Work Text:
Chenle hums quietly to himself as he waits in the silent hallway. He hears some commotion on the other side of the door and then a voice telling him to wait. Eventually he hears the sound of footsteps and then the door is being thrown open.
“Who the-” the person stops and smiles, “Oh, hey Chenle!”
Chenle smiles back at Jisung, pulling the taller boy into a hug “Hey, Sungie!” He can hear the sound of a videogame start up again which must explain why Jisung was so hostile when he first opened the door, they take their games very seriously.
Right on cue he watches as Jisung turns around with a glare, “Hyuck keep the damn game paused! I was answering the door.”
Donghyuck snorts from where he’s sitting on the couch, smashing buttons. “Not my problem you didn’t take your controller with you.”
Jisung gives Chenle a quick smile, “Would you mind closing the door? Thanks.” And then he’s running back in the living room.
“Ow–what the fuck? Don’t hit me with that, it hurts.”
Chenle gently closes the door, snickering slightly as he hears the two boys bickering get louder and louder. He hopes Jaemin’s door is closed. He sends Donghyuck a small wave, he’s too busy dodging a remote controller to notice, and then goes into the kitchen so he can get the coffee ready. He’s not a coffee drinker himself, he finds the taste absolutely disgusting and prefers sweeter things like hot chocolate, but he asked Jaemin to teach him how to make coffee the way he likes and after almost breaking the machine–twice–he finally learned how to work it. In his defense the coffee machine they have is old, so it really wasn’t Chenle’s fault when he tried to make hot chocolate in it. They’re unrelated, but Chenle stands by his point.
Once the coffee is going he walks out of the kitchen and past the boys who are still arguing. This time Donghyuck actually notices him and he nods to the doors down the hallway. Chenle had a feeling Jaemin was still cooped up in his room, but he still nodded in thanks. He walks to the end of the hallway and tries to open the door only to find it locked, but he was expecting that. He easily unlocks it with a bobby pin he started carrying with him and then tries to open the door as quietly as he can so he doesn’t wake up the person sleeping soundly in the room.
Chenle laughs lightly as he sees the shirtless boy, on his stomach, sleeping the day away. His face is hiding in the pillow and Chenle can only guess it’s because he forgot to close his curtain before going to bed which means there's light flooding the room. He walks over to the window and shuts his black curtains. He turns to look at Jaemin to see he’s rolled over onto his back, but his eyes are still shut.
Chenle makes his way over to the bed, not bothering to take off his jacket as he lays beside his boyfriend in the bed with his hand resting under his chin. He smiles as he starts to play with his dark hair. It used to be blonde not long ago, until Jaemin came to the conclusion that it was bringing him too much attention and went back to black. Chenle finds it silly because he thinks Jaemin gathers attention no matter what color his hair is, but he kept that thought to himself. After a few moments of quiet he sees the corner of Jaemin’s lips start to pull up.
“I knew it,” Chenle whispers with a grin, “I knew you were awake.”
A full smile falls on his face, but he keeps his eyes shut. “Mhm, been up for the last hour actually.”
Chenle pouts, “Are they being too loud?”
“Always.”
“Want me to go beat them up for you,” Chenle asks with a wicked smile.
Jaemin finally opens his eyes, “No, stay here. Plus you’re too cute to commit such a violent act.”
Chenle lays his head on Jaemin’s chest, smiling when Jaemin tugs him closer. “Nobody ever suspects the cute ones.”
After a while Chenle wiggles his way out of Jaemin’s arm and off his bed. Jaemin frowns as he watches him, “Where are you going?”
“We’re,” he emphasizes, “Getting up now.”
Jaemin gives him an unamused look.
“Jaem, it’s 3 in the afternoon.”
“Your point?”
Chenle rolls his eyes as he starts to leave the room. “You have 10 minutes to get up and ready,” he gives him a pointed look and makes sure to leave his door open so it forces him to get up. He hears the groan Jaemin lets out but he also hears the rustling of the bed sheets so it must work. He goes to sit on the couch, smiling when he does hear Jaemin’s door shut, hopefully to get dressed and not so he can fall back asleep. Chenle’s not that worried though, he knows Jaemin values spending time with Chenle more than he dislikes interacting with his roommate.
“Is he up?” Donghyuck asks, tongue sticking out as he smashes buttons on the controller.
Chenle nods his head as he watches whatever is happening on the screen.
“I swear you’re the only one that can get him to leave his room, he just shoos me away when I knock on his door,” Jisung pouts.
Donghyuck clicks his tongue, “Maybe you’re just annoying.”
“But I’m his brother.”
“Exactly,” Donghyuck shrugs, “You’re his annoying little brother–hey not fair!” Donghyuck whines when Jisung manages to kill his character on the screen.
Chenle hears the sound of a door opening behind him and his head falls back on the couch so he can watch as Jaemin walks into the room, dressed in his black hoodie and jeans. Chenle smiles when he sees him, and Jaemin returns the smile until he sees Chenle start to open his mouth, “Good morning sleepy head!”
