Lilith Clawthorne and the great book-burning

Summary:

A fic was requested of me, and who am I to deny that?

Just a silly little fic based on something I mentioned in chapter 11 of Owl wings, Viola strings and Wedding rings!

A teen Lilith Clawthorne was a die-hard fan of a certain book series, until the author was revealed to be a horrible person on the internet! What will Lilith do now?
She'll put her books on a bonfire is what she'll do!

(A short oneshot of the bonfire that Raine describes in chapter 11 of Viowla)

Work Text:

Lilith Clawthorne LOVED a certain novel series. It was all she ever read, and if someone asked about her interests, it was all she would talk about. That and history. Specifically the deadwardian era. But that's besides the point.

How do you think she felt when the author of it was exposed to be a horrible person?

It was a popular series too, so the media had a field day.

But what did Lilith feel?

Rage.

She felt Rage.

One night, while Eda and Raine were hanging out in Lilith's room, she made a decision.

She would burn her books.

When she told Eda and Raine about this, they both got excited. Raine had never put anything on a bonfire before, and they were looking forward to it. Eda on the other hand was ecstatic.

The Clawthorne sisters were what you might call 'pyromaniacs'.

To say they liked fire was an understatement. They loved it. Not in a way to harm people, or creatures.

Fire was like was warm embrace. A dangerous one, but a beautiful one. Something that could fill a soul with such adoration and fear at the same time.

It was decided that the fire would be in a couple of days after school, in a clearing a quarter of a mile from the Clawthorne residence.

Behind the house was miles upon miles of forest, and this particular clearing was perfect for the fire. It was a large enough clearing that no trees would catch on fire, and far enough away from town that nobody would see it.

On the day in question, Lilith had gathered all of her books in the clearing the night before, and Eda helped her set up the wood pile. Then, she cast a protective charm over the clearing, so if it decided to rain, the boiling rain wouldn't affect it, and did school as normal.

The hours seemed to go by so much slower. But it was worth it in the end.

As soon as the bell for the end of the day screamed, Lilith grabbed her stuff and bolted. She then waited on the steps for Eda and Raine to come out together.

Eda always went straight to the bard track homeroom as soon as the bell went so she could walk out with Raine, instead of bolting for the exit like normal. Ever since Raine had joined the school, Eda done this. Her crush on Raine was obvious to everyone but Raine themself. Honestly, Raine's crush on Eda was the same. Obvious to everyone but Eda.

After what felt like hours, but was actually just a minute or two, the pair came out together. Lilith grabbed both of them by the wrists, and ran. The trio ran all the way from Hexside to the Clawthorne house, where they got some juice, and ran off to the clearing to start the fire.

Eda grinned wildly, and Lily did the honours.

With that, the great book-burning started.

It was really beautiful. Really. Lilith stood right infront of the fire, an almost creepily wide grin on her face.

The fire got huge and almost out of control in minutes. It was bigger than Eda, Lilith and Raine stacked ontop of eachtoher. Raine wasn't the tallest witch, but Eda and Lilith were.

Flames danced and crackled. It was a glorious sight. Especially reflecting off of Lilith's glasses to the point you couldn't see her eyes. It made her look ominous. Pages from the books flew around in the air. One that was still burning landed near Raine's foot.

'Chapter 12:

Don't let moments pass along'

Eda stomped on the page with a laugh, and it crumbled. She was laughing wildly. The flames were a very similar colour to her hair. Orange, like a pumpkin. Lilith's was more red.

Lilith squealed. Her thick, curly hair had nearly caught fire. Everything wa fine though. As long as the fire didn't ge-

Oh dear.

It was edging very close the trees. One more move and they might start a forest fire.

Maybe here was a good time to end it.

Lilith swiftly put out the fire with a some water.

Eda complained that they could've waited until it died down, and then stamped it.

Raine laughed. Their first bonfire had been a success.

All three of them stank of bonfire

Lilith turned to face the other two.

"Wasn't that fun!"

Notes:
