Yumi sees everyone return to the house after the day out they had with Nick. He’d only slept about two hours, so he knows he wouldn’t be able to keep up the persona on vlog for more than twenty minutes. He didn’t regret not going out until he saw what everyone else got.
He gapes at the fact that Tanner was holding a MacBook Pro, and he feels a sting of rejection, because it’s patently obvious Nick never thought of him once. It’s not like he expected anything, not really, but it feels unfair when everyone else in the house got to benefit from Nick’s generosity.
Yumi covers up his disappointment with a quick smile, watching as Nick climbs the stairs with his camera. He couldn’t be seen moping on camera; everyone would just give him shit for it. Yumi shudders at the thought of having yet another meme of his face peppering the replies of his tweets.
“I really, really wanted to get you something,” Nick frowns, and Yumi feels a tug on his heartstrings. He knows that the point of the vlog was to buy the ones who came with him things, so obviously, it couldn’t be expected that he could expect anything.
“It’s okay, buddy, you didn’t have to get me anything,” Yumi replies, smoothing over the worry lines in Nick’s face. He smiles briefly for the camera, and lets Nick crowd closer to him.
“Can you give me a hug?” Yumi continues, a playful smile crossing his face. It’s silly, but the idea of getting a Nick hug kind of erases the feeling of being left out from the day out. Nick agrees readily and wraps him up in his strong arms.
Nick presses his face into Yumi’s shoulder, and Yumi has to push down the urge to tighten his arms more. He barely disentangles himself from Nick’s embrace when the camera turns to Tanner, who’s being ridiculous as usual.
Yumi feels ridiculous himself, tripping over his choice of words in his inner monologue of calling Nick’s arms strong. At the very least, it’s relieving to know that he’s no longer the subject of Nick’s vlog. He knows he’s too tired to keep the facade up in front of hundreds of thousands of people.
The final minute of the vlog is them arguing over the practicality of Tanner getting a laptop when he already had an expensive PC, and Yumi rolls his eyes when Nick lowers the camera for the last time.
“If you really loved me, you would’ve gotten me something expensive,” Yumi teases as Nick fiddles with the settings of the camera.
“What? Is my hug not enough for you?” Nick replies, faux-shock painting his features. Yumi shoves at his shoulder with a snort.
“Dunno, maybe I need two to make up for the clear favoritism against me,” Yumi pouts and Nick’s eyes crinkles in the corners with his smile the way Yumi likes.
“I think I can arrange that,” Nick sets the camera down and wraps himself around Yumi. This time, Nick’s face angles further up to press into Yumi’s neck. Yumi’s breath catches in his throat as he feels the warmth of Nick’s cheek against him.
“That better?” Nick asks as he pulls back, and Yumi forces himself not to chase the comfort of being entwined with Nick.
“Definitely,” Yumi swallows around nothing as he nervously scrubs at the back of his neck with a hand. What the fuck is up with his reaction? It’s just Nick.
“You alright, man? You seem a bit off,” Nick’s eyes scan Yumi’s face, and Yumi fights off the urge to blush.
“Lack of sleep, probably,” Yumi exaggerates a yawn in response. He doesn’t need Nick thinking anything more of the interaction.
“I’m worried about you; you haven’t been sleeping well,” Nick’s face is creased in worry again, and it takes all Yumi has not to reach out and brush his thumb against Nick’s cheek.
“Shitty schedule,” Yumi offers as an explanation as he avoids Nick’s serious gaze. The idea that Nick cares so much does weird things to his stomach, and he’d kind of like to retreat to his room now. Under his comforter, everything seems a bit safer and less confusing.
“I know I sleep better when someone else is in the room,” Nick says, and Yumi looks back up to meet Nick’s eyes.
“Are you offering to sleep with me, Softwilly?” Yumi cracks and Nick blushes a shade of deep cherry.
