Calm in a Storm

Summary:

Tom has really bad sensory overload ,and goes to his boyfriend for help.

Work Text:

Tom flopped himself back onto his back and stared blankly at the ceiling. He can't remember the last time he had gotten a good night's sleep, but it had been far too long. Too many nights coming home late from drinking was probably the source of his problems, but it had been going on for so long that he didn’t care anymore.

Usually, on nights like this, he’s so drunk he falls unconscious after a few hours. This, however, was, unfortunately, one of the fateful nights when he was sober. Tom already struggled badly enough with sensory overload and it was even worse at night for him. Every sound, and every feeling felt like it was a hundred times worse than it should be.

He reached over to his bedside table for his flask, praying there was still some alcohol left in there. He shook it, but nothing…fuck. He laid back in defeat, knowing he’d just have to make it through the night sober. He grated his teeth at the thought of trying to sleep knowing it would never work. That’s when something came to him. Something he hadn’t thought of yet.

Well, that was a lie, he had thought about it a lot but had always pushed it back because he didn’t wanna seem weird. The man already wasn’t good with conveying his feelings so god knows how much he’d fuck up if he tried his idea. At the same time though, trying to sleep alone hurt too much for him right now, and he desperately needed help.

The alcoholic slumped out of bed and quietly walked out of his room as if not to wake anyone in his empty apartment. He didn’t bother to grab shoes, it’s not like he was going very far. Slowly he made his way out of his room and walked a little way down the hallway before stopping in front of the room he was looking for. He hesitated at first before taking a deep breath and opening Matt’s door.

————————————————————————

Tom felt like he was walking on land mines entering the ginger's room. He wasn’t sure why he was scared I mean it’s not like Matt would get mad at him. Most likely the opposite, but the idea of getting near him always gave Tom a funny feeling. Those same feelings are what got him to accidentally choke out the fact he was in love with Matt one time, Straight to his face.

That night didn’t feel real to him. Matt felt the same way he didn’t feel real. How could he possibly love him? Oh well, no time to think about that now when you’re entering his room.

The brunette tip-toed through ginger’s messy room. He could somehow keep everything about himself tidy except his room. He made it to the foot of his bed and there laying fast asleep was Matt. Who knew someone could even make sleeping look beautiful, Tom thought.

Tom Hesitantly reached out his hand, and then practically forcing himself, he tapped Matt’s shoulder. His heart began to race when he saw the man shuffle before turning to face Tom, his eyes softening when he realizes who it is.

“Tom?”, Matt’s voice was groggy from being interrupted from his sleep.

Guilt washed over Tom for having to wake his boyfriend up. There was However no point in trying to leave now, no matter how bad he felt.

“I… I’m sorry to wake you Matt, and I’m probably gonna sound like a total dork for saying this but….. can I sleep with you?”, The man felt his face burn as he added the last part. He shut his eyes tight Not wanting to see the redhead's reaction, but when he did he found Matt to be some form of happiness. It was hard to tell seeming how it was a mix of both happiness and shock. It was hard to tell in the dark, but Matt’s face seemed to be flushed.

“I.. y-yeah of course! Shit, sorry I froze I was trying to process what you said”, He chuckled, his voice sounding flustered. He then scooted over to the bed and patted a spot next to him. Tom froze for a second. is this happening? The thought of sharing a bed with Matt was something he had only ever thought about. Now it’s happening to him.

Tom climbed onto the bed and pulled the covers over him. The sheets were soft and smelled of Matt’s cologne. He didn’t mind though, he liked how Matt smelled. Is that weird? He sure hopes not. Before Tom even had another second to think he suddenly feels his partner sling his arm over him and pulling him close.

Tom’s head now rested close to Matt’s shoulder. The brunette could feel the soft breathing of the other man on his neck which made his whole body shiver. His heart raced at the sudden contact, and apparently, the sound of his breath hitching was loud enough to be heard by the Ginger.

“Oh! I’m sorry I really should have asked. If I’m too close I can move away”, Matt slightly pushed himself away after he spoke, but was quickly met with Tom reaching to him.

“No don’t!”, He didn’t realize how needy that sounded until it came out of his mouth, “I liked it”. He said that last part quietly as if he was scared of being heard.

Matt’s face turned red once again and to hide it he buried his face back into Tom’s hair. The taller man held the brunette so gently as if he were made of glass. Tom wasn’t used to such kind treatment. He never really got a lot of it growing up and had gotten so numb to it that feeling another person felt unreal.

Tom laid still for a moment taking it all in before he finally reciprocated the touch and buried his face into Matt’s chest. Suddenly, all the horrible sounds became quieter, and finally, he felt his eyes grow heavy. Waking Matt up now and again now didn’t seem like such a bad idea. At least now he could be closer to him, and get some sleep.
