It was a marvelous and sunny day outside. Yet, Felix and Marcus have been working very inside of their new and huge home since they arrived about a week ago. They were unpacking the very last of the boxes and getting everything sorted out. The two of them bought the home while they were engaged but have not really unpacked much until after they came back from their honeymoon and after they officially said “I do”. So far, they have been enjoying being married. It was something that neither of them thought would happen in their lives but so glad it did.
At the moment, Felix reached into the box that he was unpacking in the living room, he took out an item that he forgot about for some time. It was one that was given to him by a family member that at the moment, he does have a good relationship with. Because of Marcus being a bit older than him (Felix being only 22 years old while Marcus is in his mid to late 30's), it has caused a drift between him and some of his family members back in Australia.
At least, Felix has his longtime and childhood friends and SOME of his family that do accept his marriage and relationship with his husband. Marcus came into the living room to see Felix looking at the item with an unhappy look on his face. The item was a decorative piece that Felix was holding in his hand. But now, it is more of a haunted trinket to him.
“Everything alright there? Need any help?” Marcus asked him. Felix looked at him and gave him a nod.
“I am fine. I am almost done with this box but I also forgot that I have some items from my family that I am not really close to much anymore. Including the one that I am holding in my hand right now. Not sure if I should keep it or not. Do you think that I should get rid of it?” Felix replied.
“I am going to leave that up to you. I mean, if that family member truly has hurt you that badly then I would get rid of it so it makes me not think about them anymore. At the same time, I understand it can be complicated for you to do that. What do you feel when seeing and holding it?” Marcus answered and asked him another question.
“I feel like I was betrayed by the person who gave it to me. I don't feel like I am raging deep down or anything like that but that is how I really feel when seeing this item. I do not want to break it but I just do not feel like I should need or have to keep it in our house either.” Felix described to him. It was truly a nice gift when it was given to him but now, all he can do is think about that person and what they did to him. It is something he does not want to keep thinking about as well.
“Well, if you want to give it to someone, that would be a good idea. Or you could also donate it.” Marcus suggested. Felix looked at the item again and let out a sigh.
“It still amazes me that someone who you are close to can suddenly change in the blink of an eye and turn their back on you. Especially when it comes to your own family.” Felix spoke. Marcus walked over and sat on the floor next to him.
“I know that it may not be my place to say this but it seems that they were not truly there for you in the first place if they can not accept and support your happiness. Maybe at one time, they were but overtime, it may have started to dwindle. It is not your fault, by the way. One of what you have done is your fault for why they are doing this.” Marcus stopped speaking as he suddenly looked at the floor below him.
“It is more of my fault than anything else.” Marcus softly spoke, starting to feel so much guilt. Ever since this happened to Felix, Marcus could truly not help but blame himself for why those family members have been against him. Felix leaned up against Marcus’s body and laid his head on top of his shoulder.
“It is not your fault at all, Marcus. Plus, I am not upset with what you just said because you are right. I am just sorry that you were treated like trash when you met them. Honestly, if they can not accept you and our marriage/relationship, then I do not want them in my life. If they decide to change their ways, maybe I will have them back but they have to show me that they truly mean it. Otherwise, I really want nothing to do with them. I do not need negativity like that in my life.” Felix told him then held one of Marcus’s hands in his.
“All I want is my life with you. No one else as my husband but you.” Felix added. Marcus held Felix’s hand a little tighter in his.
“And I want my life with you in it and as my husband, too.” Marcus said back. Just because some family members from both sides of their families are against them, it does not mean that they are not happy being together. Felix loves Marcus with all of his heart. Regardless of their age difference. Plus, they met on an app when Felix was 19 years old. Since then, Felix and Marcus have felt like they do not want anyone else but each other as romantic partners.
