock, his excitement clear as day. Agustín was very proud with his tailoring, and since Julieta was soon becoming heavily pregnant he wanted to make her a few more maternity dresses from scratch, as well as some more baby clothes, to then go back to focus on making some more clothes for the girls.

Agustín had been talking about making her more maternity clothes for days, excited about the time they would be able to go down and get everything, since it was an activity that took quite a bit of time. They would be bringing a wagon with them after all, so that they could stack all of the fabric there and easily transport it back home. Agustín was in need of many colors. Several different shades of blue and teals, of course. Some shades of red and orange, some greens and purples, of course some black and whites as accent colors. And he needed more thread, a lot of it in fact. Some beads, some extra needles, and many more things. And since Julieta knew how seriously Agustín took it, they always planned visits to the fabric shop in advance since she knew what a long time it would take. They had never spent less than three hours in the shop, with Agustín spending a lot of time running his hands through the fabric to feel the texture, and to also compare the shades and colors of fabric that were so similar that Julieta couldn’t tell the difference.

Agustín really took fabric seriously, just how she took cooking seriously. With fabric, he was like a kid in a candy store.

“You’re really that excited about more fabric?” she asks as he moves back up to her, pulling her into an embrace while she nuzzles her head into his shoulder. He’s warm, and she loves having him in her arms, especially during early morning.

“Of course! I’m so excited to make more clothes for you and the little one. I’m thinking of a dark blue dress for you with white accents, and then a white one with teal accents and patterns, and then a few blouses too. And for the little one I want to make some things in purple, Isabela keeps saying she wants the baby to wear purple. And Pepa suggested something in light green too.”

“Those are some very nice colors, amor.”

“They are, aren’t they? I’m so excited to get started on everything. Especially your clothes. You know I love making clothes for you.”

“And I love watching. You always spend so much time on everything, I’m impressed.”

They spend the rest of the early morning cuddling until they finally have to get out of bed. They get dressed, Agustín brushing Julieta’s hair for her before helping her put it up into a bun, and then they go and wake the girls in the nursery, preparing for breakfast which was on Félix today.

It’s a nice breakfast, the entire family together, and afterwards when the dishes were done, they prepared to leave for the village. Bruno had kindly volunteered to watch the girls while they were gone, and Julieta hoped he would have an easy enough time since Isabela was pretty wild, and Luisa would clearly show her displeasure of Agustín not being close by, since she was such a papí’s girl.

As everything was prepared they left the house, walking towards the closest farm where Señor Gomez was lending them a wagon and a donkey. Agustín leads it, while Julieta walks beside, hand on her stomach as she enjoys the weather. Not too warm, yet not freezing. And she of course also enjoyed the company of her husband as they make their way down, having a very pleasant chat as Agustín talks more about the clothes he wants to make her.

“And for the dresses I’ll make sure the top can easily be pushed down without having to take something off, and I will do the same with some special undershirts so that you can breastfeed easily!”

She’s really impressed by his ideas, because it does sound like a very smart solution.

Soon they arrive outside of the fabric shop, and Julieta once more sees the gentle awe in his eyes, as well as the excitement. She was sure he was going to enjoy himself as he bought up what must be half the store. He always did when they needed to restock, buying a little bit of everything.

And it wasn’t as if she was going to stop him, when tailoring was such an important hobby of his.

They spend almost four hours in the shop (with Julieta having to ask the vendor to use the private bathroom three separate times, the baby deciding that now was a good time to kick her bladder), slowly filling the wagon with more fabric and other things as Agustín is indecisive, unable to choose what fabrics he likes the most, so he buys all the ones he were considering. When they leave, it is with a wagon stacked so high with fabric that it looks almost comical.

And Agustín is still talking about how excited he is to make more clothes for her.
