Chapter 1: is there a space somewhere in your world that was always for me?

Chapter Text

karen ||

it was funny, she felt, to be thinking of graham that way. was there even a word to describe what 'that way' was? he had always been just graham, the graham who went to movies with her, even though they had completely opposite film tastes (she was more of the horror/slasher viewer, whereas graham was more one for the comedies, but he wouldn't mind a casual romance every once in a while) and the graham who she painstakingly taught keys to for days on end. spoiler. he's shit. but it was cute, watching him try so hard. god. graham? cute? it was a new concept.

graham had always been her friend, and just her friend, for years. so why were things different now? awkward, even. the tension and energy between them was palpable at this point. just waiting for one of them to make a move.

graham was sitting outside, wearing a tattered denim jacket whilst holding a seemingly empty beer can. when she said tattered, she meant it. like strips of the material were falling as he walked, mud stains encircled his sleeves and it was way too big for him. was it weird that it only made him cuter? yes, it was weird, she thought. god. stupid. he spotted her walking out in her black, sheer, unbuttoned blouse, carelessly thrown over a lacy white crop shirt and dark blue flares, and waved.

"hey karen." he smiled, as she walked over to him. "one sec, i need to show you something"

he rummaged through his pockets quickly, random items falling array. a lighter and some cigarettes, a pen and notebook, shaded sunglasses.

"found them! two tickets to the movie theatre. how would you feel about seeing monty python and the holy grail?"

"i'd hate it." karen responded dryly. "what time should i be ready for?"

graham grinned widely, holding back a laugh.

"three. ill drive us down"
