The (Bald) Tree at Windrise

Summary:

Have you wondered why are there so few anemo leaves on the giant oak at Windrise whenever Dr Edith's commission appears?

Notes:

This came to mind whilst doing my Monstadt commissions :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a pleasant day at Mondstadt, the sun was peeking out from between the clouds, the songs of birds can be heard drifting in the wind–

“I believe that you have had enough to drink,” Diluc stood near the doors to the tavern as he looked towards the bard drunkenly performing to the few patrons who remained, those who do not have a need to start their work early in the day.

“Why, is that Master Diluc I see?” greeted Venti cheerfully from the center of his stage, “How are you doing on such a fine day, a glass of wine a day will keep those frowns at bay~”

“I have received complaints from the knights about someone making a ruckus in the early hours of the morn,” he said while sweeping his eyes across the now quiet bar, the silence only broken by the soft shuffling of the regulars as they realized the cause of his visit.

“Unfortunately, I would have to ask you to leave as the tavern closes for an inspection by the knights,” he folded his arms before pausing when he saw what was left behind the bar, “ –and for us to replenish our stock of wine.”

“Aww, would you toss a homeless bard out on the streets with naught to his name~?” His arms wrapped protectively around his harp, even as his overly dramatic expression gave away his actual thoughts.

“Yes.” Lifting an eyebrow, Diluc took a step to the side and narrowed his eyes.

“Out. Now.

“What a heartless man that young master is…” sighed Venti as he slowly made his way out of Monstadt. “All I wanted was some wine to dull the pain and to take my mind off the emptiness.”

He absently rubbed the area over his chest where the gnosis once laid.

“My powers have been taking a lot longer to recover now that it’s gone,” the tips of his hair faintly glowed as he allowed his powers to pull him over to his anchor – the giant oak that Windrise. “Luckily I had the foresight to have the tree collect the ambient anemo—”

His voice drifted off when the sight before him registered in his mind.

My leaves!

“Today is my lucky day!” Edith cradled the anemo-imbued leaves collected by the Traveler carefully in her arms. Happily humming to herself whilst skipping back towards Mondstadt, “I’ll now have more inspiration to continue writing my book.”

“I should take note of the days when the Traveler is back in the city so that I can put up another commission in the Adventurer’s Guild.”

Notes:

I've gotten this particular commission trice in the past week. :') The tree is bald and Venti is sad because he was forced (by me) to go pluck it.
