Between books and roses

Summary:

It was his day off and even if he wished to spend it in the calm and warmth of his library at home... he wasn't that lucky.
Being dragged around by Sonoko Suzuki wasn't how he had wanted to spend his day and the girl's behavior was just making it even worse for him.
Good thing that Kaito is always there to save his boyfriend whenever he needs it!

Notes:

Hello! :D Here I am with another Kaishin for you all nwn

This actually was inspired by a festivity here in Spain called: Sant Jordi (or Saint George for you all) which we celebrate by giving a loved one (friend, family or lover) a rose and/or a book (since it's the same day as the international book day 23/04). So, Sant Jordi it's actually based of a fairytale of sorts: a princess is kidnaped by a dragon and is rescued by a knight. A rose grows from the dragon's blood after its defeated and the knight plucks it and gives it to the princess in a show of his devotion and love for her.
And well, I grew up hearing that story and we actually have writting contests in school for this date and once I became old enough and started writing fanfics about my favorite ships I couldn't help but think about Kaito and Shinichi when it became to this time of the year >/////<

So, I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did when I wrote it (and now translate it) (=^w^=)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

… by your side.

A brown-haired male of barely 19 years old was in his precious sanctuary, seated in a comfortable brown leather armchair. He was reading enraptured one of his favorite books, passing his sapphire eyes through each page in a meticulous way. Everything was quiet, allowing him to concentrate at ease, drinking from time to time from the cup that contained his elixir of life, his beloved and irreplaceable coffee.

Or at least it was the atmosphere he craved to achieve which his phone seemed to want to avoid by ringing every few seconds insistently. And it wasn't just the one at his house, but his cell phone hadn't stopped ringing all morning either. It was barely ten o'clock and he felt that he would not last like this all day. He lost the will to live every time he heard that annoying noise.

After three hours, since the damn device began to bother him at seven in the morning, his head and patience couldn't take it anymore. Angry beyond measure, he disconnected the line and blocked the number on his mobile to prevent them from calling again. Knowing perfectly well who was the annoying person that did not let him rest on his long-awaited day off.

Seriously, he would rather be the victim of a deadly poison a thousand times than have to deal with that woman. She was even worse than his parent when she wanted to and that day it seemed that was her intention, so he had locked himself in his beloved library wanting to spend the day surrounded by the countless of mystery books that it stored.

He had even made sure to close all the doors and windows to prevent any unwanted visitors from disturbing his rest, but even in the confines of his precious refuge he could still hear the annoying sound of the devices ringing. That is why he had no other option than the previous one.

He knew that his cell phone couldn't be turned off, not if they called him from the police station about a case, but at least he had stopped her from insisting, so at least he had gotten rid of a problem.

With a better mood he continued with his reading and his lunch, drinking from time to time. It was in one of those moments when he almost choked with fright after hearing a blearing noise coming from nearby. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw his beloved oak door, impeccably cared for, crash to the ground with a loud bang.

Amidst the dust that the heavy object kicked up on impact, a young woman with short, light brown hair glared at him with palpable fury in her slate-colored eyes.

-Can I know why the hell you don't answer the phone?! –she exclaimed exalted.

-What's your fucking problem?! You can't enter someone else's house like that! –he yelled once he recovered from the stupefaction that the whole situation had produced in him.

-If you had answered when I called, this wouldn't have happened! –she replied, crossing her arms.

-And didn't you think that if I didn't do it, it was because I didn't want to be bothered?! What the hell do you have in your head?! –He spoke furiously, feeling his skin bristle with the fury that overwhelmed him.

She just stood there and raised an eyebrow, unmoved by the obvious anger of the young man in front of her. Her arms still cross in front of her chest.

-I made it very clear to you that today you would accompany me whether you wanted to or not. However, after seeing your stubborn behavior you left me no choice but to take you by force. –she explained as if that were the most obvious idea in the world while inspecting her painted nails with indifference.

-That... is still no reason to destroy the doors of my house. –he growled, rubbing his temple tired by the illogical reasoning of the brunette.

-Don't be so exaggerated. We only forced this door open, the one at the entrance was not necessary. –she commented smiling with superiority, a gesture that increased when the brown-haired man looked at her blankly and she showed him the key that she hid in her pocket.

The young man's expression went from incomprehension, to surprise, and finally settled into a defeated pout.

-I should have taken the key from Ran. –he muttered dejectedly. – Why the hell do I have to come with you? –he steered the conversation back to the original topic as he crossed his arms, his little entertainment forgotten on the table beside him.

-Because you're the only one I know who has an almost insane fascination for reading. –she replied without even thinking about it.

-You're exaggerating. –He whined in a childish tone of voice at the accusation.

She looked at the two-story library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves on each wall, then back at him before rolling her eyes and shaking her head.

-I'm not going to stay here arguing with you and wasting time. –she declared to start dragging him towards the exit.

"When the hell did she get so close to me?" thought surprised the young man who did not understand that almost teleportation ability that the black-eyed one had.

-If you're worried about the door, I already have that covered. They'll fix it while we're out. –she assured him proudly when they were already leaving the mansion.

One of the butlers did the detective a favor by handing his things to the detective, such as the house keys, wallet and cell phone, when he noticed that his young mistress hadn't given him a chance to take anything and the one with blue eyes thanked him with a slight smile and a nod.

They walked, although in his case it was rather dragged, to the main street and they arrived at the bookstore relatively quickly, well for him the trip seemed like an eternity because she didn't stop talking. It almost seemed like she didn't even stop to pick up air and so much talk was causing him to get a huge migraine. He massaged his tired temple and sighed with relief when they entered the well-known, for him, establishment. He breathed in the so pleasant aroma of books and instinctively his body relaxed as a slight contented smile settled on his face and his eyes sparkled with excitement, the anticipation growing within him to see what treasures could be hidden in that place.

Unfortunately, his little world of happiness full of books and coffee was destroyed when the shrill voice of the young woman next to him called out to him.

-Hey, are you listening to me?! –she exclaimed looking at him with clear annoyance.

-Don't yell so much, I can hear you perfectly. –he growled and sent an apologetic look to the young saleswoman who looked at them nervously and not sure if she should intervene or not.

-It's your fault for not answering. –she muttered, snorting in disgust.

-That's because you're a pain in the ass. –he whispered under his breath; his teeth clenched at the girl's tantrum. “Seriously, what does she have? Five years?" he thought with a dismissive roll of his eyes.

-Did you say something? –she inquired with a raised eyebrow.

-Just tell me what you're looking for so we can leave as soon as possible. –he demanded, ignoring the young woman's question.

It's not that he didn't want to spend more time in that wonderful place, it was just that he wouldn't be able to put up with her attitude for too much longer. The place was magnific, but his companion was clearly not.

-Mmmm… I don’t know! I want it to be something that Makoto-kun likes, but I have no idea what he likes to read and I don't know much about books either... that's why I brought you with me! –she spoke laughing carefree and almost proud of herself and her good judgment in bringing him with her.

On the other hand, that response caused a vein to swell on the temple of the sapphire-eyed man who clenched his fists to try to calm down and not yell at her or strangle her since she managed to drive him crazy with almost superhuman speed and ease.

-You have no idea what kind of books he likes to read? –He questioned, after processing her words and when she shook her head, he gritted his teeth and snorted, turning around.

Frustrated he began to look at the different shelves in search of something that caught his attention, ignoring with all his might the comments of “no mystery, murder fanatic”, “Oh a cosmetics magazine, I need a new lipstick!”, "Do you think Makoto-kun would like to see me in this dress?" and more comments like that.

Honestly, her ability to concentrate is practically nil.” he thought, clenching his teeth to prevent the insults that accumulated in his mouth from escaping.

The clerks and other customers alike looked at him sympathetically as the rich young woman, clearly evident from the girl's demeanor, rejected every one of his suggestions as she continued to make disparaging comments about his recommendations, then went back to rambling things that had nothing to do with what they were there for.

Many of them felt respect for his great patience and self-control because if they were the victims of such an annoying woman, they would definitely have snapped the minute she started talking.

Time went by and it seemed that he was stuck in an infinite loop, not seeing a way out to end all this tedious task that he honestly did not want to do from the beginning. He knew that his luck was usually poor, but he didn't think he deserved such torture.

They had already been searching for 4 hours and, although normally it would not bother him to spend so much time in an establishment of this nature, the brunette’s company was getting on his nerves. In addition to his sour mood, his stomach was growling demanding food since it was already two in the afternoon and he hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast. He just wanted to go home and lock himself back in his library surrounded by the long-awaited and beloved silence, one that he missed more than ever at that moment.

They entered the fifth bookstore they visited that day, but the result was the same no matter what kind of place they were.

He sighed and looked at the poor owner of the establishment who was the victim of the claims of the young woman who complained about the smallness of the place, that it was very dark, that the books he sold was scarce, boring and very similar to each other, all of this without even having watched two titles in a row.

Honestly, he felt very sorry for that man who could not say a word because the young woman continued with her monologue without paying attention to his attempts to speak, who continued trying to be courteous and polite despite the verbal abuse that was freely directed at him.

He knew he had to do something to help him, but a part of him was glad that he wasn't the one to suffer because of the black-eyed woman, at least not for a while, because his patience was reaching its limit and he would surely end up exploding if she directed a single word to him at that moment.

He turned his attention to the shelves to his left. It is true that the place was small compared to the ones they had previously visited, but it was to be expected since the rest were stores in the center, where people passed by every day and in large numbers, where they promoted new books.

On the other hand, this establishment was more of a sanctuary to old and out-of-print books, more secondhand and not fresh off the press, where a book lover or collector would go if they wanted to find something unique. In short, it was the type of perfect place for him, so he dedicated his time to looking at each of the titles carefully and if there was one that caught his attention, he took it delicately as if it were made of the finest crystal and could be shattered so quickly just by touch it.

His eyes sparkled with excitement with each one of them and he undoubtedly imagined himself reading them in the comfort of his home, but he knew that he couldn't buy them all and having to decide on one was costing him horrors. It was at that moment that he caught a glimpse of something that made his eyes widen in surprise and disbelief.

He couldn't fit the stupefaction he felt, not believing what he was holding in his hands. It was a first edition of his beloved Sherlock Holmes! With his whole body trembling like jelly and holding back the scream full of euphoria that overwhelmed him, he sighed trying to calm the accelerated beating of his heart.

-Shinichi, we’re leaving! –he heard someone shouting at him and he turned to see the brunette who was looking at him angrily. Behind her was the owner sighing, he didn't know if it was from exhaustion or relief, but he supposed it was both.

-But... –he wanted to say something, looking at the book in his hand and back at her doubtfully.

He didn't want to leave it there, but he knew that that poor gentleman had put up with his companion for too long already. A pitiful little moan filled with disappointment involuntarily escaped his throat as he slowly moved the small object to the shelf where he had previously stood. Anyone who saw him would think that he was a helpless and fragile little animal who was mistreated because of his downcast expression.

He began to walk with his head down and dragging his feet, moving away as slowly as possible from that wonderful discovery. He wholeheartedly hoped that whoever bought it would value the treasure he would have in his hands.

-Hurry up! –she ordered, throwing a tantrum at having to spend more time in that horrible place, in her opinion, without paying attention to the depressive behavior of the young man.

-Hmmm... if you want, I'll buy it for you. –someone commented behind his back and he widened his eyes surprised when he recognized the bearer of that deep and silky voice.

He turned around quickly seeing a brown-haired male, his hair style in a sexy disarray, a little taller than his person and amethyst eyes looking at him with an amused smile while he held the object in question with his right hand.

