A Sunset to Cherish

Summary:

If he had the time, Devzik would always watch the sunset before dinner. Sebastian knowing this about him meant that he was always on the hunt for a more comfortable way for him to do so. To his surprise he'd discovered one of Hogwarts secrets that the other hadn't found yet. It so happened to be just the place he was looking for and was excited to show his friend.

Notes:

This takes place the evening before the morning they get caught, in I Hope This Helps.

Work Text:

The library was fuller then usual, the ground floor was packed with 5th years studying for their O.W.Ls and the first floor had mostly 7th years studying for their N.E.W.Ts, Devzik was pleased he didn't need to be doing anything of the sort. He found a book on potions he hadn't yet read and found a quite, secluded corner to read it in, something he never got to do often enough it seemed. This tranquility was only achieved due to Sebastian receiving detention. To Devzik's surprise, he'd gone off alone, to do something he shouldn't have and thus was forced to sit out his punishment without company. Once he finished the page he was on, he stretched his arms above his head and heaved a heavy sigh, before taking a watch out of his vest pocket. It was three hours till dinner, meaning that Sebastian would be getting out of detention soon. Just as that thought passed though his mind, Scribner peeked around the bookcase that hid him in the corner, with a relieved smile.

"Ah, I knew you'd be over here my dear. You have a letter."

He took the letter from her outstretched hand with a smile of his own. "Thank you, Ma'am. I do hope this wasn't a bother to deliver."

"Oh no, no, no, dear. Not a bother at all." With that, she turned and presumably went back to her desk.

The handwriting on the envelope was easily recognizable to Devzik, causing a slight smile to creep across his lips. 'Sebastian must have gotten out early' he thought to himself, not being surprised in the slightest. The Potions book was long forgotten as he opened the letter. The contents of which were vague, that being unusual for the boy, only reading, "Meet me on the Viaduct Bridge". He had to think about which bridge that was, needing to take out his map to refresh his memory. He'd usually use the bridges by Potions or D.A.D.A to get to that side of the castle, so when he got there, he barely recognized it. Thankfully it was deserted but he was confused as to why Sebastian wasn't there yet.

While he walked over towards the connecting courtyard, he heard metal scraping against itself from behind him. Sebastian had climbed out from a trap door within the bridge, now standing behind Devzik. As he turned around to find the source of the scraping sound he slightly jumped when he saw him, making them both laugh.

"What's got you so wound, Dev?" The way his tone dropped when he'd address him always made Devzik run hotter then usual, the tension having grown thicker with every passing day since they kissed.

However, their relationship wasn't solidified yet, neither wanting to move things forward without first knowing if their feelings rang true for each other and weren't clouded by the trauma that had brought them together in their 5th year. Them having grown so close so quickly without either realizing it till they departed for the summer.

"Well, your letter was extremely out of character. I also haven't used this bridge since the start of last year, so naturally I'm a bit on edge."

"That explains why you never told me about this trap door then." Sebastian took a step back and Devzik heard the same metal scraping sound as before.

Walking over to the other, he saw a circular trap door. "That's awfully unsafe."

"I believe it only opens to those who figure out how to open it. It's painfully easy once you know what you're doing."

A few other students could be heard making their way to the bridge from the connecting courtyard while Devzik looked down to where the door lead.

"Now, I'd like this place to be kept a secret, so, ladies first." Sebastian's smirk was heard as he spoke.

"Ha, ha." He jumped into the trap door, to the surprise of Sebastian.

  "You know there's a ladder."

  "You know I don't care."

Sebastian chuckled. Devzik's lack of care for himself, to the point that he'd break a bone, was almost admirable to him. Knowing that it was how he truly was made it always a treat when he saw it in action. As he descended the ladder he heard a soft gasp, the door sliding closed once he reached the bottom.

Devzik peaked his head out from one of the nooks that lined the walkway they both found themselves in. "This is wonderful. How'd you find it?"

