Chapter Text
Regulus sat in his hospital bed staring at a wall, he had been doing that for about an hour now. It was one of the few activities he was actually allowed to do. Going for a walk was a no go, and he was only allowed his phone when medical staff wasn’t around. He would read but his parents refused to bring any of his stuff to him from his flat. Regulus would ask his flat mate Evan, however Evan was on holiday with his boyfriend due to it being spring. Regulus had been in the hospital for two days now, and if he were to be honest, it was driving him mad.
Whilst staring at the wall, he had gotten an idea, one he should’ve thought about sooner. Why didn’t he just text his older brother to grab his stuff for him? He reached under his pillow for his phone, unlocking it he made his way to the messaging app. Once he was on his brothers and his messages, he sighed, the last message had been from six months ago, from his brother. Ignoring that he began to type.
Regulus: Hey Sirius, apologies for bothering you but do you think you could go to my flat and pack some of my clothes, books and journals? I’m at the hospital currently therefore i cannot go and grab them myself If not, that's fine.
Sirius didn’t respond, in his defense Regulus had just sent the message.
As if on cue a nurse barged in, red hair pulled into a low ponytail, Lily. She was Regulus’ favorite nurse, probably because they shared a sense of humor. He was quick to shove his phone back under the pillow before he noticed she wasn’t alone. She was wheeling in a dark haired boy with the prettiest eyes Regulus had ever seen, Gods Regulus could get lost in those eyes, there was something about them that just screamed, ‘everything is going to be okay.’ However he was torn from his trance when he heard his name, no, his nickname.
“Reggie..?”
Fuck.
Oh fuck.
He looked up and saw none other than his older brother
Always his older brother.
As he locked eyes with Sirius, he realized. He was screwed. “You suck at answering texts” was all Regulus said before nurse Evans piped in. “Before I ask how you two know each other, Regulus this is your new roommate James, James this is Regulus” She had said. Now, Regulus didn’t know much about Sirius’ highschool experience due to him being sent off to boarding school when he was 13, but one thing he did know was that name.
Regulus watched as the nurse left the room after helping James onto the spare bed.
“Reggie why are you here and why do you have that thing in your nose?” Regulus could hear the concern in his brothers voice as he spoke. As he looked at Sirius he felt as if he was 13 all over again, about to be sent off to boarding school. “As it turns out I can’t control anything in my bloody life, thought I had control over food, now look at me.” Now if you were to ask Regulus the worst sight he’d ever seen, it would be that moment. The moment he watched the light in his brothers eyes be crushed by a wave of sadness and worry. ”Why are you here Sirius?” Regulus asked. It was a stupid question, he knew the answer. It was James, Sirius was here for James because of course he was. Gods Regulus hated James, sure he had just met him, and sure all Regulus could think about were his pretty eyes. But Regulus hated James.
“James was in the middle of a Football game, I was there supporting him of course, and he got, uhm, hurt” Sirius had said, “Not just hurt mate, I shattered my bloody ankle!” James had corrected. Gods even his voice was pretty. This was all so stupid, everything about James was stupid. “I forgot you were here, I’d like to go back to that.” Regulus had said in his usual cold tone. However Regulus could never forget those stupid eyes or his stupid voice. Everything about James was so Stupid. “Can you be nice for 5 minutes, Reggie?” Sirius had asked him before letting out a sigh and checking his phone for the previously mentioned text. “I’ll grab your stuff when I leave. Have’ta grab Prongs’ too.” He informed the younger black, earning a nod from Regulus. “Why didn't you ask mum or dad? You were always the favorite.” Sirius let the semi rude comment slip from his lips. Most wouldn’t see this as rude but it was between the brothers, at the very least it was a sore topic. “Dead to them. I ‘Ruined my skating career by being dramatic’ “ He let out a scoff as he spoke. Yeah Reg, an eating disorder, how could you be so dramatic? How dare. “You have a bloody eating disorder! this isn’t some door slam!” Sirius exclaimed, a bit pissed at his parents, more than usual that is. “I’m aware.” Regulus looked at Sirius, almost with a glare but not quite that yet before looking away. “I’m tired, get out.” he mumbled, pulling the thin hospital sheet over himself. “I’m not here for you? I'm here for James.” Sirius had said, not meaning for it to sound as rude as it did.
“Gee, thanks. now piss off.” Regulus spit out. “It’s fine mate, I need to sleep, or at least try to before my leg decides to hurt worse. Not to mention I want to get as much sleep as possible before surgery next week.” James had said from his side of the room, earning 2 pairs of eyes to look at him. “Fine, fine, I'm off, both of you text me if you need anything.” Sirius had said before leaving the room.
Surgery. James had to get surgery? A million thoughts ran through Regulus’ head at that moment. Surgery was dangerous, Surgery could mean death. No, no no no, Regulus couldn't loose those stupid eyes, even if he would only see those stupid eyes for a month at most. He could not loose them, especially not to death.
Regulus gathered himself up in a few breaths, glancing over at james. Oh he was screwed. Regulus let his eyes close, falling asleep with the freshest image in his mind being none other than James Potter.
