Simon calls you first. It only makes sense, since the layover he's on happens to be in Nevada. Las Vegas happens to be where you live. You pick up on the second ring.
"Simon?" You ask a little breathless, like you were exerting yourself.
"My flat burned down." He says monotone.
"And where are you now?" You ask after a moment. He pictures your eyebrows furrowing, like they usually do when you're concerned.
"Closer then you think." He responds simply. You don't answer for a bit, as though you're weighing the pros and cons of the situation.
"Which airport you at?" You finally say.
The corners of his mouth twitch upwards.
