~~~~~~~ Counting the minutes ~~~~~~
The day started like any other. Sebastian woke up and got called for breakfast. He had many plans for today but almost all of them depended entirely on sneaking out tonight.
He had analysed ever single habit of his father. What time he woke up,what time he fell asleep,when he ate,what he did in the mornings and afternoons. It may not have been alot of information yet it was enough for him to be able to devise a plan on when to exit the house and when to return. He did the same for Lydia but she was kinda hard to do the same with. Either way, usually never bothered him unless she needed something or father called for him through her. Just one day of violin practice and then at night he can execute his genius plan of sneaking through the window. Maybe not so genius but atleast it worked.
His train of thought was shattered by a loud voice from downstairs, "Sebastian! Come down here right this instant!"
"Coming,father!" And with that he hastily put on his clothes for the day and rushed to the table where he sat across his plate of food which barely had any steam coming off it. Gustav did not have a happy face on (did he ever?) but this time it seemed like he may be merciful to whatever he had just done wrong. "We've had this talk before. When I tell you to come downstairs,I mean come down IMMEDIATELY. Do you understand."
"Yes father,sorry father"
"Good. Now eat the food your mother made."
He payed no attention that the food was almost cold as he didn't want to ignite any anger from his father that already seemed slightly on edge despite it still being morning. His mind almost completely focused on tonight and some ideas he has,he stared at his food intensely without breaking contact. Once again,his father breaking him out of his joyful trance.
"And don't forget your lessons today" his head jerked towards to violin who definetely hadn't been used for a day or maybe two. Sebastian reassured him and barely 2 minutes after that conversation was already heading off to practice,grabbing the violin with him.
The session had been almost like any other. He played perfectly,later his father said it's trash and he needs to work more,he tried again,barely any difference. Checking and checking the clock time and time again,he counted the minutes which soon turned into hours. A good pass time to think of other things. Sure a violin couldn't be a guitar but it surely could distract and/or inspire.
Closing his eyes,he thought of himself up on a stage and pouring his heart out using the strings on the guitar,the waves absolutely obliterating everything. Either way,if people close their eyes while playing the violin,they must just be concentrating or just feeling the music,right?
One hour turned into two and two turned into three. He ofcourse couldn't stop checking the time and this Lydia had noticed and pointed out. He ofcourse blamed it on not remembering the time he just checked as he was concentrating so hard but she didn't believe any of that. Still,didn't question anything.
After many hours and only a few breaks,he was finally let off for the day and got sent to his room. There,he took that time to journal some ideas he had came up with. Smiling to himself as he jotted down lyric ideas,song names,and just a tad about his day (not even enough to fill a whole page).
Just then,he heard footsteps heading towards his door. Not wasting even a moment of time,he hides his diary and makes it seem as if he was changing out the song to listen to. Lydia, surprisingly enough,entered his room. Asking about him.
"The usual" he said,as he said countless times before. Again and again.
"Right.." her voice was covered with a layer of salt but neither did anything about it. She went on to tell him about a "hip new violin case" that their father said he'd like Sebastian to go get. Ofcourse,not believing it,he went to his father himself and it was actually true! Getting himself ready,he went to the shop he was told to go without many further questions and just enough money to buy the so-called violin case. He was specifically told not to use it on anything else.
On the way,he kept an eye out for anything he could use for the model of the town he had but nothing except wrappers,an oversized pen cap,and a mush which resembled a lollipop if it became jelly. Dissapointed he got to the shop and neither at the musical instrument isle not the new item isle were there any "new hip violin cases" that Lydia described nor the proffesional description by his father. He was sure he must've just missed it and so he went over the store again,checking those isles he didn't even know existed. Still nothing. Not wanting to give into dependency,he circled laps around the store a few times before giving in and asking the first staff he found. No luck,as the worker didn't even know what stock they had. The second was no use either! The third on their break. And just as a holy grail,a store worker who operated stock managed to pull up a digital copy of everything on a screen and there came the magical words:
"It doesn't exist,kid"
"WHAT?! What do you mea-" He was taken aback by the volume of his own voice so he quickly repeated in a very more calm tone,acting like whatever he said before didnt happen. "Are you quite sure? I've been sent for it. Maybe it's under a different name or you possibly miss categorised it?"
"Kid,I don't know what it is with you and this violin case but it doesn't exist,atleast not in this store. Hey,how about you go round the corner and maybe ask them? There's a good shop of musical instruments and I'm sure you'll find some case for whatever you're searching for."
Without even saying thank you, Sebastian hurried to the second store as fast as he could and left behind what could only be described as a trial of dust and flames off him. Yet,not even there was any hint of that damn violin case. But he did see something far way interesting: A large guitar with fancy metal bands covering it from top to bottom,even signed by two of them! It was near his money amount but not quite. Either way,what would Gustav think if he brought a guitar instead of a violin case? He'd destroy it definetely.
Slightly worried,he started heading home and thinking of possible reasons and excuses as to why he came home empty handed and started worrying a tad. Hitting him like a stone, "I'll just tell the truth!" And his worries basically dissapeared and he walked home with confidence. Upon opening the door,there was no one there. He walked a bit more inside,still no-one. He assumed they must have left while he was out so he just left the money on a nearby table and headed to his room.
What awaited him left him more shocked than if he was struck by lightning twice
"Hello Sebastian," His father was sitting on his bed, Sebastian's diary in hand,with Lydia nexto him looking at the window and checking the squeak.
"I knew that I wasn't hearing things in the middle of the nights for no reason. Makes much more sense now." Her hands opened it then closed it again,looking down outside the window too.
Sebastian just froze there,his heart in his mouth and stomach in a knot. He felt chills when playing guitar with Ches but that was good chills,this chill he felt run through his body was not like any other. Fingers tensed up,chest sank,hair on his arms stood up,blood ran cold,eyes glared in terror all the while he was frozen in place.
His brain yelled all sort of things to actually get moving. To run away,to go back where he came from,back out the door,grab the money on the way,never come back.
But his body wouldn't. Move.
"Oh Sebastian,you never though you'd keep this secret forever? How silly of you." His father smiled. It wasn't a nice smile. He made it seem nice and to others it would've looked nice but this was one of the most bone chilling parts rather than pure anger from him. He didn't know what to expect and if it even was something which wasn't anger,he wouldn't know how to react as it's not something which he dealt with all that much with before in his father or Lydia.
