It was finally Friday and Diane had had a busy day at work and she was tired as hell, but she had been looking forward all week to seeing her amazing girlfriend, Rhea, she wasn’t even thinking about cancelling their date. Rhea was going to come and cook some tamales for her, and then they were going to cuddle on the sofa and watch some movies. Didn’t she have the best girlfriend in the world?!
She heard Rhea opening the door ( she had given her the keys to her apartment a few months ago) and she rushed to welcome her. She could immediately tell that Rhea was really excited about something, like she was just dying to tell her some news.
“ Hey, babe, how are you? How’s Marcus?” she asked after she gave her girlfriend a soft kiss on the lips and hugged her.
“ I’m great, and so is Marcus. He was happy that his daddy was going to buy him some ice cream today” her girlfriend was lucky that she had a great relationship with her ex, and Diane thought that Christopher was a wonderful father. “ What about you? You must be exhausted, but don’t worry, I’m here to take care of you” Rhea gave her a few soft kisses.
“ I’m better now that you’re here. Now please tell me what you’re obviously dying to tell me”
“ You know me too well” Rhea let out a soft chuckle. “ Guess who I run into today”
“ I don’t know, who?” she didn’t think she could have guessed, Rhea knew a lot of people, but she suspected it was someone she knew as well.
“ Mick, and he had a lot of interesting things to tell me”
“ Well now I’m dying of curiosity, what did he tell you?” she didn’t know Mick very well, but she liked him and she was always happy to see him.
“ Remember my friend, Beth? The one who thought that her husband was cheating on her? Well I suggested that she should hire Chris, and he found out that she was right to suspect her husband”
“ I could have easily told her that, just by looking at her husband I would have known that he was fucking his young secretary. I have to deal with shitty men every day, I know that type of guy” she remembered Beth, Rhea’s friend had 4 children and the youngest daughter was Marcus’s best friend. He was always talking about “ Jane, Jane, Jane!”.
“ When I first gave her Chris’s number I never imagined that something could happen between them, you know, but then Beth would ask me questions about him, and it was quite obvious that she wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t mind if she would date my ex. Of course I wouldn’t, I think they would be perfect for each other, I should have thought about it sooner. Anyways, one day she called me and told me she made a terrible mistake and that Christopher hated her?? She was feeling just awful, but she wouldn’t tell me what she had done. I called Chris immediately and asked him what the fuck happened. He said that she kissed him, but then he had told her that they shouldn’t be doing this, because it was completely normal to want to get revenge on her husband”
“ So he thought that she was only interested in him because she wanted to get back at her shitty husband?”
“ Yeah, it wouldn’t be the first time an upset client would try to get in his pants. But this was different, because he actually liked her back, he just wanted to make sure that she truly wanted to sleep with him, and wait until she would get a divorce”
“ That sounds exactly like him. But what did Mick tell you?”
“ I was just getting there, don’t worry. I told Chris that he should make it clear that he is interested in her, but he kept saying that maybe this was for the best. You know how he’s not usually the type to date people, so I didn’t insist. A few months passed by, and I didn’t hear anything about the subject. Until today, when I ran into Mick, and he had a lot to complain about. Apparently, Chris has been sleeping with Beth for months, and he’s clearly in love with her, only he wouldn’t admit it. He insists that it’s just sex between them. He’s acting like a teenager in love and it’s driving poor Mick crazy, he can’t take it anymore. So I promised that I would help him, and this is what I wrote to Beth and Chris” Rhea showed her the funniest message she had ever seen.
It read: Hey guys, get your shit together already, you are not children anymore! You are both clearly in love with each other and you need to stop denying it. Signed: Rhea and very tired Mick.
“ Nice, do you think it’s gonna work?” Diane asked after she had stopped laughing.
“ Yes, but I don’t think they would tell us. We’re probably gonna find out when we will get the wedding invitations in the mailbox in a few months” Rhea said with an amused smile on her face.
“ Not that I didn’t enjoy hearing about your friend and your ex, but could you please start making dinner? I’m kinda starving” she replied sheepishly.
“ Oh, of course! What was I thinking? Sorry, just got distracted about their dramatic love life” Rhea hugged her and then went into the kitchen.
They spend the rest of the night just enjoying each other’s company and having the best of times.
