Hunter's Journal-Library

Summary:

Hunter goes to a library, and ever one there hates him. He also doesn't know what a dad is.

Notes:

I’m back for another episode of Hunters Journal. This time it's Hunter and Darius so without further ado let's start.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It's Darius week with me. I like going back and forth with staying with Camila and Darius. It's nice going back and forth from the human realm and the demon realm, though I will probably have to choose a realm when school starts.

Anyway I was eating breakfast with Darius and Eberwolf. When we finished I volunteered to do the dishes but Darius said not to worry about it he would do them tonight. I'm still getting used to people doing things for me, or helping with things(that definitely never happened in the castle).

We had to go to the market today to get groceries, which I hate going out in public in the Boling Isles. Everyone looks at me with hatred in their eyes. They think of me as the golden guard and nothing is ever going to change their mind, so as soon as we walked to the market and I saw those eyes I got really nervous.

One of the good things about being sixteen is I don’t have to stay with adults all the time(Unless there are a lot of people somewhere like at the Zoo the other day I don't have a phone so Camila doesn't want me to get lost). As soon as we got to the first stall to buy some griffin eggs I asked if I could go to the library and he said to go ahead.

The library is close to the market, so most grocery shopping days I just head there. To be fair even if i did stay around to get the groceries i probably would be no help and just end up getting a bunch of Hex Mix.

When I walked into the library I immediately went  to the magic section of it and picked up all the books I was interested in, then I decided to walk around and look at the other books.

I checked out the fiction section, which I have no idea why I hate fiction. It's all make believe to me, like i know the stuff could never happen so why would i read it. I did see they had the good witch Azura which Luz and Amity have been trying to get me to read (mainly Luz), so I picked it up to get them to stop bothering me about it.

I somehow ended up in the children section, and was about to walk away when I saw a book that stopped me dead in my tracks.

The title read What is a dad? which was a question I had been wondering about for a while now. I hear people talk about their dads, and it just doesn't make sense to me the way they talk about them, so if I pick this book up maybe I can figure it out. I decided to pick it up and go to check Out. On my way I saw the new book section and saw they made a new Rulers Reach. That is the only fiction book i ever read and liked so i picked it up.

When I got to check out there was a long line, which wouldn't bother me if I didn't have a heavy stack of books in my hands. After what felt like hours I got to the front and put the books down and the dude working looked at me and said with a broad expression “sorry 3 book limit”. I just looked at him and said “but I can read all of these real fast, so you don’t have to worry about them being late”. He looked at me slightly annoyed and said “sorry golden guard…..” Hearing that part hurt me. I hate hearing people call me that. “But its store policy get rid of some of these and get to the end of the line”. I could hear people yelling at me to hurry up so I decided to end the conversation there and just pick the books up and walk away to figure out the ones i wanted to keep.

Honestly he’s one the nieces librarian i've had so far. He at least pretended it was store police, I thought as i saw a woman who was behind me and had way more books then me get through just fine. Most of the time they just ignore me and don’t help me check out until someone out of pity tells them to help me because I had been just standing waiting for an hour and people were starting to get mad(never at them, always at me). One time someone lied to me and said my library card was invalid, which I know is wrong because I literally just got it the day before and it worked fine then and after that happened. One dude straight up took my books and spilled coffee on them and said he couldn’t give it to me because it was damaged. I would tell Darius but I don't want to bother him.

Anyway I finally picked my 3 books. I guid to wild magic (which I had read a million times), The new Ruler Reach book, and the dad book I had seen.

I got back in line, which had gotten longer since last time. Honestly it wasn’t as bad since I only had to hold 3 books. I got to the front and the dude finally let me check out.

I walked to find Darius with the books in hand. I found him outside the Library (he said he had finished an hour ago and was just waiting for me). We walked home and he made dinner. I decided to read while he was cooking. I picked up the dad book because it was the shortest and it would give me some information about that stuff.

When dinner time came I had finished the book, and was left with more questions than answers. I decided to ask Darius the biggest question I had. While we were there I asked “Darius are you my dad”. He spit out his drink out of surprise. A part of me said to stop that this wasn’t going well but i kept going “Like i know we're not related but i read a book about dads and a lot of the stuff sounds like stuff you do with me, but maybe i misunderstood, and…. You know what, never mind it was a stupid question”.  He got out of his seat and I thought for a second he was going to hit me for asking a dumb question, but he just hugged me and said. “I guess I kinda am like your dad, little prince.” I could feel tears on my shoulder which got me to start crying. We were like that for a good solid minutes. Then he finally said “Is that why you were in the library for so long today, because you were reading that?”. I started laughing through the tears “Oh no i read this while you were cooking. The librarian told me they had a 3 book policy which took me like an hour on its own, but the line was long which took me like 30 minutes”.

He looked at me confused and said “but the library doesn't have a number on how many books you can get”. I started laughing again “ Oh I know they only have that rule for me, they have a bunch of rules only for me that's why it usually takes me a while to get out”.

He looked at me angrily and I immediately thought I did something wrong, then I heard him say “Oh hell no” and storm out. I ran after him and saw him going into the library(it was going to close in an hour). He walked right up to the librarian and started yelling at them. I think I heard him say at one point, son, which made me start crying.

They had to call security on us and we were escorted out. On the way back home he said to me “No one is going to treat you that way ever again i promise”. And in that moment I knew for a fact that Darius is my dad and I love him like one.

I love you dad. Hunter signing off.

Notes:

I may have gone a little extreme with this, it was originally just about Hunter not understanding what a dad was but i got a little side track with the library. Hunter is definitely a bookworm, which I am not. Also i can’t stand Non fiction and only read fiction so no hate towards fiction. Until next time byeeeeee.
