Chapter Text
“You sure about this, kid?” Eda gazed at her… Daughter? It still felt weird calling Luz that, even though everyone seemed to agree it was the most apt term to describe their relationship at this point.
“Yeah. I want you to see how we got back to the Boiling Isles, and I wanna show everyone else what happened during the fight with Belos.”
“…Kid, you do realize that you DIED during that first fight with Belos after he possessed the Titan, right?”
Luz didn’t need to be reminded of that. She still remembers the horrified looks on Eda and King’s faces as she was transformed into many small light balls. She still remembered the feeling of weightlessness that followed, as she sunk deeper into the abyss.
“Yeah, I know. And I’ve already told Amity in private. It’s time the rest of them knew, too.”
“You sure you’re ready?”
“Yeah, of course! Besides, I get to show ‘em my Titan form, too.”
Eda snorts as she laughs. “Yeah, got a feeling Boots is REALLY gonna like that.” She said, giving Luz a not-at-all-subtle wink.
“Eda!”
“Alright, alright. Me and Rainestorm’ll get started on the potion. You call everyone here.” Eda went to the shack to get the necessary ingredients, and Stringbean floated up next to Luz.
“Alright, Stringbean, that’s your cue. Go tell everyone I have something important to tell them!”
Stringbean nodded happily and floated off outside the window.
Seeing her palisman fly off, she sat down on the couch sadly. She pulled out a light glyph and tapped it in the hopes of her magic coming back, but nothing happened.
“It was worth a shot.”
Then, the familiar pitter-patter of small claws entered Luz’s earshot. She turned around and saw none other than her little brother, King.
“Hey, Luz. Any luck getting the glyphs to work again?”
“…” Luz doesn’t respond, staring at the non-functioning glyph.
“I guess not. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. Hey, King.”
“Weh?”
“You know how these glyphs were magic from the Titan, right?”
“Yeah?” King took a second to think about it. “Wait, does that mean that I-“
“Yeah! I mean, if your dad had these glyphs, why wouldn’t you?”
“Wouldn’t he be our dad now?”
“…Oh, I guess you’re right!”
King looked away for a moment before turning to his sister. “Luz, what was he like?”
I guess I should’ve seen this coming.
“Well, he was very large, and she was really kind-“
“Wait, she?”
“Oh, right! He actually said the same thing you did when I gave you my Grom tiara!”
Luz stood up, clearing her throat before mimicking the Titan’s voice.
“I am both king and queen, best of both things! But “dad” works fine.”
King nodded in understanding. “Okay… Can you please continue?”
“…He told me he had been keeping watch of you for your entire life, and I guess she saw me and Eda being so kind to you, so in return, he showed me all the glyphs!”
“He… He really cared about me, didn’t she?”
Luz placed her hand on King’s bony head.
“He loved you more than you know. It tore him up to not be able to protect you more. But he’s in a better place now.”
King wiped away a few tears from his eyes, and moved to lie on Luz’s lap.
“Thank you, Luz. For everything.”
“Don’t mention it, buddy.”
A sudden knock at the door interrupted the two’s heart to heart, as it swung open.
“Hey Luz! You have some visitors, Hoot hoot!” Cried out Hooty, cheerful as ever.
One by one, Amity, Willow, Gus, and Hunter walked into the house.
“Oh, guys! That was fast!” Stringbean flew in through the door and nuzzled up against Luz’s cheek.
“Well, we heard you had something important to tell us, so of course we came here as soon as possible.” Hunter answered calmly, yet with some concern.
“Well-“
Before she could answer, Eda came sprinting down the hall, holding 3 bottles carefully in her arm.
“Ah, you kids are here. Perfect timing.” Eda set the potions down on the table.
“Eda, what’s going on?” Willow asked.
“Oh, Luz wants us to enter into her mindscape.”
“And what about MEEEEEEE?” Exclaimed Hooty from the now-broken window.
“Nope. Don’t wanna risk you tearing apart the place.”
“That is perfectly acceptable!” Hooty returned to his proper place.
“…Anyway, what do you kids say?”
“I’m in. Luz went into my mindscape to help me once. If something’s bothering her, then I’m more than willing to help.”
“Yeah, duh! We’ll always be there for you, Luz!” Gus spoke up.
“Even though the last time we were in a mindscape… Didn’t go well,” Hunter paused briefly, trying to ignore the memories that rushed back. “clearly this is important to you, Luz. So I’ll help.”
“…Luz, you don’t have to do this.” Amity stepped closer, only to be cut off by Luz.
“No, but I want to. You guys deserve to know what happened. Both during that fight… And before I came here.”
“Alright, Luz. Drink this.” Eda hands Luz a bottle of a dark purple liquid, and she drinks it all slowly.
“What is this?”
“It’ll help ya sleep. Not quite as fast as Sleeping Nettles, but without the heightened dreams.”
That was a relief to hear. Luz had, quite frankly, had had enough of nightmares for a bit.
“Alright, thanks.” She laid down on the couch, prompting King to get off of her lap. After a few minutes, Luz was out like a light.
“Alright, she’s out.” She went over to grab the mindscape potion, but- “Ah crap.”
“What’s wrong?” King asked.
“I forgot this potion needs a power source.”
“Well… I think I know how to help with that!”
“…King, no.”
“Come on, Eda! It’s for Luz!”
“…Fine, but only as much as we need to get there and back.”
A few minutes later, Eda returned with a needle. After a small prick, she had extracted what she needed. The liquid that once flowed through the Isle’s veins. Titan’s Blood.
“Alright, this should be enough. But you really need to stop doing this. You’re still young, you know.”
“…Okay.”
The old witch tried injecting the blood into the potions, but having only one arm made it hard. Luckily, Hunter noticed her struggle, and held the potions for her.
“Heh, thanks, kid.”
“No problem, Ma- I mean, Eda.”
She pretended to ignore that slip up as she finished preparing both potions. After that was done, she took one away from Hunter.
“Alright, one to get in, one to get out. Keep that safe, kid.”
Hunter nodded, and held the potion tight.
“Alright, everyone in a circle.”
The group obeyed, standing in a circle around Luz, interlocking hands.
Eda took a deep breath and smashed the potion against the floor. Suddenly, a golden light enveloped everyone, and just like that, The Owl House was empty of everyone except Luz. And Raine. And Hooty.