“And he’s awake!” Donghyuck announces loudly.
Jaemin sends Chenle a glare, but Chenle just returns it with a sweet smile he knows Jaemin can’t resist. And just like he expected, Jaemin softens instantly.
Jisung’s been quiet, only looking at Jaemin with his big eyes and a pout on his lip until Jaemin sighs and walks over to him. Jaemin places a hand on the top of his head and runs his hand through his hair, causing Jisung to giggle, “What are you pouting about.”
Jisung smiles and gives him a shrug, “I just haven't seen you all day.”
“We were starting to think you were dead,” Donghyuck says.
Jaemin ignores him. “How about we hang in my room later?” He says, keeping his eyes on Jisung and Jisung only, but of course Donghyuck butts in.
“Sweet, party in Jaemin’s room later!” He yells as he gets up and stretches.
Jaemin glares at him, “I was talking to my broth-”
“Maybe we can watch movies? That’ll be fun,” Jisung says with excitement and follows Donghyuck out of the living room to do whatever it is they’ll do.
Jaemin sighs and begins to walk to the kitchen, but not before running his hand through Chenle’s hair, a silent request for him to follow.
“This is your fault,” Jaemin mumbles as he pours himself a cup of coffee with Chenle clung to his back.
“I’m innocent, your honor.”
“Says a liar.”
Chenle giggles into his back. “Enough about that, hurry up and finish your coffee.”
Jaemin turns around in Chenle’s arms with a raised eyebrow. “Why are you rushing me and the only thing that helps me make it through the day?”
Chenle gives him an innocent smile, arms still wrapped around him. “No reason.” A pause, “But hurry up.”
Jaemin makes a point to take a long and slow sip of his coffee.
“You’re the worst.”
“You love me.”
Once Jaemin is finished with his coffee, Chenle tries to not so discreetly drag Jaemin to the front door. Jaemin stays in his spot, watching as Chenle tries to drag him by the arm.
“What are you doing?”
“Just follow me,” Chenle says, still unsuccessfully trying to pull Jaemin out the door.
“Chenle, I’m not leaving this apartment.”
Chenle drops his arm with a pout, “Please,” he says.
Jaemin shrugs as he shoves his hand in his pocket, “I just don’t feel like going out, baby.”
Chenle has another whine on the tip of his tongue, but he stops himself. He likes going out, especially when their schedules line up and they can actually do something other than study in the same room together. He wants to go on a date, a date that doesn’t involve staying cooped up in their rooms and watching movies. He loves those dates too, but sometimes he just wants to do something different. Jaemin’s the opposite. He doesn't like going out, says it gives him too much anxiety having to interact with people or to walk through the crowds. Chenle has to remind himself of that, especially when he gets too excited at the idea of going out on their days off.
Chenle gives him a sheepish smile, “Sorry, I got too excited. I thought we could go on a date today, but,” Chenle looks down and messes with the sleeves of his jacket. He looks up again with a smile, “We can stay here if you want.”
Jaemin stares at him for a moment before sighing. He flicks Chenle’s forehead, “Next time tell me when you want to go on a date.”
Chenke pouts as he rubs the spot on his forehead, “I said I got too excited.”
Jaemin laughs and grabs Chenle’s hand to give it a squeeze. “What did you want to do today?”
Chenle brightens up instantly, “I was thinking we could go get some ice cream from that new place that opened up.” Chenle bounces in excitement, “Renjun went with Mark and sent me a picture of all the toppings he added on.” Chenle looks at him seriously, “Jaemin, they have gummy bears. I need gummy bears in my ice cream, Jaemin.”
Jaemin smiles, “You need it?”
Chenle nods, “Yes.”
“Even though we could go to the store, buy ice cream and gummy bears and eat it at home?”
Chenle rolls his eyes, “We could do that-”
“It would probably be cheaper than whatever they’re charging,” Jaemin interrupts with a smirk.
“Shush,” Chenle says, placing a finger over his mouth. He yelps when Jaemin licks it. “As I was saying,” he says with a glare directed at the grinning boy, “We could do that if you want, I don’t mind.”
Jaemin hums as he pulls Chenle into his arms, “No, it’s ok.” He smiles down at Chenle, “I’m ok with that, as long as we don’t stay there all day.”
“We won’t~” Chenle sings, leaning up to peck Jaemin’s lips, “We’ll ge ice cream and come right back here.”
“Perfect,” Jaemin says right before he captures Chenle in a kiss.
“Wonderful,” Jaemin sighs under his breath.
Chenle pouts as he steps out of line to see how many more people are in front of them.
A lot, he concludes.
“Sorry, Jaemin,” Chanel says with his head down. “I didn’t think it would be this crowded,” he pouts.
Jaemin catches the pout and pulls Chenle against his side, “I’m not annoyed at you baby, don’t worry. I’m annoyed at this damn line,” he plants a kiss to the side of Chenle’s head, “You didn’t realize it would be this long.”
“We can leave if you want,” he asks softly, but Jaemin shakes his head.
“If my baby wants ice cream with gummy bears, then that’s what he’s going to get.”
