Work Text:
The sun was setting over Roanapur, casting a warm orange glow over the city's seedy streets. As usual, the Lagoon Company was holed up in the Yellow Flag, nursing drinks and preparing for their next job. Dutch was barking orders into his phone, while Benny tinkered away at his laptop. And then there was Rock, sitting at the bar, lost in thought.
Revy was leaning against the jukebox, her arms crossed over her chest. She caught Rock's eye and smirked. "Hey, rookie. What's eatin' ya?"
Rock hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I was just thinking about everything that's happened since I joined the Lagoon Company. How we've all been through so much together."
Revy raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, and? You're not getting sentimental on us, are you?"
Rock shook his head. "No, no, it's just...I don't know. It's been a wild ride. And I've been thinking about how much I appreciate all of you."
Dutch ended his phone call and strode over to them. "All right, enough of that touchy-feely shit. We've got a job."
They all piled into the Black Lagoon and set off towards their destination. The job went smoothly enough, and they returned to the Yellow Flag for a round of celebratory drinks.
As the night wore on, the drinks kept flowing and the conversation turned to more personal topics. Benny regaled them with stories of his college days, and Dutch talked about his time in the army. Revy sat quietly, nursing her drink and occasionally interjecting with a sarcastic comment.
Rock watched her from across the bar, admiring the way she held herself. He had always been drawn to her confidence and strength, even if she scared him sometimes.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He got up from his stool and walked over to where Revy was sitting. "Hey," he said, leaning against the bar next to her.
She glanced up at him, her expression unreadable. "What's up?"
Rock took a deep breath. "I just wanted to say...thank you. For everything. You've taught me so much, and I don't think I would have made it this far without you."
Revy's eyes narrowed slightly. "What are you trying to say, Rock?"
He swallowed nervously. "I don't know. I just...I appreciate you. A lot. And I think you're amazing."
Revy snorted. "Yeah, well, don't get too attached. You know how this life is."
Rock nodded, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more there. They finished their drinks and headed back to their respective rooms for the night.
The next few days passed in a blur of jobs and adrenaline. But Rock couldn't get Revy out of his head. He found himself watching her during jobs, studying her movements and the way she handled herself.
And then, one night, they found themselves alone on the deck of the Black Lagoon. The moon was full and the sea was calm.
Revy was leaning against the railing, her eyes fixed on the horizon. Rock took a deep breath and walked over to her.
"Hey," he said softly.
She glanced at him. "What do you want, Rock?"
He stepped closer, until they were almost touching. "I just...I wanted to be near you."
Revy raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
Rock nodded, his heart pounding. And then, before he could think too much about it, he leaned in and kissed her.
It was tentative at first, as if they were both unsure of what was happening. But then Revy's arms snaked around his neck and she pulled him closer, deepening the kiss. Rock's hands found their way to her hips, pulling her tightly against him.
They broke apart, gasping for air. Revy's eyes were dark with desire, and Rock felt a surge of confidence. He leaned in to kiss her again, but this time she pushed him away.
"What the hell are we doing?" she muttered, running a hand through her hair.
Rock frowned. "What's wrong?"
Revy shook her head. "I don't know. This...us...it's not a good idea. We work together, and we could get each other killed. Besides, I'm not exactly the girlfriend type."
Rock took a step back, hurt. "I'm not asking you to be my girlfriend. I just...I want to be with you. And I think you want that too."
Revy looked away. "Maybe. But it's not that simple. We're in a dangerous line of work, Rock. We can't afford distractions."
Rock nodded, understanding. "I know. But...can we at least try? See where this goes?"
Revy hesitated, and for a moment Rock thought she was going to say no. But then she sighed and leaned in to kiss him again.
They spent the rest of the night on the deck of the Black Lagoon, wrapped up in each other. And even though they both knew the risks, they couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, they could make it work.
