Chapter Text

There will be one who will be born from darkness and one born from light. One forged in the shadows, and one forged from the laughter of others. The world will be plagued with sickness and disease. On the night of the blood moon, one will come to power to defeat the other, freeing the world from disease. They will be granted the Great Celestial, while the other will be known as The Damned One.

…

Sitting upon his throne, Buer waved around a small wine glass that was barely filled with the liquid. It had been years since his fight with Bezaliel, the one that cursed him to this wretched hell hole [no pun intended]. Oh did his hatred fill the everlasting being of the underworld. He was the one thing keeping this place from collapsing, he had no choice but to continue to hate Bezaliel. Now thinking of it, Buer did not like his glass being so low.

“Patrick, could you refill this please?” Buer called out, holding his glass out for the imp to grab and refill. Patrick ran up and took the glass and came back.

“Here you go, sire.” He responded.

“Thank you.” Buer was one for niceties, he was a good kid once, one who loved playing outdoors and chasing butterflies. All of that was stripped away from him with a blink of an eye, because of a stupid prophecy that a blind prophet told the world. It could have been anyone, but he was chosen, he was picked. Sometimes he only blamed himself. “Why are you still here, Patrick?” Buer asked, looking down to see the imp lingering at the foot of the throne.

“I have a question I would like to ask.” He responded, his tail flicking behind him nervously. Patrick had been working with Buer for years [decades in Hell], it confused him why he would be so nervous.

“Go on.”

“May I go to Earth, sire?”

“Why do you wish to go to Earth? Is there someone you’ve met?” Buer pushed, there should be no reason for imps, who have never been to Earth, to want to go, unless they had already been going. When Patrick didn’t respond, Buer said, “Well?”

“I want to experience it. To live amongst the humans. To understand them. I have read in my studies about the way they act, and they fascinate me.” The imp replied, shuffling his feet.

“Humans.. Fascinate you?”

“Yes, sire.”

Buer wasn’t sure what to answer, yet he knew that if Patrick had the courage to ask, he should grant it. “You can go, only under one condition. Which you must follow if you want to continue to go. Understand?”

“Yes, I understand.”

“You must never, and I mean never, fall in love with a human. There are too many complications, and you will not only hurt yourself but them as well.” Buer was stern, he was not going to mess with the mortal world, that was not his job. He only looked after the ones who died. Bezaliel could deal with this all himself, but if one of his imps was caught on Earth, messing with the humans, there would be hell [again, no pun intended] to pay.

Patrick nodded, “Of course. I promise.”

“Go on, Patrick. I am sure that Tyler has a book that will help you mask your identity.” What Buer meant was Patrick’s red skin, hooves instead of feet, a tail and horns. Patrick gave the Demon a smile before quickly running off to find Tyler. “Don’t get into trouble.” Buer said to no one but himself.

…

Patrick rushed into the archive, which was a giant library filled with books on spells, history, and more. He only came in here for his studies, and sometimes to talk to the other imps and demons. He went to the front desk, and was met with Tyler. Tyler was a fallen angel, but considered himself just a demon, he did not like the idea of being called a “fallen angel”.

“Hey there, Patrick. What brings you in here today?” The dark haired librarian asked, flipping through the small book in front of him.

“Do you have any books on transformation? Specifically for my looks. I want to blend in with the humans.” Patrick asked, leaning onto the counter that separated the two from each other.

“Buer himself is letting you go to Earth?” Tyler asked, raising an eyebrow as he closed his book and folded his hands.

“Surprise to me.” He shrugged. “Do you have one?”

“Somewhere. Stay here, I’ll go find it.” The demon grumbled, pushing himself out of his chair and going to look for the book.

“Will do.” Patrick called out. As he waited, he looked around the library, taking in the surroundings. It was alway busy with students coming in and out, it was calmer right now as it was the weekend and not as many students needed the study rooms. It’d be back to normal come Monday [considering human days]. Moments later, Tyler came back with books in hand.

“I found a few that might suit what you’re wanting to do.” The librarian handed them over the counter. “Here are the pages I believe might be the best help.” He opened the pages and turned them around for Patrick to look at. “I would read them all before trying to cast any spells, we don’t want you in the hospital for some irreversible spell.”

“No thank you.” Patrick breathed. The books contained pictures of all kinds. He looked up and flashed Tyler a warm smile, “Thank you. I’ll return these as soon as possible.”

“Yeah, don’t go losing them, some other idiot might need to go to Earth.”

“Tell them they don’t need to and if they really do, they can wait.” Patrick laughed before picking up the books and waving Tyler goodbye.

