Work Text:

Shouto should've taken the dinner offer earlier.

He wanted to, but the range of textures and colors on the dining table made his stomach turn. After all, this was his first time eating someone else's home cooked food; it's not something he was accustomed to. A new environment with unfamiliar faces and unfamiliar cooking was far too overstimulating for Shouto, so he gracefully excused himself, stating he had eaten before arriving. Bakugo's mother seemed to understand and told him he was always welcome to dish out some leftovers if he changed his mind. If she was disappointed, it wasn't evident on her face. Instead, she smiled at him, soothing his nerves.

Before he could thank her, Katsuki was already dragging him to his room. They spent the whole evening playing games and watching TV together, until Shouto noticed how late it was getting. Katsuki suggested that Shouto stay over since it was already so dark out. Shouto hesitated before quickly agreeing.

And Shouto should've said something before Katsuki fell asleep, he really should have, but he didn't want to be selfish. So, when his stomach starts to hurt from desperate hunger, he apologizes in advance to the boy lying next to him. Shouto reaches his hand out and lightly taps the exposed muscular back in front of him. The figure shifts a bit, before settling again. Shouto sighs and makes another attempt.

"Katsuki?" He calls gently, so that he wouldn't accidentally wake up Bakugo's parents. He hears a quiet groan, followed by the sound of sheets moving, as the figure seems to turn and face him. The moonlight from the window hit Katsuki's face in a way that made his red eyes glow, and Shouto was so distracted by them, he didn't even notice Katsuki talking to him.

"You know," Katsuki says gruffly, sleepiness still evident in his voice. He reaches his hand up and flicks Shouto's forehead, eliciting a pout from the boy in front of him. "It's rude to ignore someone when they ask you a question."

"Sorry," Shouto mumbles quietly. A moment passes where he finds himself staring at the details of Katsuki's face. He clears his throat before looking away, suddenly nervous under the gaze of bright red eyes.

"I'm hungry," Shouto mumbles. There is a beat of silence that follows, making Shouto glance back at Katsuki. The blond's eyes are closed again and Shouto huffs in frustration. He reaches his hand out to poke Katsuki's nose gently. "Katsuki?"

"If you're hungry, there's leftovers in the fridge. Just go out there and warm it up; my mom won't care."

Shouto frowns as he pulls his hand back from Katsuki's face. He turns in bed, making his body face the empty wall instead of the boy next to him. A sigh falls past his lips and he begins to wring his hands anxiously. His stomach nips lightly at him, reminding him that he cannot sleep well on an empty stomach. Ignoring the ache of his abdomen, Shouto closes his eyes in hopes to fall asleep, so that he could wake up and head home quickly for breakfast. Despite his attempts, the emptiness at the pit of his stomach nags at him, forcing his eyes open again. He shifts in bed again to face Katsuki, hoping his restlessness would alert the other boy. Almost as if he was cued, Katsuki sighs heavily and opens his eyes again.

"I thought you were hungry?" He questions.

"Yes, but, I was wondering…" Shouto starts, but pauses again. He bites his lip, beginning to think over his request. Katsuki must've noticed his apprehension because Shouto feels a tap on his nose, causing him to focus on the blond.

"You're doing that thing again," Katsuki gently scolds. He tucks hair behind Shouto's ear, and the boy looks as if he has forgotten how to breathe properly. "Just tell me what it is. What do you want?"

"Could you make me some cold soba? Please?" He asks quietly. It gets very quiet and Shouto closes his eyes, suddenly feeling very small. He curls his legs closer to his chest as if to protect himself from Katsuki's possible answer. The bed creaks and Shouto hesitantly opens his eyes, watching as the blond moves to the bedroom door.

"Are you coming or not?" Katsuki asks, holding his hand out for Shouto to take. Shouto lets out a small squeak-like noise as he scrambles to take the boy's hand and follow him out to the kitchen. He's sure to walk with light feet in an effort to be courteous towards the sleeping adults in the house, unlike Katsuki who walked on the kitchen tiles with heavy feet. Shouto finds himself pushing his body to sit up on the countertop and watching the blond move from cabinet to cabinet with various ingredients in his arms.

"Got me up at two in the fucking morning for some cold noodles," Katsuki grumbles as he heats up the pot.

"Sorry," Shouto says sheepishly, looking away from the blond. He'd forgotten exactly how late it actually is.

"What for? I'm your boyfriend, aren't I?" Katsuki says, dismissing any anxious thoughts creeping up in Shouto's mind. Instead, he just smiles at his legs, letting his feet swing gently in front of him. He patiently waits for Katsuki to finish cooking and set the dish onto the small, round dining table in the corner of the kitchen. Shouto reaches his arms out to the blond, who rolls his eyes and moves to pick the other off the counter.

"Spoiled brat," Katsuki whispers. Shouto feels as Katsuki places him down in a chair at the table and offers a small smile when the blond takes the seat next to him. Shouto leans over to place a couple kisses on Katsuki's cheek and a peck on the lips to show his gratitude. The blond hums in acknowledgement as he rests his head on his arm, and just as Shouto begins to eat, he sees as his boyfriend's eyes flutter shut.

Shouto doesn't take long to finish eating and cleaning up the used dishes. He ruffles Katsuki's hair, effectively waking up the light sleeper who tiredly groans. Shouto takes his hand and pulls him along back to the bedroom, where he situates both of them under the covers. He sighs in content, his own arm covering Katsuki's, which lies firmly around his waist.

"Shou?" Katsuki says lowly, his breath tickling Shouto's ear. He only hums in response.

"This is a one time thing, yeah?"

And Shouto lets out a quiet breath, a smile ghosting over his lips. He knows, that Katsuki knows, that this will not be the last time. But, he agrees anyway.

"Yeah, promise."
