“Good morning, Wally!” Julie is practically glowing as she waves her hand high, scurrying over to her Darling friend with a basket hanging on her arm. “It’s absolutely gorgeous today! I’m so happy!”
Wally doesn’t seem phased by Julie’s over-enthusiasm, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary - not that it wasn’t a pleasant sight to behold.
“What’s got you so thrilled today, Julie?” Wally asks, resting his head in his hand.
“Did you visit Howdy today? Did you?” She asked in delight. “I sure did! And I got you something too!”
Well, that was unexpected. Wally doesn’t usually get gifts - at least, nothing that isn’t from the mail.
“And what could that be?” She’s got his full attention now, fixing his posture.
“Oh, it isn’t anything spectacular, I just wanted to get you something-“ Julie rummaged in her flowery basket, pulling out a simple apple. Just an apple. “I know it’s not much! I was thinking about you today. A lot.”
Her smile burns bright as she hands it to him. Wally feels like he’s about to combust. He almost hesitates, slowly reaching for the fruit in her hand, his skin lingers on her own just a bit too long and he wishes he could savor that moment forever.
“Wally?” She says, tilting her head. “If you don’t want it, that’s okay! I can just-“
“No.” Wally cuts her off.
That’s all he says. Julie’s confused, but with how he’s smiling at her she takes this as him intending on keeping it. How delightful.
“You’re so funny, Wally.” She giggles, turning her heel and frolicking off without another word.
Wally looks down at the fruit Julie had given him. He doesn’t want to look at anything else today.
