The fridge opens, revealing all of the fresh groceries that Kibum had ordered that morning. Minho surveys the contents, until his eyes land on a wrapped block of mild cheddar cheese. He knows exactly what to make now, as he takes the cheese and also a foil packet of salted butter.
Minho shuts the fridge door and walks over to the adjacent counter. There sits the bread bin, containing many different packs of white bread, seeded bread, croissants and tortillas. After briefly considering the options, he takes out the white bread and selects two slices.
Seeded bread is his favourite, but a good grilled cheese needs white bread.
He gets a pan and puts it on the smallest ring of the induction hob. The hob is switched on, and the ring is turned onto medium heat. While the pan heats up, Minho carefully opens the packet of butter and flattens out the foil. He opens a drawer and selects a decently sized knife with a gently serrated blade.
A small square of butter is smoothly sliced off and dropped into the hot pan. It begins to melt and slowly glide along the circumference of the pan's base. Minho picks up the pan and tilts it with his wrist, so that the square of butter circulates and coats the base.
Next, he places the bread slices into the pan and coats each side with a small amount of the melted butter. That will make the bread extra crispy when it's toasted. As the buttered bread sits in the pan, Minho peels open the packet of cheese and gets the knife again. He begins to cut the cheese into thin slices, eventually dividing out enough to sufficiently cover the bread.
One slice of bread is turned around and gently topped with the cheddar slices, and after seasoning with a light smattering of pepper, it is also topped with the second slice of bread. Minho takes the metal spatula from the utensil set and presses softly on the bread, ensuring that the bottom gets evenly toasted.
After a minute or so, Minho slides the spatula under the bread and picks up the whole thing, quickly flipping it over to toast the other slice of bread. He finds the pan lid and places it over the (almost) grilled cheese, ensuring that the cheese is fully melted without burning the bread.
Finally, he turns off the heat and gets a plate, which he empties a bag of chips (crisps if you're nasty) onto, to go with the grilled cheese. And then it's time for Minho to lift the pan lid and bask in the glory of his crispy, melty, cheesey creation. He lifts the grilled cheese onto the cutting board with his spatula, and then cuts it in half diagonally with the serrated knife.
The immaculate grilled cheese is then plated and placed on the counter.
While Minho is searching the fridge for ketchup, Taemin emerges from the depths of his room to the smell of food, swiftly steals a half of grilled cheese, and stuffs his face with chips. Then he runs away, leaving Minho at the crime scene.
