Summary:

It's the classic story really. Girl meets boy. Boy takes girl into space. Girl gets pulled into a life of crime. You know how it is!

Chapter Text

You're wandering the docks on Persephone when the girl accosts you. Well. Accosts is a strong word, especially when she's so friendly about it. Apprehends maybe? Hell, you'll go with approaches.

You're wandering the docks when the girl approaches you.

"You goin' our way?" She asks, all wide smile and big eyes drawing you in.

"That depends. Which way are you going?"

She shrugs, smile still bright. "Whichever way you're going."

You pause to look her over. She's not the usual type of barker. She's too perky amongst the throngs of pushy shouting men, with an expression so open and honest you just want to trust her with your life. Which you might just be doing when you grin back and seal your fate.

"How funny! I'm going that way too."

Kaylee talks your ear off about her ship ("none so beautiful in the whole 'verse!") and introduces you to the crew as they wander back from whatever they've been doing planet-side.

First there's Wash and Zoe, seeming like the epitome of 'opposites attract' as one offers you a goofy grin and the other a business-like nod. Then a medic, Simon, followed by a Shepherd. Weird addition for a ship that Kaylee assures you is definitely not spreading religion to the masses. Jayne is next, a gruff looking man who gives you a lecherous look and has no discernable job onboard.

"An this here is our captain, cap'n Reynolds!"

The captain graces you with a nod eerily similar to Zoe's and then immediately disregards you to address Kaylee.

"She it?"

You bristle a little but say nothing.

"Yessir, competitions somethin' fierce today. She's the best though!"

"Best in my books is them as can pay."

You can't help but chime in at the implied insult. "She can pay Captain, don't you worry."

He turns back to you and gives you an appraising once over. "Welcome aboard then. We take off in 20."

Not the best first impression you've ever made, but you suppose you've made worse too. Besides, captaining must be stressful. Maybe that's why he's acting like a bit of a húndàn.

Notes:

Húndàn = overlord or despot