-Kai! –exclaimed the detective who without thinking jumped to hug the other boy, who let out an amused chuckle at the same time as he hugged the shorter male around the waist.

-Are you happy to see me or because I’m going to buy you the book? –he questioned mockingly.

The arms around his waist tightened a bit, but without being uncomfortable or painful. It was just the right amount of pressure to make him feel comfortable and safe. He loved being inside the magician’s arms like that. Which he didn’t admit out loud, but wasn’t necessary to either because the brunette knew perfectly since they had been dating for more than a year now and, the little sights full of happiness and the way he would relax every time this happened were the most obvious signs of how he truly felt about it.

-I thought you wouldn't come back until next week... –the shorter one murmured against his chest as he relaxed when he felt the other’s strong arms surrounding him firmly and the characteristic smell of roses emanating from the magician’s body.

-I wanted to surprise you, but when I went home it was full of people working throughout the mansion and there was no trace of you. –Kaito commented, looking sweetly at how the brunette snuggled into his chest, also taking the opportunity to sink his nose into his hair and sniff that wonderful aroma of coffee and citrus that he had missed so much.

-Sonoko broke down the library doors and then dragged me out with her. –Shinichi complained, looking up into the magician's bright amethyst eyes and pouting adorably.

The magician smiled tenderly at the cute and childish act of his boyfriend, an attitude that he only showed in front of his person, which made him immensely happy. He felt his heart melt every time he saw how much the detective trusted and loved him. He swore to himself to always treasure the shorter male since he was sure that there was no other person in this world that was more perfect than the detective for him.

-That's what they told me. I knew that being your day off you wouldn't have wanted to go out, not voluntarily, unless you were called in for a case, which I made sure wouldn't happen since I spoke to the inspector about it... –he mentioned changing his expression to a malicious one, only to then frown. –... I even spoke with Mouri-chan and Hatori about it, but apparently, I didn't notify the right people. –he growled annoyed because his long-awaited meeting with his beloved blue-eyed lover had not happened as he had imagined when he did not find him in the house, where he was supposed to be.

The detective laughed when he heard him throw a tantrum, having known for a long time that the magician did not like it at all when his plans did not turn out as planned. In addition, that he was pleased to know how much his boyfriend had worked so that his day off was a calm one, although it could not be so because of the brown-haired girl.

-It's okay Kai... with the intention is more than enough... plus I love that you came looking for me. –he whispered, smiling shyly at him and with a blush covering his cheeks. The aforementioned also smiled and kissed his forehead sweetly.

-I will always go look for you Shin-chan... besides that my job is to get you out of any situation that makes you suffer. –Kaito spoke with his voice and gaze impregnated with care and love.

It was pretty obvious to anyone with eyes how head over heels he was for the young detective. He would give the other the world if he asked for it.

-Thank you... I couldn't take so much nonsense and unreasonable demands for much longer. –Shinichi thanked him, sighing tiredly after remembering the situation he had gotten himself in because of the rich woman.

-Are you okay, Shin-chan? –the magician asked, his voice full of worry when he saw how he was massaging his temple and frowning slightly.

-Yeah... it's just that I didn't sleep very well and now I have a huge migraine because of her. –the brunette replied, smiling softly at the taller teen, wanting to calm him down.

-Shinichi... –the other said reproachfully, not liking that answer at all.

-It wasn't my fault... –he quickly excused himself, fidgeting inside the taller’s arms. –... I got back almost at five in the morning and since it's hard for me to fall asleep when you're not around, I've simply gotten used to not sleeping much... besides Sonoko started calling at seven in the morning so... –He stopped when he processed what had come out of his mouth and covered his face horrified and embarrassed beyond measure.

Without realizing it, he had confessed to his boyfriend one of the things he least wanted him to know. He knew that if he told him that when he went on tour for more than a week, he had trouble sleeping, his wonderful, thoughtful, and doting boyfriend would almost 100% decide that he couldn't go out of the country to perform, which the young detective couldn't let it happen.

