Sirius Black was a menace and the worst roommate imaginable. He was an arrogant, insufferable jock and Severus wanted to strangle him.
Or he did… somehow Severus was wearing the idiot’s jersey and Black was spewing ridiculous nonsense that made Severus’ cheeks burn and his heart flutter.

Summary
This cannot be real. James must be going mad because there is no possible way Sirius' date is Snape. On the other hand, Lily is holding his arm, so perhaps he doesn't want it to be a hallucination.
When Lily agreed to go on a double date with James, and Sirius and his mystery date, James was beyond thrilled. Said date being Snivellus was not something James saw coming, but it had to be a prank, right? Right? But Sirius is holding Snape's hand and gazing at him like he hung the bloody moon, and Snape almost looks like he's smiling.

It isn't supposed to happen like this. Of all the people worth protecting in this conflict, he is not amongst their number. He'd made his choices, paid their prices. That death has not found him yet is no more than the grace of a promise to see this thing through to the end. No one is left to mourn him, after all. He isn't sure anyone would have had they still been alive.
No one except Sirius Black, apparently.
