    Amberly didn’t like the holidays.

    It got rough, each year around this time. She’d had no reason to think this year would be any different. Everyone else would be merry with the warmth of booze and high off the gift exchanges while she would be locked in her room, in the dark, watching Minecraft builds under the covers. She'd had no reason to think that just because she had made a new friend, things would be different.