Those were his famous last words.
Two hours later they finally find themselves staring at the menu of various ice cream flavors and toppings. Chenle takes a glance at Jaemin and can tell he’s drained. He takes the boy's hand and squeezes, sending him an apologetic smile. Jaemin glances at their hands and then sends Chenle a smile, “Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”
Chenle is sure Jaemin is not fine so as soon as they’re next in line he’s rushing his order out at the very surprised employee. The employee gives a nervous glance at Jaemin, only to relax their shoulders when Jaemin gives a simple order, just a chocolate cone.
He goes to grab his wallet from his back pocket, but Chenle dangles it in front of his face. “Looking for this?” He smirks as he hands the employee Jaemin’s card.
“My boyfriends a thief,” Jaemin laughs as he stuffs his wallet back in his pocket.
“Oh hush,” Chenle says, bumping the boy with his hips, “I’m going to treat us to takeout later.”
“You’re still a thief.”
Chenle sticks his tongue out at the laughing boy, “Your thief.”
“Yes, my little thief,” Jaemin smiles.
They eventually get handed their ice cream and Chenle has never been pulled out of a place faster in his life. “Jaemin, slow down,” he laughs.
Jaemin shakes his head as he drags Chenle through the door, “Not until we’re away from,” he shudders, “People.” Jaemin starts to guide them down the familiar walk back to his apartment, but something seems to catch his eyes because he’s glancing at the street and then dragging Chenle across it.
“Where are we going?” Chenle asks as Jaemin drags him into a park.
“Away from people,” Jaemin says.
“But what about going back to your place?”
One look at Jaemin’s face gives Chenle his answer as he begins to laugh.
“Donghyuck,” Jaemin grimaces.
“You love him,” Chenle teases, watching the way Jaemin shudders at the mention of loving that boy, but he doesn’t deny it.
The park happens to be rather quiet and empty, which makes the walk peaceful as they enjoy their ice cream.
There’s a few important things to know about his boyfriend. People give him anxiety, yes, but he also loves animals, and evidence is shown in front of him as he watches Jaemin light up as they pass a puppy taking a walk. He has no problems asking the owner if he can pet the puppy and as soon as permission is given he kneels down and lets the dog jump at his chest. “Who’s a good boy, you’re a good boy,” he coos as he gives the dog many deserving pets. He makes a kissy face at the dog, only to pull back when the dog tries to lick his face.
Chenle is seconds away from recording the encounter because it’s just so freaking cute, but then the dog starts to knock into Jaemin’s hand, the one holding the ice cream, and everyone watches in silence as the ice cream falls off the top of the cone and onto the floor. Jaemin is quick to stop the dog from going near it as the owner apologizes and tries to calm down the excited pup.
“It’s ok,” Jaemin laughs as he gives the dog one last scratch and then a wave goodbye.
They do their best to clean up. Chenle watches Jaemin pout as he tosses his ruined ice cream in the trash. He sighs as he turns to Chenle, “It was worth it.”
Chenle laughs as he drags him away from the fallen cone. As they’re walking Chenle offers Jaemin some of his ice cream and Jaemin gladly accepts.
“Mm, the gummy bears are good.”
“I know right!”
Chenle can’t help himself the next time Jaemin wraps his hand around Chenle’s wrist and brings the cone to his mouth. As soon as it’s close enough, Chenle boops the ice cream against his nose, giggling when Jaemin jerks back and goes cross eyed as he tries to look at the ice cream on the tip of his nose.
“Oops,” Chenle giggles, “My hand slipped.”
Jaemin gives him an unimpressed look showing he does not buy that. “Right, I’m sure it did.” Before Chenle can blink, Jaemin is pulling him into his arms and rubbing his face against Chenle’s cheek.
Chenle laughs and tries to squirm away, “Stop you dork, you’re getting ice cream on me.”
Jaemin smiles into the crook of his neck, “Deserved.”
With all the squirming Chenle does trying to get out of Jaemin’s bear hug, it’s really not a surprise that his ice cream is the next victim.
“At least you ate all the gummy bears from it.”
Chenle smacks his shoulder.
On the way home Chenle manages to get Jaemin to buy him a pack of gummy bears and when they finally make it back to Jaemin’s apartment, they collapse on his bed. Chenle rests his cheek on Jaemin’s chest as he eats his gummy bears while Jaemin pulls up something on his phone for them to watch.
Chenle watches Jaemin scroll through the list of movies.
“Jaemin?”
Jaemin hums as he clicks on one of the movie options.
“I love you.”
Jaemin’s thumb freezes and after a second he sets his phone down. He rolls onto his side so he’s now facing Chenle.
He smiles, “I love you too.”
“For our next date,” Chenle says as he feeds Jaemin a gummy bear. “I’ll let you decide.”
“And you’re ok if we don’t go out?”
Chenle nods his head, “Anything you want to do, even if we don’t step foot outside.”
Jaemin watches as Chenle happily eats his gummy bears.
“I love you.”
Chenle giggles, leaning forward to kiss his lips. “I love you too.”
