A Second Chance At Life

Summary:

Loid, Yor and Anya begin to adjust to their new lives in a modern world with no Wise, no Garden and no Secret Police. Just them and their new, bigger, more chaotic family.

Notes:

This will be a short one, but I'm not sure how many chapters it'll be, I'll just go with the flow.

Chapter 1: Loid's Nightmare

Chapter Text

It was dark and Loid could barely breathe, ash and soot filling his lungs. He stood in the rubble and ruins of what used to be Ostania, cradling his daughter's bloody corpse. The sounds of bombs going off in the distance echoed as his ears started ringing.

“Was I foolish to think a war between the east and west could be prevented… Yor?” Loid turned to his fake wife, a desperate look on his face.

She said nothing as she held her side, littered with small pieces of shrapnel. Blood and tears were streaming down her face as she approached Loid.

“Loid… in another life…” She looked up at him with watery eyes. “Do you think… we could be happy, the three of us?” Yor sobbed quietly as she placed a shaky hand on Anya’s head.

“I… I don’t know.”

The two looked at each other while embracing their daughter as the bombs continued to fall, leaving nothing behind.

“-oid!.... Loid!”

Loid shot up from the bed he and Yor shared in a cold sweat, his partner sitting next to him looking concerned.

“Loid, are you alright? You seemed like you were having a nightmare.”

“I… it’s nothing…”

“Loid…” Yor said softly as she scooted closer to her husband, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him into a gentle hug. Placing a soft kiss on his forehead as she laid his head on her chest. “You know you can tell me anything, I’ll always be here for you.”

“It was about… what happened in Ostania. In our past lives…”

“Loid…”

“Do you think Anya still has nightmares about it? I don’t want her to have to go through anything like that ever again. I don’t know if I could bear it…”

Yor cupped Loid’s face in her hands and looked him in the eyes.

“I understand how you feel, I still have nightmares about it too. I want to make the most out of this second chance at life. Anya and I will always be here for you so please don’t try to bear the pain alone.”

“You’re right.” Loid smiled, giving Yor a quick kiss on the lips as she let out a soft chuckle.

“Sometimes I wonder what would have happened to us if Kazuki and Rei hadn’t taken us in. Would we have ended up as beggars?!”

“Now you’re suddenly freaking out…”

“But what are the chances that we were reborn together as the same people with all our memories?! Even Bond is still with us, what if wwe had been separated?! I don’t know what I would do without you guys…”

As Yor continued to panic due to her made up scenarios a loud knock sounded from the other side of their bedroom door before it was thrown open at full force. Two little balls of chaos on the other side, still in their pajamas.

“Mama! Papa! There’s no time for flirting, It’s breakfast time!” Anya announced.

“Breakfast time!” Miri echoed.

The girls jumped up on the bed, Anya landing directly on Loid’s stomach. Miri laughed maniacally as he doubled over in pain.

“Now we have twice the joy in our lives.” Yor chuckled as Loid hobbled out of bed, clutching his stomach.

“I wouldn’t call this joy…”

“Papa! We want omurice!”

“Yeah yeah.”

“It still is a pain getting used to all this new technology. The television is huge and why are there so many buttons on this remote?!” Yor huffed as she fiddled with the tv remote.

“I’ll do it! Papa Kazuki’s gonna be mad if you break the remote again.” Miri said as she hopped off the pink sofa.

“Ah! I’m sorry.”

“Yeah, I’m sure it was a pain to learn a new language as well. Not only are we in the future, but we’re in a completely different country. Though it was child's play for me.”

“Hmph, okay Mr. worlds greatest spy.” Yor joked as Anya tried to hold back her laughter.

“Anya still thinks jap… o… knees is hard.” Anya commented, receiving a few chuckles in response.

After helping Yor with the tv Miri scurried over to sit beside Anya who was watching Loid prepare her favorite breakfast. Loid smiled thinking about how mundane his life had become.

To think not too long ago I was working non stop, trying to prevent a war between the east and west just for it all to go up in flames anyway. I failed to create a world where children don’t have to cry, but… maybe my expectations were too high. War is inescapable, even in this world. Maybe all I ever really needed, all I ever really wanted was a family.

Loid looked up at Yor who was intently watching some family sitcom and softly smiled to himself. He was brought back to reality by Anya tugging at his pant leg, tears welling up in her big emerald eyes.

“Anya… were you reading my mind?”

“Mhm, sorry.”

Loid sighed as he knelt down in front of Anya, patting her on the head.

“It’s okay, you don’t have to apologize.”

“You’re happy here, right Papa?”

“Of course I am, as long as I have you I’ll always be happy.”

“Mama too?”

“Mhm, of course.”

Anya’s usual bright smile returned as she ran back over to the dining table.

“Hurry up papa! We’re starving.”

Loid smiled as he picked up two plates of omurice and placed them in front of Anya and Miri.

“Here you go girls, breakfast is served.”
