Sirius' gaze remained focused on the hissing flames, blue eyes alight as the fireplace roared to life. “We’re at war again,” he sighed heavily, his tone bitter. “I’m in no position to spare what little heart I have left on…those sorts of things.”
“Love, you mean?” You shifted beside him, entirely aware of just how close he sat. “You’ve been fighting since you were sixteen. Don’t you think you’ve earned it? Something good?”
He turned to face you, a mournful sort of look ghosting over him. “I don’t,” he said. “I know I don’t.”