"That, my friend, is how I got detention." He leaned against the archway that was closest to Devzik. "Imelda told me about it, well that's a lie, she was talking about it with someone else and I was listening in on her. The person she told hadn't believed her but I can't understand why, Hogwarts is full of things like this. Anyway. I checked it out and found that the pillars on each corner of the bridge needed to be turned and lit in a specific way."

"How does any of that, connect to detention?"

Sebastian waved a dismissive hand at him. "I'm getting there. So, once I figured that out it was very easy. Sadly, as I was lighting one of the pillars, I caught a Ravenclaws robe in the cross fire and she turned me into Hecat."

Devzik cracked a smile. "There it is."

"Oh, hush." The smile he had betrayed him.

The sun had started to set and Devzik was completely engulphed within the view. He was facing the opening he stood in front of within the nook he was still in, speaking softly almost as if he was talking to himself. "I really do appreciate you sharing this with me. It's much better then sitting on my broom in the middle of the lake to watch the sunset."

He couldn't see how the other was looking at him, admiring every part; the way his features softened at the sight of him enjoying something as simple as how orange the sky would turn during this time of day or how the light bouncing off his eyes would make his heart skip, as he slowly looked back at him momentarily before going back to looking at the view.

Something inside Sebastian ached, so he figured it was better now, then later. "Can we talk?"

Devzik turned towards him, then left the nook to lean against the adjacent part of the archway. "Sure, what's on your mind?"

"You." There was a hint of exasperation within his voice as he spoke. "There isn't a moment in the day that you, aren't on my mind."

His words were like a kick to the chest, although somehow in a good way, they rendered Devzik speechless. The cold November weather had nipped at his skin but he turned even redder as the words danced around in his head.

"Oh, Merlin, that was a bit forward wasn't it." Panic creeped into his voice and features as he looked over at the utter shock on the others face.

Devzik's heart pounded in his chest, he wasn't expecting the confession but at the same time felt as though an immense weight was lifted off his mind. The boy before him had become an important life line for him recently and the year before Devzik had been the same for him. However, this past week he'd been extremely distant, having not been meeting after classes they shared and even missing his last Quidditch practice. So he assumed he'd made up his mind, choosing not to move things further but instead take a step back. He'd never been so relieved to be wrong.

While Devzik was frozen in shock, Sebastian pushed himself off the wall and started towards the ladder, mumbling to himself on how he shouldn't have said anything and that he was sorry. Watching him go to leave made Devzik practically yell for him to wait. So Sebastian halted then slowly turned around to see him walking up to him with purpose in his eyes and before he knew it, he had ahold of his tie to pull him in for a kiss. It was clumsy at first, them having almost knocked their teeth together, but they quickly recovered. Sebastian slipped his hands into Devzik's robe to pull him closer, receiving a relieved sigh. Once they broke apart a comfortable silence settled between them, only being broken when a female student was heard laughing, there seemingly being a group forming above them.

While Sebastian was still holding him close, Devzik wiggled his pocket watch out of his vest pocket, smirking when he saw that he was right about the time. "It's almost dinner. We should probably get going."

Sebastian looked at the watch with amazement. "Well isn't that a nifty little thing. I could really use one of those."

"Really? You always seem so capable with your time."

"Upsettingly I've been almost late to all my classes this year so far. Time seems to be flying by as of recently."

Devzik cupped the watch closed and took the chain out of his pocket. "Then here."

Sebastian took it without thinking but then remembered his manners. "Are you sure?"

"Positive. I can simply ask my father to make me a new one."

He examined it before placing it into his own vest pocket, seeing a simple serpent engraved on the front. Devzik had walked up to the opening closest to them and conjured his broom, stepping up onto the sill and mounting it.

"Come on, we should get going." He jumped down from the sill, now flying outside the bridge.

Sebastian made a worried expression as he walked over to the other while tucking his tie neatly back into his vest, receiving a chuckle in response.

Devzik reassured him as he stepped up onto the sill. "I wont be as reckless as last time, I'll even give you the seat." He then scooted forward and moved his robe so Sebastian could sit behind him.

"I'm only doing this because I can't leave through the way we came." He mounted the broom reluctantly and wrapped his arms around Devzik's waist.

"Whatever makes you feel better, Seb."