“No, you fuck, I’m just saying I feel like I can feel safe when someone else is in the darkness with me,” Nick explains, rubbing awkwardly at his arm. Yumi realizes this is something Nick probably doesn’t share with a lot of people, and he should stop being a dickhead about it.
“I guess I wouldn’t mind if you used my computer while I slept,” Yumi mumbles as he feels sleep tugging at his eyelids.
“Yeah? I don’t want to bother you…” Nick trails off, but Yumi is already turning around to head back to his room.
Nick follows dutifully, and Yumi throws open the door to his room. His computer’s fan spins in the silence, and it’s a calming white noise as Yumi crawls back into his unmade bed.
“Password is iluvsiege, all lowercase,” Yumi yawns as he pulls his pants off. Nick averts his gaze which is silly when on camera, they will film each other’s asses. It’s appreciated, though, and Nick sinks into Yumi’s office chair.
“Your password is as good as a middle school boy’s first laptop password,” Nick scoffs as he types it in.
“Well, I’m not keeping fucking state secrets on there, am I?” Yumi snorts as he rolls onto his side to watch Nick plug the footage from the vlog into his computer.
“Still, your sense of cybersecurity is shit,” Nick comments as he pulls up the editing program. Yumi ignores the quip as he pulls the comforter over his shoulder.
“Just don’t look at my browser history while I sleep,” Yumi mumbles as he cradles his pillow in his arms.
“I don’t wanna see what freak shit you’re into, don’t worry,” Nick laughs as he grabs Yumi’s headphones.
“Good,” Yumi retorts as he drifts off. Maybe Nick was onto something with having someone else in the room while you sleep.
He doesn’t dream. He simply rests. He’s never felt so safe.
It’s nice.

Yumi wakes up only a few short hours later. He notices Nick still making headway into his edit as he rearranges clips. It’s kind of cute to see him in full concentration, tongue poking out as he scans the screen.
The idea that Nick is cute sits heavily in Yumi’s chest, and he rakes a hand through his hair to ignore it. He knows he has yet to sleep enough. Tiredness pounds behind his eyes like the start of a migraine, and he rubs irritably at his face.
“Oh, baby, you’re up,” Nick spins around in the chair and Yumi tries to act like he hasn’t been staring.
“Wish I weren’t,” Yumi grumbles, and he dramatically flops back down against his mattress. He’s managed to tangle his legs all in his sheets, and he kicks at them to be freed of their constraints.
“Someone’s grumpy,” Nick grins as he slides the headphones around his neck. Yumi huffs in response and slides back down into his cocoon of blankets.
“I could go for a nap, too,” Nick covers his mouth as he yawns and Yumi glances at him in confusion.
“You’re leaving?” Yumi tries to force the worry out of his voice, but he thinks he might’ve failed. Nick is obviously allowed to do whatever he wants, but Yumi doesn’t want to lose the comfort of Nick being in the room as he sleeps.
“No, dumbass, there’s a bed in here, isn’t there?” Nick scoffs as he clicks around on the program he was working on and closes it. He places the headphones gently on Yumi’s desk and stands up.
“Oh, uh, I was kinda hoping to sleep more,” Yumi blushes, feeling bad he’s denying Nick a nap after he’s already been kind enough to stay.
Nick stares at him like he’s grown a second head. He strides wordlessly over to the bed and climbs over Yumi to curl against the wall.
It happens so quickly that Yumi barely has time to react to the fact there’s a solid warmth at his back.
“Works for me,” Nick mumbles into Yumi’s shoulder, and Yumi feels himself grinning against his will.
Nick slings an arm around Yumi’s waist, and Yumi lets the weight anchor him. He’s not really ever the little spoon, and he fears he might like it more than he would’ve originally thought.
“Hey, turn your brain off. I can hear you thinking from all the way over here,” Nick says behind him, and Yumi slots himself against Nick in response.
“Promise it won’t be weird between us when we wake up?” Yumi whispers as Nick tightens his arm around his waist.
Nick kisses Yumi’s shoulder, “Not weird, just different.”
Yumi can work with different.
