Dinos & Other Interesting Factoids

Summary:

There's a new and very pretty boy at school and he happens to be sitting next to Stiles. And Stiles talks when he's nervous. This time it's about dinosaurs.

Notes:

Inspired by the Dinosaur of the day thing on Alexa.

Work Text:

“Did you know that Chriostenotes and Macrophalangia are actually the same things?” Stiles blurted randomly.

Derek, the new kid as well as Stiles’ new lab partner, just looked at him like he was crazy. Which was fair. But in Stiles’ defense, Derek was really pretty and Stiles got talkative when he was nervous, which was most of the time.

“I’m sorry?” Derek asked, which he probably shouldn’t have.

“Um, you know those home Alexa things?” Derek nodded, still confused. “Well, they have this thing called the dinosaur of the day. April second’s dinosaur is the Chriostenotes. All that’s been found of the Chriostenotes is fragmentary. Not long before this other fragmentary remains had been found of a dinosaur called the Macrophalangia. At some point someone studied the remains of the two dinosaurs, I guess thinking they may have been relatives, but upon further inspection, they found out that the two were actually one in the same.”

Stiles, who had gotten lost in his rant, looked at Derek who seemed completely taken by surprise. His face immediately grew bright red in embarrassment and he ducked his head down in order to stare at the table while also wishing the ground would swallow him whole.

“The animal of the day is the harris hawk,” Derek said. God his voice was beautiful.

“What?” Stiles chose to respond, much like Derek had earlier.

“My little sister, she does those “Of the Day” things too but she does the daily animal one,” Derek told him. “In fact, you do the same thing she does when she’s nervous and start talking about them. It’s kind of cute.” Derek's smile coupled with his laugh made Stiles melt a little.

“Are you Autistic too?” Stiles choked a little.

“N-No,” he managed to stutter. “I just have really bad ADHD and talk a lot, especially when I’m nervous.”

“Well, whatever the reason I still think it’s cute.”

Stiles had never been so flustered yet so happy in his life.

Notes:

This is kind of like a late birthday post thing. My birthday (April 1st) not Stiles Stilinski's birthday (April 8th for the probably few people who don't know on this site). I honestly don't know if I'm going to post something for Stiles' birthday.
