Summary
Eddie watches the live holos of Senator Harrington’s speeches about the clones and the Jedi in the lulled silence of his quarters — empty. Not even a funeral. Empty shells of men, with their white armour painted in ways that said I am alive, chanting a language that Eddie barely understood.
I’m still alive, but you are dead. I remember you, so you are eternal. He didn’t need to know their language to understand. He heard the names of the soldiers pass through the small crowd, huddled together with the same faces that shed a thousands different tears: Ace, Buddy, Per, Sev…
(The names went on. He let them wash over his being with an out-of-body sense of self that he imagined Jedi took on when they meditated. As if he wasn’t really there at all. But he let the names soak into his skin, traced the grooves of their armour with his fingertips, tried to make them eternal).
