Work Text:
Atsushi is afraid of the games that Dazai wants to play during their lunch break. He once suggested two truths and a lie, heard Dazai’s lines, and was wrecked with anxiety. Then they played a different game in which Dazai trauma dumped!
Dazai: Two truths and a lie!
Atsushi: Okay, it can’t be that bad!
Dazai: 1. My best friend died in my arms, 2. I made out with a man on accident, 3. I’ve killed my mentor
Atsushi: Your best friend died in your arms? Are you okay?
Dazai: That wasn’t the lie
Atsushi: But, are you okay?
Dazai: No comment. Your turn!
Atsushi: Dazai, if you need to talk-
Dazai: It’s your turn Atsushi!
Atsushi: okay, ummm, 1. I have a stuffed tiger at home, 2. I eat rice for dinner every night, 3. I lost the key to our office
Dazai: Hhmmm…3 is the lie
Atsushi: How’d you know? I told Kunikida that this morning!
Dazai: I know you gave it away. It’s not lost…in fact I have it now
Atsushi: What-
Dazai: My turn! 1. I was a mafia executive, 2. I’m older than Chuuya, 3. Chuuya was the guy I ‘accidentally’ made out with!
Atsushi: 1? I know you were in the mafia, but I don’t imagine you were very high up..
Dazai: Nope!
Atsushi’s eyes go wide. He takes a sharp inhale before speaking.
Atsushi: Let’s play a different game; This one is too hard
Dazai: Alright, let’s play ‘There once was a skunk’
Atsushi: What?
Dazai: I’ll start off with ‘There once was a skunk’ and you follow the story. You’d start your sentence with ‘fortunately’, and I’d say ‘unfortunately’ afterwards. Let’s play!
Atsushi: Huh?
Dazai: There once was a skunk that became a maid
Atsushi: ..Fortunately..they liked cleaning?
Dazai: Unfortunately, they didn’t have employers
Atsushi: ..what do I say now?
Dazai: You keep going with ‘fortunately’
Atsushi: ..uh..Fortunately, the skunk had a big fancy house
Dazai: Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford the taxes on it
Atsushi: Fortunately, they won the lottery
Dazai: Unfortunately, the skunk lost all its money while gambling
Atsushi: Fortunately, they got it all back through gambling
Dazai: Unfortunately, he was sucked into a scheme with the mafia
Atsushi: Fortunately, they made a friend in the mafia?
Dazai: Unfortunately, the friend died in front of him
Atsushi: Fortunately, the skunk was going to hold a funeral for the friend
Dazai: Unfortunately, the skunk couldn’t hold a funeral for the friend, because living in the mafia doesn’t work like that
Atsushi: Fortunately, he was able to make some new friends and get a new job
Dazai: Unfortunately, the skunk wasn’t able to get rid of his displeasing thoughts
Atsushi: Fortunately, the skunk was able to play games with his friends
Dazai: Unfortunately, his friends kept changing the games
Atsushi: Dazai, was that story…what happened to you?
Dazai: I wasn’t a maid, Atsushi
Atsushi: But were you pulled into the mafia and watched your friend die?
Dazai: …Let’s play another game Atsushi, I’m getting tired of this one
Atsushi: Dazai, you can talk about it with-
Dazai: What about ‘would you rather?’
Atsushi: Dazai, I’m serious
Dazai: Ah, would you look at the time Atsushi? It’s time for us to go back!
Atsushi: Dazai?
Dazai had already started walking back to the office.
