Distance

Summary:

Rock notices how Revy is being distant, and strikes up a conversation.

Work Text:

It was just another day at the Lagoon Company. Dutch was busy taking care of business, Benny was tinkering with some new gadgets, and Rock was going through his usual routine of paperwork. Revy, on the other hand, was sitting on a couch, staring blankly at the wall.

Rock noticed her and walked over, trying to start a conversation. "Hey Revy, is everything okay? You seem a bit... distant."

Revy scoffed. "What do you care, shrimp? It's not like you can do anything about it."

Rock frowned. "That's not true. If something's bothering you, I'm here to listen."

Revy rolled her eyes. "Yeah, because that's exactly what I need. A lecture from Mr. Goody-Two-Shoes."

Rock ignored her sarcasm. "Seriously, Revy. What's going on?"

Revy sighed and looked away. "It's nothing. Forget it."

But Rock wouldn't let it go. "Come on, Revy. You can trust me. We're a team, remember?"

Revy hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "Fine. You want to know what's bothering me? It's you."

Rock was taken aback. "Me? What did I do?"

Revy turned to face him. "You're too nice, Rock. Too damn perfect. It's like you don't belong here in this world of blood and bullets."

Rock didn't know how to respond. He had always tried to do the right thing, even in the midst of all the violence and chaos of Roanapur. But he had never thought that his actions could be a source of frustration for Revy.

Before he could say anything, Revy continued. "And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is that I..." She trailed off, unable to finish her sentence.

Rock's heart skipped a beat. "What, Revy? What were you going to say?"

Revy took a deep breath. "I... I think I might have feelings for you, Rock. And it's driving me insane."

Rock's eyes widened. He had never expected Revy to have feelings for him, especially not in a romantic way. But as he looked into her eyes, he realized that he felt the same way.

They both sat there in silence for a few moments, processing what had just happened. Dutch and Benny were too busy to notice the tension in the air.

Finally, Rock spoke up. "Revy, I don't know what to say. I had no idea... I mean, I feel the same way. But what are we supposed to do about it?"

Revy shrugged. "I don't know, Rock. Maybe we can try to make it work. Or maybe we'll just end up killing each other in the end. Who knows?"

Rock chuckled. "Well, I'd prefer the first option, if that's okay with you."

Revy smirked. "Yeah, I think I can handle that."

Dutch and Benny finally noticed the two of them and looked over, confused. "What's going on over there?" Dutch asked.

Rock and Revy looked at each other and then back at their teammates. "Nothing," they said in unison.

But as they turned away, their fingers intertwined, they both knew that something had changed between them. And they were excited to see where it would take them, even if it meant facing even more danger than before.
