Katsuki had never liked his birthday. All the damn attention, all the fawning by his overbearing mother. And just another year of getting older and not being the number one hero. So, he was glad that no one at U.A. knew when it was. He knew that his...sweet as shit, annoying, excitable classmates would make a big ass deal and crap like they had for everyone else. Wanting to throw him a party and give him shit that he didn't need.
He only felt slightly guilty that his boyfriend didn't know when his birthday was.
But of course, when the day came around, it was no surprise that his mother had sent him a big box of gifts. She never fucking listened to him, so it was also not surprising when he got an obnoxious ballon, flying out of the box like it wasn't a bag of spit.
He hated balloons and his mom knew that.
But of course, his birthday was about her and not him, so stupid presents it was. He was glad Aizawa never questioned shit when he had just taken the box from him and ran. Leave it to his mother to mail something and try her best to embarrass him.
Katsuki ran to his room afterwards in a huff, and in the middle of hiding everything in his closet, Eijiro walks in through his open door. God, how stupid was he today?
"Hey, babe! Do you wanna--"
Eijiro stopped in his tracks, tilting his head in confusion and squinting at the box set of manga his mom had sent him that had spilled out of his closet in his haste.
"What's all that, love?”
He felt his cheeks heat, the pull of lying already tugging at his heart.
"Nothing, the hag just sent me some crap."
Eijiro stepped towards him, eyes widening when he saw the balloon popping out, the big glaring words of "Happy Birthday!" on it in green.
He should've just popped it when he got it.
"Kats? Is it your birthday?" His boyfriend asked in a whisper. Katsuki couldn't even look him in the eye, glaring at the traitorous balloon bouncing around in the air instead.
Dammit. So much for--
Eijiro sniffed and Katsuki's heart twisted, and his eyes immediately darted to him. He closed the space between them, giving Eijiro a small kiss on his cheek.
"Shit, Eiji. I'm sorry. I just don't--I didn't not tell you on purpose. I--"
"No! Wait I'm-- babe ! It's your birthday? How wonderful!" Eijiro wrapped his arms around him with a squeeze, kissing his forehead."Oh shit, happy birthday, baby! Aw man! Wow!”
Eijiro kissed him again and again, his cheeks heating as he did so.
"Yeah, yeah. Chill."
"No chilling! It's your birthday, love!"
"You're not upset I didn't tell you?"
"I mean, a little. I'm your boyfriend. You know my birthday." He frowned.
"Sorry. I just don't like celebrating and crap so I didn't mention it."
Eijiro smiled, placing a kiss on his nose, "Aw, that's okay then." His boyfriend kissed him once more, like he couldn't get enough.
"Wanna maybe go out? I'll treat you to dinner!"
"I just said I don't like celebrating."
Eijiro smirked, "Okay, yeah. But, it's not even your birthday. I'm just asking you out on a date."
"Eiji..." he warned.
"What? Do you not wanna go on a date with your boyfriend where he won't buy you a present just cause he feels like it and not because it's your birthday?"
Katsuki rolled his eyes, hell--that stupid smug smile could make him do anything, "Fucking fine. Whatever. But you don't have to buy me anything."
Eijiro clicked his teeth, "I mean, if I just happen to buy you something you can't say anything about it."
"I fucking hate you."
"Aw, I love you more!"
They ended up at the mall, something "not fancy" and "with lots of stores to just browse".
Eijiro was swinging their hands between them, seeming more happy about the fact that it was his birthday than Katsuki himself.
Eijiro led him to a gaming store, taking him to the section for switch games. His boyfriend knew that he'd been talking about a game for a while, and Katsuki sighed.
Eijiro automatically grabbed a copy of a new game that came out. He took it to the cashier without a word, smiling as he did so.
When they left the store, Eijiro handed him the bag with a big, handsome, goofy grin.
"Hey, didn't you want this game? Hmm, you can have it. So not for your birthday." He teased.
Katsuki snorted despite himself, his face breaking out into a smile.
"Thanks, Eij."
"No need to thank me. That's what boyfriends are for, buying you presents at random!"
"You're stupid."
Eijiro treated him to coffee then, a large one he knew he wouldn't finish. Then, he took him to get something sweet, handing him a big cookie that Katsuki insisted they split in half.
Finally, they got hungry enough to go get something to eat from the small food court the mall had upstairs. Eijiro came back with all his favorites, tapping his nose before he sat and told him to dig in.
Looking over at his handsome, too sweet for his own good, boyfriend--sitting there munching on whatever meat he got, Katsuki realized he hadn't stopped smiling all day.
His heart overflowed, thinking about how damn lucky he was to get to love someone so much.
That his boyfriend was doing all these things, all because he loved him. Making sure that he was happy, putting on this joke that it wasn't his birthday just to make him feel better.
He didn't know how the hell his boyfriend put up with him. Didn't know how he managed to be able to take care of the heart of someone as loving and considerate as Eijiro.
Katsuki reached over to grab his hand to place a kiss on his knuckles, then leaned forward to brush off the crumbs on his cheek.
"Love you." He whispered.
"I love you more, Kats." Eijiro beamed. What utter bullshit. Katsuki loved him more than he could even comprehend.
When they walked back to the bus stop to go back to the dorms, Eijiro stopped them to kiss him so sweetly.
"Hope you had a good date."
Katsuki shook his head, "You can stop with that crap, dummy."
"You sure?" Eijiro placed a kiss on his head, intertwining their fingers together to lead him to the open bus door.
"I'm sure. And, thanks. I had a great day, Eiji."
Eijiro's eyes teared up a little, "I'm glad, love. You deserve it."
The common room was full when they came back to the dorms, Denki automatically running towards them with a frown.
"There you guys are! Where have you been since after school?"
Katsuki's stomach dropped.
"Oh, we just felt like going out." Eijiro said.
Katsuki didn't know he could fall even more in love.
"Ooo whatcha buy?" Denki asked, eyeing the bag he had.
"Ei got me a new game we've been wanting to play." He bragged. His boyfriend was thoughtful as hell and he wanted to rub it in Denki's face, just a little.
"Aw man, I wish I had a boyfriend who would buy stuff for me." Denki whined. "Can I watch you play it?"
He wanted to say no, but hell. Why not?
"Sure," He shrugged.
"Aw really! Cool! Your dorm?"
Ah well shit. The fucking presents.
"Nah, my dorm. I got a bigger TV than Kats."
"Fuck off, no you don't."
"Yeah I do!" Eijiro winked.
"Whatever. Your dorm then."
Eijiro told Denki to give him ten minutes, saying he wanted to change.
They both went to his dorm, Eijiro tossing him one of his hoodies and giving him a sweet, soft, kiss.
Denki came with Sero in tow, of course, both of them more than excited to watch him play.
Eijiro smiled at him as they all settled, getting close to where he was sitting on the floor and wrapping an arm around his waist.
"Happy not birthday, Tsuki." He whispered before placing a kiss on his cheek.
"Thanks." He whispered back.
Katsuki may not like his birthday. But, with Eijiro by his side, treating him like he was the most precious person in the world, he sure as hell loved his not birthday.
