It's funny what absentmindedness will make someone miss, like how he doesn’t scoot back into his own corner, the way his eyes linger on your blushing cheeks or the way his lips part on the rim of his glass as though the look of you has sent his mouth dry, or how those eyes flicker down to your hands, squeezed between exposed thighs just to give them something to do, riding up that fabric just a little bit higher. You don't see any of that, of course. Why would you? Caught up in your own performance of adulthood and femininity, and sexual insecurity hiding behind the overbearing desire for empowerment, you miss much.
