will you remember me in the same way as I remember you?

Summary:

All I ask you, Obito, is to dream of me in your tsukuyomi. Don't forget me.

Notes:

sooo... this. I don't know how I can explain this. I wrote this thingy two or three months ago when I was on my Angst Obikaka Phase™️ and thought about exercising my writing. at the time I thought it was trash and forgot about it, but, yesterday I found this and thought it looked pretty good and now we're here. oh and this is also a goodbye to my past (not) lover.

basically, when they fight in Kamui Obito realizes that Kakashi loves him and Kakashi dies???? idfk

this is not beta read and English isn't my first language lol there might be some grammar mistakes and/or typos.

alternate titles: Soldier down on that icy ground from Taylor Swift's The Great War and Promise me a place in your house of memories from Panic! at the Disco's House of Memories.

fun fact: this was inspired by house of memories

Work Text:

They fight. Equal to equal. Both of them giving all that they can considering the circumstances, considering the lack of killing intent from one of the parties. During the fight, Kakashi wonders if Obito pulls quick genjutsus about their childhood. They're not. These are just memories, memories about two boys that were the complete opposite of each other and never knew how to complete one another.

Kakashi wants to cry, deep down. Obito is so beautiful, even with all those scars. Deep down all that the Hatake wants is to pull his old friend into a hug and shout at him to let everything go. He wants to stroke Obito's face and feel it. He wants to kiss Obito so, so bad, that takes his breath away.

The Uchiha seems to notice and uses it against Kakashi, pulling his face closer to the white haired man's ear. It's impossible not to fall for the following action.

"So, a real love triangle, huh?"

The Hidden Leaf jounin quivers.

But he's Kakashi, and still is a highly skilled broken ninja who ignores his feelings and its not capable of letting the past go, so he jumps back in time to scape from one of Obito's weird rods.

They are a few feet away from each other, looking deeply into each others eyes.

"It took you some time to realize it."

Obito laughs at Kakashi's speech with disdain.

"It's a pity how it worked out for both of us, isn't it, Bakakashi?" a younger Obito shows up in front of him, wearing those stupid goggles and the old kind smile on his face. Kakashi knows this is a genjutsu, but, for a minute, he lets his guard down. And when he snaps out of it it's already too late. Kakashi has a metal rod all the way in and out of his heart. Heh, caught in the heart, indeed.

He falls on his knees, Obito following his action in a improbable act of..., he doesn't know. Can't think of anymore, his life already leaving his body.

"You know, I really wanted you to have your dream but I have this feeling you will always be broken", and without expecting, Obito holds his head with both hands, bringing it closer to his own. Their foreheads are touching now and somehow it feels more intimate than a kiss ever would.

"All I ask you, Obito, is to dream of me in your tsukuyomi", Kakashi says, barely breathing anymore and already losing consciousness, yet he's capable of seeing Obito's dark black orbs instead of the vengeful red of the Sharingan. "Don't forget me, even if you hate me to the bottom of your heart. As long... as you have me there, that's what matters."

"Goodbye, Bakakashi."

The last thing Kakashi feels before leaving this world is the touch of cold lips on his forehead.
