Work Text:
Izuku was panicking. How could he have ever made such a life changing mistake? Scratch that, he meant a life ending mistake.
Izuku and Katsuki have been through a lot together, both good and bad. They started out as childhood friends, then turned bully and victim, rivals, and now they are what Izuku would call friends. Katsuki, however stubborn as he is, wouldn't be caught dead agreeing that they were.
What does this have to do with his current internal crisis? Well, Izuku has a secret: his feelings for his friend are much more than platonic. He never had the intention of telling him though.
It wasn't often that Izuku and Katsuki would talk through text. Katsuki was a man of action and thought words weren't as powerful. If the blond thought there was something he needed to say to him, he would do it in person. Because of this, their chat was relatively blank.
Sometimes, Izuku would think about texting him, then delete what he had written, over, and over again. After a while he started to use the chat as his own form of release for his feelings. He would type all the things he wished to say to Katsuki but he would never end up pressing send.
The problem? This time he made the drastic error of accidentally pressing send.
In a state of haste, he messaged the person who knew about his feelings and hoped would be able to help him.
smallmight:
Uraraka, tell my mom I love her and tell the rest of the class that it was an honor to have known them.
[9:30PM]
ifloat2:
What's wrong? Are you okay Deku?
[9:32PM]
smallmight:
NO. I JUST SENT KACCHAN WHAT WAS BASICALLY A LOVE CONFESSION THROUGH TEXT.
[9:33PM]
smallmight:
He's gonna kill me fjakfjhfjssj
[9:33PM]
ifloat2:
Well, what did he say in reply?!
[9:34PM]
smallmight:
I don't know! I'm too scared to see the damage I caused…
[9:34PM]
ifloat2:
At least tell me what you sent him?
[9:35PM]
smallmight:
Please don't laugh
[9:36PM]
smallmight:
"Your eyes, they shine like rubies
Your hair, I wish to touch
You've never ceased to amaze me
I love you, oh so much
In a world full of heros,
You shine brighter than the sun
You have a big ego
My heart's just another thing you've won
We have a rough history,
That's not hard to tell
You are my symbol of victory
I seems only right that for you, I fell
To you I am a pebble
My heart is set in stone
You'll always be my someone special
But you don't feel the same, I know"
[9:36PM]
ifloat2:
You wrote a poem about him? OMG!
[9:37PM]
ifloat2:
Bakugo is one lucky man.
[9:38PM]
smallmight:
I never intended for him to see it!
[9:40PM]

Sometimes I just type the things I never have the courage to say in our chat, but I never send them. This time I accidentally pressed send.

I really am a useless Deku, I just ruined my relationship with Kacchan!
[9:40PM]
ifloat2:
How would you know that? You didn't even stick around to see what his response was!
[9:41PM]
ifloat2:
He could like you too! God knows there's enough tension between the two of you.
[9:41PM]
Tension. That's one way you could describe it, Izuku guessed. They had come a long way from what they were in their first year of UA. Katsuki had helped him with his progress of OFA, he had apologized to Izuku for his treatment of him in the past, and he had risked his life for him, twice . In the middle of their second year, he would like to think that the blond cared about him. They were closer than ever. But that didn't mean that Katsuki felt the same way as he did.
Not long after Izuku read Ochako's last text, his phone buzzed with new messages, except these ones were from Katsuki.
Heart practically beating out of his chest with anxiety, he checked his chat with Katsuki and saw a few texts in response to the one that started it all.
kingexplosionmurder:
Deku.
[9:26PM]
kingexplosionmurder:
What the fuck was that you just sent?
[9:26PM]
The first two texts were the kind of responses he figured he would get. The third and most recent, however? Unexpected.
kingexplosionmurder:
Open your door.
[9:44PM]
A loud knock.
Open his door? Was Katsuki really at his door? Oh no, he must be pissed for sure!
He had sent the accidental confession an hour after the explosion user was usually in bed. It was bad enough that he sent it by accident, but he had hoped that he would be able to have the time to compose himself before Katsuki decided to come for him!
This was bad. This was really bad.
Great job Izuku Midoriya, you have really done it this time! Not only did he confess to his crush, but he did it through text . He was never going to live this down, if he actually lives through this that is.
Another knock, but this one even louder than the last.
"Deku! I know you're in there. Open up the door right now before I blow it up."
Well that absolutely confirms it, Katsuki is at his door.
"I'll only open the door if you promise not to kill me," Izuku said.
"I'm not going to kill you, Deku. I just need to talk to you about whatever the fuck that text was."
"Fine."
Resigned to his fate, Izuku opened the door for him. What was on the other side made him uneasy. Katsuki was wearing his signature black tank top and sweatpants with slippers, but that wasn't what made him uneasy, oh no , it was the blank look on his face.
Everyone who knew Katsuki knew that his go to expression was anger, his face almost always set in a deep scowl. So seeing him like this, quiet and void of expression, scared Izuku more than any form of anger he could have seen.
"So," Izuku began, "What about my text did you want to discuss?"
"Are you really asking me that right now? That was a poem, Deku. A sappy ass poem at that," he took a breath, then continued speaking, "I want to know how long you've felt like that. Don't bother spewing bullshit excuses either, I want the truth."
They walked over to Izuku's bed and sat down with about a foot in between them.
Izuku looked down at his hands and fiddled with his fingers as he spoke, "I'd like to start off by saying I'm sorry. I know you weren't expecting me to do something like that, and I did it in such an improper way too. I never meant to tell you how I felt, especially not that way, but sending you that was an accident,"
He clasped his hands together, applying pressure so he'd have something to focus on other than his next words, "I've had feelings for you for probably forever, but what made me realize them was our fight at Ground Beta. We had such a deep talk there and after learning your true thoughts of me, knowing the true reason why you acted as if you hated me, it let me understand you a bit better."
Once he had stopped speaking, Katsuki scooted closer to him and gently pried his hands apart from one another and set them on the bed.
"An accident, huh? Well you clearly must've typed that in our chat in order for that to happen. If you never planned on confessing to me, why would you write it?" A rhetorical question, for he continued to speak. "I don't know how the fuck you got the idea into your head that you like me, but you must be some kind of crazy if you feel that way. You wrote in your poem that you knew that I didn't feel the same way, but in addition to being crazy, you must also be an idiot."
"Hey! Don't invalidate my feelings like that!" A moment of silence. "Wait, what? What do you mean I'm an idiot?"
He looked Izuku in the eyes, "Only that you are. You are oblivious and dumb, but I must also be crazy because for some reason, I like your dumbass." He smirked.
"You what? But how is that possible?" He started muttering, "Of course I know he cares for me, that much is obvious, but him liking me back? Nah, he has got to be joking or at least trying to make me feel let down easier. He said like afterall, that could mean anything from tolerate, to in a friendly manner-"
Katsuki put a hand over his mouth to stop his rant.
"Like, love, what's the difference really? Have you ever heard me tell someone I liked them, Deku?"
He removed his hand from the other's mouth.
"Well no, but-"
"But nothing. If you really don't believe me, I guess I'll just have to prove it then?"
"What do you mea-"
Katsuki pulled him into a kiss. After Izuku realized what was going on, he kissed him back. It was soft, softer than he imagined it would be.
"Was that proof enough?" Katsuki said as he pulled back. A light dust of pink on his cheeks showed how he was actually affected.
"Yes," Izuku smiled back at him, a blush also on his cheeks, covering his freckles. "I can't believe that the mistake I thought was going to ruin our relationship was what caused the start of something more."
"Yeah? Well sometimes mistakes are meant to be made."
