Yes, he is between the devil and the deep blue sea, but it will not be the devil’s bullet that kills him. He won’t let it be. Instead he will drown, in those dark eyes, that furrowed brow, those parted lips. He’s always loved the ocean, drawn to it in a way he can’t quite put to words. Always watching the waves from afar. Never diving in, never daring. But he can see it now, as time seems to stop and the world falls away. It’s just him and Marshall in a hospital room.
Benedikt Motagov is going to drown.
But somehow that’s okay.
The bullet strikes his side. He goes down without a cry.