The one with amethyst eyes was one of the best magicians who had walked the earth and it was his dream to succeed in what he loved the most, so he could not bear that because of him the dreams and goals of the most important person in his life did not came true. That was something he would never forgive himself for. He could never get over being a hindrance in his partner's career. Kaito was very talented and he wanted everyone to know it because there was no one more dedicated than the one with amethyst eyes.

After all, Kaito loved magic and Shinichi loved him and wanted to support him in his dreams. However, Kaito also loved Shinichi and would do anything to guarantee his happiness and well-being, even if it meant leaving magic altogether.

That’s why the detective had kept all of it as a secret, something just himself knew, but now the cat was out of the bag and he didn’t know what his boyfriend would do with the information he now had. He averted his eyes from the taller male, feeling nervous and unsure about what was going to happen next.

For his part, the young magician looked at him as surprised as he could be when he found out something that his boyfriend had clearly not wanted to confess beforehand and, judging by his obviously alarmed and mortified face, he concluded that he had not the slightest intention of telling him in the future either.

Now that this information had entered his brain, he understood many things that he had not been fully aware of before. It is true that he had noticed that sometimes when he returned from one of his tours, he would find his partner tired and somewhat haggard, but he always assumed that it was because of the large number of cases in which he worked, since the luck of his beloved detective was lousy and it didn't matter where he went that a corpse always crossed his path. And since he had not told him anything that contradicted his assumptions, he simply let it pass and dedicated himself to taking care of him when he was with him.

He now knew how wrong he had been. It never crossed his mind that the brunette practically didn't sleep because he couldn't if his person was not by his side in bed. On the one hand, he liked that because it showed that his presence was more than important to the smaller one, it meant how much he needed and missed him, how much his presence affected him, but on the other hand, he was greatly concerned that his health would be endangered by it. He was feeling quite divided in his emotions and thoughts at the moment.

-Kaito? –He heard his boyfriend call him uncertainly and he realized that he had spent too much time lost in his thoughts and the lack of reaction was worrying the detective.

-You know… I think we're going to go home, order something to eat and we'll spend the afternoon quietly in bed, what do you think about it? –He suggested tightening his grip on the other's waist, after all he had not let go of his partner at any time during the conversation and he didn’t plan to do it for as long as he could either. Having the detective pressed against his body was a pleasure on itself.

-Oh! Are you sure? –Shinichi inquired, feeling a mix of confused and concerned after hearing the other’s proposal. He hadn’t expected the magician to say something like that, not after what he confessed to him earlier and how long it took for him to react and tell him something.

-Shin-chan... I've missed you so much and right now the only thing I want is to spend the rest of the day enjoying your company... –he assured caressing his partner's slightly colored cheek with his right hand. –... Tomorrow we'll talk about you having trouble sleeping without me. –he warned him in a serious tone of voice before he smirked and his eyes shone with a tinge of mischievousness when his boyfriend just nodded nervously and turned his face avoiding looking into his eyes, surely so he wouldn't notice his blush. Which didn’t happen. The magician had seen it perfectly and loved the reaction his lover had because of him.

Shinichi really is the cutest and most adorable being in the entire world.” he thought to himself, seeing with an enthralled look the embarrassed attitude of his boyfriend, something different from the usual security and confidence he exuded, thus demonstrating how much he had let him into his life, heart and mind.

-Can you tell what's going on here?! –exclaimed a stupefied brunette who had witnessed all the exchange of words between the two boys, breaking the small bubble in which, they had submerged themselves in.

Kaito huffed and rolled his eyes, separating a bit from his lover and looked her way with a deadpan expression. Shinichi giggled a bit at his boyfriend’s behavior, liking how upset the other was after having their moment interrupted so rudely.

-I just came to pick up my boyfriend who I haven't seen in three weeks and I'm taking him home so we can spend time together. After all, I think he has already waisted too much of his day off with you. –the magician explained with a smile on his face, but contrary to what would be expected there was nothing friendly in his eyes or in the sharpness of his words, showing how irritated he was because she had dragged his partner around without the detective’s consent.

