Work Text:
They had been caught by surprise by the blackout. They had been sitting on the sofa, watching a movie on the telly, when the television and all the lights blanked out. Seems it was a neighborhood thing because the only light streaming in the windows was moonlight. It wasn’t a full moon outside, though, so the light was weak.
“I’ll find the torches,” Khan said.
“And I’ll light some candles, once you’ve got the torches.” She held out her hand in the dim light. “Lighter?”
“Good thing I smoke,” he said, standing and digging his lighter out of his trouser pocket.
“No, it’s a nasty, filthy habit and if you really wanted to you’d find another habit that didn’t smell so bad.” She took the lighter and stood up herself. He moved through to the utility closet while she stumbled around, looking for the decorative candles to light. Damn him and his near perfect eyesight, even in this dim light, she thought to herself as she banged her shin on the accent chair.
Soon there was a torch light in her direction, and she turned to see Khan handing it to her. She took it and went around more easily after that, lighting each candle even though they were a cacophony of scents. When she was done, she sat back on the sofa and curled into Khan, who had sat down while she was lighting the candles. “Better?” he asked.
“Better,” she said, resting her head on his shoulder. “Though one day I want to finish that movie.”
“I do too. I think it was just getting to the good part,” he said, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. “I think it’s on one of your many streaming services.”
“Probably.” She shut her eyes for a moment. “I hope the blackout is taken care of soon. I don’t want the food to spoil.”
“No, that wouldn’t be good. But if we don’t open the refrigerator or freezer, we should be fine.”
“And what if I want a midnight snack?” she asked, opening her eyes and looking at him.
“It depends on what you’re hungry for,” he said, his eyes mischievously sparkling.
“Oh? Is that so?” she asked. “What if I’m hungry for something not food?”
“I can take care of that,” he said, leaning in and cupping her cheek before capturing her lips in a kiss. She kissed him back greedily, and soon he shifted their positions so he was leaning on the sofa and she was straddling him. Even though their evening took a turn, she thought to herself, it was a rather pleasant turn.