They also know that there are going to be people who are going to be against their marriage. Does not mean that Felix and Marcus have to tolerate it, though. Just means that they are not going to be in their life as much. And that is something that both husbands were fine with. Especially if they are going to be awful to them about it, too. Like a few of them have been. One of Marcus’s family members even tried to have Marcus call off the wedding by trying to start rumors about Felix that were completely untrue.
Mostly trying to say that Felix was cheating on him with multiple men and even said that he had a secret boyfriend on the side but Marcus knew that Felix is not that kind of person. Felix does not like cheaters nor would ever try to be one. Felix told Marcus that he was not exactly innocent but when he is VERY committed to Marcus and has proven that time and time again that is true. Nor that Marcus has ever cheated on Felix, either. Since those rumors, Marcus has distanced himself from those family members as much as he possibly can.
They both are very committed to one another and if they were not, they would not have gotten married or still be together in the first place. Felix made a choice on what he wanted to go with the item.
“I think I am just going to donate it or give it away. I do not need the money but I just want it gone. I know that people are going to tell me to keep it but seriously..it just messes with me too much to have it in the house. I want to start a new life with you. I do not need things in my life that are just going to keep me from doing that.” Felix piped up.
“I agree with you on that.” Marcus told him. Felix moved his head and gave Marcus a kiss on the cheek.
“And I am very excited to be your husband.” Felix also told him. Marcus smiled and lifted up his head to look at Felix as Felix moved his head off of Marcus’s shoulder.
“I am very excited to be yours, too, babe. I truly am. Being with you has made me the happiest man in the world.” Marcus said.
“Me too. I am very happy being with you, hun.” Felix said back. Though, there was still a bit of sadness that Felix was feeling about all of this. Nothing to do exactly with Marcus himself but the whole family situation.
“It just makes me also sad that I am never going to be able to be happy around those family members.” Felix also piped up.
“I know, hun. But think of this this way. It is not like you have to force yourself to be around them if you do not want to be. That is also one of the greatest things about being an adult. You can make the decision about what YOU want to do with your life without people having to make it for you anymore. If you do not want certain people in your life then you do not have to have them in your life anymore.” Marcus told him.
“What is the best thing about being an adult?” Felix asked him.
“To be able to surround yourself with people who make you happy and want what is best for you.” Marcus replied then suddenly gave Felix a hug.
“And being able to have the most amazing husband in the world, too. I love you so much.” Marcus added. Felix placed the item onto the floor beside him and hugged him back.
“I feel the same way about you and love you so much, too.” Felix said to him. Felix was starting to feel better about the situation. Not as a whole but as far as today goes, he was starting to bother with him as much.
“You truly are amazing.” Felix complimented Marcus.
“So are you, babe. So are you.” Marcus said back to him. As Felix was leaning in to give Marcus a kiss on the cheek, Marcus ended up catching Felix’s lips with his. The two lovers spent about a minute on the floor, kissing one another. When they pulled away, Felix looked at the time.
“I am going to finish unpacking this box then I think I am done for the day. We got a lot done within the week. I think after tomorrow, we will be finished.” Felix told him. Marcus nodded in agreement.
“I will go get dinner started while you do that. Be in the kitchen if you need me and if you help, just let me know.” Marcus told him as well. Felix also nodded as well.
“Will do.” Felix spoke back to him. Marcus got off of the floor and headed to the kitchen while Felix finished unpacking what was left inside of the box.
“If this is what my new life is going to be like then I am 100% ready for anything that comes our way. I really am. Marcus is truly the most amazing husband that I could ever ask for. I love that man so much. And if some of my family members do like it, oh well. I am not leaving him. Ever.” Felix thought to himself with a sweet smile on his face, too. Even with it just beginning, it is only just the start of what is yet to come for the husbands.
Too bad that some of their family members are going to miss out on being in Felix and Marcus’s lives. Even so, that is their problem for being horrible towards them for being truly the happiest both of them have ever been and madly in love. Felix and Marcus are going to be together for as long as they can be. Whether their families are going to like it or not.