Patrick sat in his room, crisscrossed on his bed. The books were spread out in front of him, opened to the pages that Tyler had told him to look at. The words were confusing and the more he looked at them, the more they did not make any sense. He was determined to get to Earth though, so he stared at the pages longer, hoping that somehow it would just transfer to his brain.

“Why don’t you make sense?” Patrick asked himself, settling his head on his hands as he flipped through the pages. Then a page caught his interest. It had a large picture of a human, pentagrams around it and an ancient language around it. “What are you?” He asked out loud to no one. He did not understand the language, which he was angry about but the image was compelling. It felt like it was already telling him what to do.

He slowly climbed out of bed and grabbed whatever he could. He was not in control of his own body, it was as if his brain was hijacked. Soon everything was set around the room. Patrick was astonished about what he had just done. He looked back at the book and the words became clear. He knew what he had to do.

Reading off the words, he paced around the drawing of a pentagram he had made on his floor. This was hell, this was not going to work, these spells were made for the mortal world, yet something was telling him it would work. As he recited the words to himself, he felt his legs shift, his horns sink into his head. He was starting to look more human. Then he passed out.

…

Pete was laying in his bed, messing with the computer he had just bought. He was burning CD’s to sell at the record shop. Surely they wouldn’t realize they were fake, he had been doing it too long for them to realize. Plus, he was making good cash. The CD had some time to download so he climbed out of bed to get somethin g to eat. Both his parents weren’t home, so it gave him time to do anything. Sure, he was 21 and should be out of the house by now but they were so kind to let him stay until he could buy his own place. He wasn’t going to pass up that opportunity.

“Now where is it?” Pete said to himself as he looked through the pantry for something to eat. He realized that his parents hadn’t gone grocery shopping. “For fuck’s sake.” He groaned, shutting the door and walking back into his room. He threw himself onto his bed and watched as the CD downloaded. He would go shopping later if his parents didn’t bring anything back.

BZZZZ

It was his phone. Pete rolled over to grab his phone and answered it. “Mark?”

“Hey Pete.”

“What do you need?”

“So, I actually don’t know. Could you stop by my house?” Mark sounded terrified, which was something Pete was confused about.

“Yeah, let me put on my shoes, I’ll be right there. What’s going on?” He asked, closing his computer, which he hissed at cause the CD was going to reset it’s downloading. He got out of bed and rushed to put on his shoes.

“Some..guy is in my house.”

“Some guy?”

“Yeah. A random dude. Passed out.”

“How the hell did a random dude get into your house, Mark?” Pete questioned, holding his phone between his cheek and shoulder.

“I don’t know. That is why I called you, Pete.” Mark groaned. It sounded like he was pacing the room.

“Did you call the police?” Pete was now grabbing his keys and walking out the door to his car.

“No. Tom was over last night and I do not want to get arrested.”

“I’ll be there in like five minutes.”

“Thank God.”

“Have you tried waking him up?”

“No. I am scared he’s going to attack me and then I’ll be dead on my own floor. Not a way I want to go out.” Pete laughed. “Do not laugh at me, Pete. This is serious. Some unconscious dude is on my floor.”

“Right, sorry.” Pete was stuck at a stop light, he lightly tapped his fingers on his steering wheel as Mark continued to freak out. He decided to drown Mark out, he just wanted to get there as soon as possible.

Pulling into Mark’s driveway, Mark ran out the front door.

“He’s waking up, Pete!” Mark screamed, trying to drag him out of the car.

“Give me a fucking second, Mark, oh my god.” The two of them quickly enter Mark’s house to find the dude sitting up, as if he just woke up from a daze. Mark held up a book and had it out in front of him.

“Whoever you are, what the fuck are you doing in my house?” He questioned.

“What is a book going to do to this guy?” Pete asked, questioning Mark’s weapon choice. He had a whole bunch of time to find a better one, why did he pick a book?

“I don’t know! Maybe knock him out?” Mark sneered, staring at Pete. Pete just shrugged. “Hello?” Mark had turned back to the guy sitting on his floor.

“What…?” The unknown guy voiced, looking around as if he was lost [he was]. “Where am I?”

“In my fucking house.”

“You are?”

“Mark.”

“You’re just going to tell this guy your name?” Pete budded in.

“Shut the fuck up, Pete.”

“Now he knows my name.” Mark flipped Pete off.

“Who are you?”

“My name’s Patrick.”

“And what are you doing in my house, Patrick?” The guy didn’t answer, still trying to get up. He looked drunk, but didn’t sound like it. Was this guy just really fucking weird? “I don’t want to ask again, and I really don’t want to throw this really nice book.”

“You don’t even read.” Pete whispered, which earned him another middle finger, which was rightfully deserved.

“Sorry, I do not know how I got here.”

“Oh, we are going to figure it out.”
