Work Text:
Screaming.
Crying.
Jonathan and Argyle were in the van, Argyle was high as per usual. John wasn’t a fan of the idea of his best friend and boyfriend driving under the influence but knew he probably had before anyway. John should’ve fucking driven. Then all of this could’ve been avoided.
Argyle wasn’t paying attention to the road and accidentally ran into another car, killing himself and the other driver on impact. With Jonathan in the passenger seat, unable to do anything but watch in horror as his boyfriend died before his eyes. The person who made him feel loved, suddenly gone.
He’s reminded of when the two met, about a year ago.
~~
John had recently moved to Lenora, California. He had no friends and no desire to make them. He was in class doing his work when a long haired, strangely dressed person, around his age obviously, walked in.
“Sorry I’m late man, overslept.” They explained to the teacher.
“I guessed. Take your seat.”
They went and sat next to the brunet.
“Hey Brochacho, I’m Argyle, whats your name, dude?”
John awkwardly pointed at himself.
“Who else would I be talking to man; I don’t think there’s any invisible bros around here.” He laughed.
“Jonathan.” He stated quietly and hesitantly.
“Well, its great to meet you, Jonathan.”
How the fuck is he so happy.
“Ever tried weed, bro?”
John all but choked on the air he’d just inhaled.
“You- You just- ask people that?? In class??”
“Well yeah, duh, that’s where we are bro.” he stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“I.. I’ve had it before.”
John spent the rest of that class being spoke at by Argyle, making a few sounds of acknowledgement or small noises that were supposed to mean “Yes”.
He had a small smile on his face that he hoped Argyle hadn’t noticed.
From that day on the two were always talking, mostly Argyle talking, and they eventually got together. Sure, people may say their relationship was built on weed and high thoughts, but that’s just how they liked it.
And now. John’s lost that. The sense of safety he got from Argyle was fucking gone. Just because he let Argyle drive high. Fucking dammit, it’s his fucking fault. He killed his boyfriend. And no one’s going to fucking care because Argyle’s “just a fucking stoner.”
