Chapter Text
TK never thought anything good would ever happen in his life again after all the action with Alex, the awkward engagement (or lack thereof), or the overdose.
And yet he was still here, sober for seven years and happily married for almost two. He'd already managed to thank his father many times over for deciding to drive them to Austin after finding him in the apartment. Now all he had to do was enjoy his life as TK Reyes with Carlos and his new found family.
It was no secret that Carlos was the type of man who put the well-being of others before his own. That was why he was so good at police work. TK sincerely hoped that his husband would eventually decide to take the detective exam or join a special unit.
So far, he hadn't been able to talk any sense into his husband, not even Gabriel, though Carlos looked at his father with admiration. TK wasn't going to give up so easily, even if he had to go to his stubborn husband's supervisor himself and ask for a promotion.
After the wedding (and a rather lavish wedding that was talked about for almost two weeks. To this day, the new Mr. and Mr. Reyes have not figured out how, halfway through the wedding, Tommy ended up with Owen's shirt on and Judd ended up without his shirt. Even TK, who didn't drink at all.) decided to sell their loft and buy a house for the long term.
This was partly due to the new owners of the loft above them, who quickly became ''neighbors from hell'' (seriously, how do you flood someone's kitchen and then turn everyone in the building against each other?) They also needed more space for their whole family to get together. They were also thinking about getting some kind of pet for adoption.
But the most important reason was that as soon as they were legally married, they applied for foster care training. They'd been talking about it since before they got engaged, but it wasn't serious then, it was just a plan for the future. They both knew they would like to have a child of their own someday, but there was a greater desire to help these children who had been abandoned by their parents for sometimes very trivial reasons.
Carlos once had a call to a homeless teenager whose parents had kicked him out of their home because he had confessed to them that he was gay. For a long time after the case, Carlos thought about the boy and prayed that he had found a better home somewhere else. It made him realize that even though his parents hadn't talked to him about it, they had reacted much better to his coming out than the parents of that teenager. It also solidified his decision to become a foster parent. If he could, he wanted to prevent situations like this from happening.
When he told TK, he didn't expect anything but full support. They were a great team. They could handle anything.
