He kicked his boot hard into her side, and she rolled over in pain. Her head was so, so foggy, and now it hurt to breathe. She couldn’t die like this. She didn’t want to die. But then Joel’s words from a few months back echoed in her head saying “they’ll have way more in mind than that.” She already knew that. But hearing it now, in the back of her mind was not helping her situation in the slightest. When David locked her in that cage, he made his intentions quite clear. This… monster wanted way more than the meager amount of supplies she had in her pack. He wanted to break her in a way that she wouldn’t recover from, and she couldn’t let that happen.
She was already down when he grabbed her. He pinned her arms above her head with his hands and his legs and hips around hers. She was held tight to the floor, and she could barely move at all. What was she supposed to do? She was screaming so loud her throat hurt, and she tried to fight him off with any remaining strength she could muster. She spat in his face, but he replied with a sinister smile saying, “I thought you already knew. The fighting is the part I like the most.”
“Don’t be afraid,” he reassured. “There is no fear in love.”
