Summary
Thrown out of Qinghe for killing the Captain of the guard, an injured Meng Yao starts on the road to Gusu, only to collapse partway along it. He is found and rescued by Lan Xichen, who, grief-ridden, was just forced to flee Cloud Recesses as the Wen Clan attacked. The two connect as they share a hotel room in a nearby village, but discovering Meng Yao's recent crime puts Lan Xichen in a difficult position. He wonders how he, as the de-facto clan leader of the Lan Clan, can have a male consort at all, let alone a companion who'd just killed an innocent man.
