Jaune's house was just large enough for him so that night the four found themselves all clustered on the floor next to the fireplace trying to get some sleep.
Two hours later Yang could hear Weiss' and Ruby's soft snores. Yang turned towards Blake when she realized she couldn't hear Blake's snores.
Blake's eyes were open and looking at her. Blake reached out a hand to hold her face.
Yang felt her body light up at this simple touch.
"Can't sleep?" Blake whispered.
"Look who's talking," Yang replied softly.
Blake silently moved to get up and pulled on Yang's hand to follow her. Yang felt she would follow this woman to the ends of Remnant and considering where they were it was easy to imagine.
The couple headed outside. The Ever After was dark, lit by thousands of blinking fireflies. Or whatever firefly alternative existed in the Ever After, Yang thought.
The two sat down on Jaune's front step and Yang was quick to swing her arm around Blake's waist and pull her closer. Blake scooted closer and took Yang's prosthetic hand in hers.
They settled into a comfortable silence as they enjoyed the stillness of the night and each other's presence.
Yang squeezed Blake's hand. "Okay, I'm in love with you and you love me..." Yang looked at Blake for confirmation.
"Yes, Yang, I love you," Blake said in mild amusement.
"Right. Great, that's great."
"So great," Blake teased.
"Uh... so what does all that mean? What does it make us?"
"What do you want it to mean?" Blake asked.
Yang looked down at her lap. "You couldn't just give me an easy answer could you?"
"Hey, look at me,” Blake said as she squeezed Yang’s hand.
Yang looked at Blake to see that same loving expression she saw on the bridge.
"I guess I want it to mean... that we're dating and that we're girlfriends?" Yang said nervously.
“Yang, I want it to mean that too."
"Oh! Cool. We're girlfriends. Cool cool cool."
Blake laughed. "Cool."
Yang groaned as her face flushed with embarrassment. "I used to be cool, until I met you."
"I still think you're cool, at least when you're not being a lovable dork."
"'Really good brain'," Yang mumbled, "and then the cat ears.'' She groaned again.
Blake laughed and kissed the side of Yang’s head. "I love you and all your dorkiness and inability to flirt."
Yang's body warmed. "I... I never thought I'd hear you say those words."
Blake's ears twitched in question. "Why?"
Yang had to look away. "I guess I always thought you weren't interested and then I knew you needed time after Adam and honestly I wasn't sure if I was worthy of you." Yang looked back up at Blake. “I’ve loved you for a long time now, but I think I can be who you need now."
Blake held Yang's face. "And what do you need, Yang?"
"Just you."
"Oh, is that all?"
"Okay, maybe I also need Ruby to be happy and for us to save the world."
Blake nodded. "Not to ruin the mood, but I'm worried about Ruby. She didn't even touch Crescent Rose."
“Yeah, I noticed that. I don't know how to reach her. I worry she's going to do something stupid."
"Like you?" Blake teased.
Yang winced. "Yeah, like me."
"We'll continue to keep an eye on her and when she's ready we'll be there for her.''
Yang nodded and yawned.
"Are you finally ready to get some sleep?"
"You say that like you weren't awake too."
"I was awake because I knew you were."
"Oh." Yang blushed. "I couldn’t sleep because I didn’t want this day to end. I still don’t."
"Yang, how can we have a future if this day doesn't end? How can we both keep taking the next step?"
Yang smiled dopily. "You might have a point there. In that case, I guess I could sleep."
"Come on, Yang." Blake pulled her up to standing and Yang took advantage of their proximity to kiss her girlfriend.
Yang pulled back, grinning like the lovesick dork she was, "I love you, Blake."
"I love you too, Yang," Blake said with that look that turned her body on fire in the very best way.
Yang blushed. Yeah, today was amazing, but who knew what tomorrow would bring. And as Yang finally fell asleep next to Blake, her dreams gave her a hundred glorious possibilities.
