Work Text:

“Alright, you’re done.” The makeup artist finishes the last details of Becky’s eyes and pulls away, examining her face. “Have fun today, yes?”

Becky smiles at her reflection in the mirror. “Wow! This looks great. I will, thank you.”

She skips out of the trailer and makes her way to the prepared set. The gravel path leading down to the clearing makes a satisfying crunching sound under her feet. Far above, she sees clouds rolling gently, ambling across the calm sky.

Today’s round of the press circuit includes an early morning photoshoot under the new sun, then a few interviews for different magazines and networks. Finally, work would end in a nighttime shooting for the next episode.

It is hard work, and don’t get her wrong, she loves it. She knows what she signed up for when she chose acting as her career. The devotion and appreciation from the fans and the opportunity to share great stories make the job worth it.

That isn’t to say there are times when she wishes she chose a different path. A job that would let her sleep in, have time off on a regular basis. But she is reminded of all the good parts, and those things keep her going. One of those things is her best friend, her soulmate, her costar. All this would be so much harder if Freen wasn’t in the thick of all the chaos with her. The older woman is the only other person who understands the pressure of the role, the fame, the fanbase expectations.

They bonded over music taste, favorite films, shared trauma, and the wacky hours that comes with the territory. They cling to each other like a couple of sailors lost at sea, sometimes. Freen is her favorite person, she has discovered.

It is her best friend who she is looking for at this very moment. At this point, she knows that Freen’s makeup takes less time than hers does. Not by much, but enough that Freen is waiting for her on set when she exits her makeup chair.

She isn’t worried, because she knows that Freen will always wait for her. Anytime, anywhere. It’s one of the many things that she loves about her.

She spies Freen standing off to the side of all the cameras and lights, staring at the wide expanse of nature. Slowly, she wades through the equipment and crew, settling into her favorite spot: at Freen’s left side. Sighing softly, Becky rests her chin on the other woman’s shoulder. Not wanting to break the silence just yet, she follows Freen’s gaze.

The shoot is in a wide meadow, a field of tall grass and wildflowers. Becky can feel the dust and pollen slightly tickling at her nose, but thankfully the allergy medicine she takes every morning keeps the sneezes and sniffles at bay.

Off in the distance, Becky can see a small forest. She wonders how the light dapples the floor in the midst of all the trees. One of these days, she hopes, their job will take them into such pretty scenery.

For now, she is happy to be anywhere, as long as she can spend time with her darling. She finally drags her eyes from the scenery before her and takes a good look at what the older woman is wearing.

A perfectly-tailored black suit hugs her curves, bringing out the darkness of her bold eyebrows. The thin black necktie carelessly hanging around her neck makes Becky’s heart speed up. As she wraps her arms around the other woman’s waist under the blazer, she feels the suspenders holding up the trousers Freen is wearing.

Freen’s outfit contrasts hers perfectly. Today, her outfit is a thin white cardigan over a white blouse and a long black skirt, tailored to give her a vintage shape. Her black heels are just as shiny as the shoes Freen wears. While Freen’s hair is in a loose low bun, her locks are wavy and down.

The wardrobe department has decided to put Freen in flat shoes, solid black dress shoes that keep her close to the ground, making Becky the tall one between them for once. She takes advantage of their new height difference and drops a sweet kiss to the very top of her best friend’s head, burying her nose in the soft brown hair.

Following the release of Gap, stylists have taken to dressing Freen in more masculine clothes and Becky in more feminine clothes. Becky loves every moment of it, locking away as many memories as she can in her heart. She loves when Freen brings out her boyish side. There is still hesitation in her favorite brown eyes, but Becky is quick to reassure her.

“You look handsome, babe.”

Freen’s eyes shine brightly as she flashes a small smile her way. There’s still a touch of grogginess to her voice, but it does nothing to hide the affection as her fond smile wraps around her name.

“And you look so pretty, BB.”

The unabashed love melts Becky. She has to resist the urge to squeeze her friend’s cheeks. Freen’s nose crinkles as she raises her arms above her head and yawns widely. She grumbles softly, unhappy at the early call time.

While Becky is a morning person, Freen definitely is not. Her tempting pleas for “five more minutes” have nearly made them late to work in the past. But she always listens when Becky tells her to get out of bed and get ready.

Becky throws her arms around Freen’s neck and hums into her temple. “Today’s going to be a good day.”

“How do you know?” Freen pulls back, adjusting the cardigan.

Becky chuckles kindly. “I’m with you, silly. Any day spent with you is a good day.”

Before Freen can say anything in response, the director calls them over. “We’re ready to start!”

Her answer lies in the way her hands touch the small of her back, holding her steady as they make their way in front of the cameras.

So if Becky throws a little more-than-usual caution into the wind and gingerly presses her cherry-red lips against Freen’s pale cheek, long enough to leave a mark, well… it’s her quiet reply.
