Like Real People Do

Summary:

How does a human go through the logistics of kissing their bony skeleton partner? (who in fact has no lips)

Work Text:

Kissing him was like making out with a plaster wall. Not because your partner was unenthusiastic of course, but rather only realizing then how different it’d be kissing a skeleton compared to, well, human partners. With your first date of stargazing, you’d work up the courage for a kiss goodnight, hoping for some big charismatic move to sweep the skeleton off of his feet. Though, the most intimate thing shared in that kiss was the awkward clattering of teeth and bodies; coming together such as how a child would clash two dolls together, an imitation of intimacy. But the true love in that moment came right when you’d push yourself from the skeleton, awkwardness of a long pause blooming into rambunctious laughter.

“Man, that was horrible wasn’t it” you chuckled wiping tears from your flushed face. The laughter and embarrassment did not do well with your complexion. As hot as your face was becoming, you knew the nightlight couldn’t have hidden your red face. God, weren’t you a dumpster fire of emotions tonight. And yet dying down from laughter, Sans looked at you with the same admiration he’d worn through the whole night. The same warm smile that encouraged you through the mishaps of your own inexperience.

He’d respond, “well, it was a bit sloppy” rubbing off the excess slobber on his face. Admittedly causing you to look away a deeper shade of red. The patches of grass around you quickly became much more interesting than the sight of a damp sleeve jackets and feelings of shame. You’d hear another soft chuckle from your partner as a cool bony hand met with your cheek; the surprise of bone meeting your skin causing you to shiver slightly. “cmon, it wasn’t the worst kiss i’ve ever had” he’d offer, guiding your face to meet his own, his eyes glistening like he discovered the sunlight again, “a guy once chipped his tooth trying to smooch this handsome face– spent the rest of the night trying to glue it back on”

It was useless to try and resist the laughter that came out of you, melting into San’s touch and words of comfort. You’d inch closer to the skeleton, wrapping an arm or two around him as you’d respond, “oh, now that's terrible”

“right? A sticky situation if you’re asking me”

“Sans…” you snickered, rolling your eyes at the blatant pun. To which he shrugged with a lighthearted smile, “we just need some practice, you know?” he’d bring his hand downward to hold onto your chin, guiding you once more to tilt your head to the side; leaning in to close the gap between the both of you. While it was really just a quick bump of teeth and lips, of all things, this truly felt like a kiss.

“There we go” he’d mutter, dropping his hands to lay upon your body, touching forehead to forehead. You’d chuckle softly, closing your eyes to focus on the hums of life around you. The slowing beats of your rapid heart, the warmth of love that came from sans, the rustling of the land around you, breathing and living the same as you. All making you realize this never had to be perfect; whatever this is going to become between you and Sans. In this time now you’re lovers, with all the time in the world; to laugh, to kiss, to love.