-Boyfriend?! But what about Ran?! –she spoke, confused and a little nervous because of the annihilating look that the boy named Kaito was giving her... if looks could kill, she would be miles underground, besides the black aura that the young man gave off was truly terrifying.

-I already told you that Ran is like my sister. I've been going out with Kaito for more than a year now and of course I introduced them both. –the detective answered the question while he rolled his eyes tiredly.

Seriously, that girl did not listen to others at all because he and his childhood friend used to talk a lot about the young magician. Shinichi had met Kaito on his eighteen birthday, kind of thanks to Ran, but that was besides the point, and they started dating almost eight months later, around Christmas time. So, it had been a year and four months since they officially started going out, but it was clear that Sonoko had never actually paid attention to anything concerning him or his love life beside being fixated on the idea that Ran and him should start dating each other.

Seriously, he could not understand how an angel like his almost sister was able to put up with her on a daily basis, although he supposed that it would be precisely because of that infinite patience and kindness that the young karateka possessed that this was possible.

On the other hand, now that they were all studying in college, it was true that they didn't have much time to meet up and hang out with each other, spending time chatting and catching up on everything. He was sure that this also had an influence on the girl’s friendship, given how little time Ran had to spare she probably didn’t mind that the light-haired brunette talked nonstop about nothing but herself.

For his part, it was already too difficult to combine work with university to have more of a social life. For God’s sake, he hardly saw Kaito even though they lived in the same house! So, if he had to choose one person to spend his free time with, it was totally going to be his boyfriend a thousand times over. The magician was busy enough on his own too, and he also always put spending time with him as a priority to anyone else so, it was obvious he would do the same.

He didn’t care about how much Hatori complained about it. He already saw the Osakan too much for his liking with them working on a lot of cases together as well as having the same lectures at college.

-Oh! But I thought that... –she stammered having trouble assimilating the situation.

-You heard what he said. Now if you'll excuse us, we're leaving. –The young magician announced, fed up with the entire situation, as he hugged his boyfriend's waist with his right arm before gently leading him in the same direction the woman and the clerk stood up.

In his other hand, he was holding the book that had caught his boyfriend’s attention before. The older man, seeing the boy's intentions, simply shook his head while a happy smile formed on his face.

-You don't have to pay for it, boy... I'm already happy enough to know that its owner will take good care of it... –he told Kaito who looked at him with surprise in his eyes. – Besides, the fact that he put up with the young woman for so long deserves a prize. –the man added, winking at the pair playfully.

Both magician and detective grimaced a bit after hearing those last words. Shinichi actually felt kind of bad for leaving the clerk to fend off by himself at Sonoko’s complaints full of harsh and rude words. It was obvious that the man had suffered the longest fifteen minutes of his life because of her and was genuinely happy at the idea of her leaving and not coming back.

So, the blue-eyed one was going to protest, not wanting to take advantage of the situation, but his lover just thanked the older man before Shinichi could even open his mouth and almost dragged him towards the exit, not giving him a chance to complain, even shutting him up with a quick kiss when he tried to open his mouth once more.

Embarrassed, the detective lowered his face a bit, trying to hide the rosy color of his cheeks as he walked down the street. Kaito chuckled amused at how cute his boyfriend truly was, but decided not to comment on it. He simply held the other’s hand in his and intertwined their fingers. Shinichi hummed and tightened his hold on his hand a bit in answer which made the amethyst-eyed male smile broadly, his heart fluttering excitedly in his chest.

And it was in this way that they disappeared through the busy streets in the direction of their home. They cared little about having left the black-eyed woman alone and stupefied, because that day belonged to the both of them and they wanted to spend it with each other, to make up for those days in which they could not see or touch each other.

Nothing else mattered to them, but the one person they loved the most which was Shinichi for Kaito and Kaito for Shinichi. They truly did love the other more than anything in the world. And it was totally fine with the both of them.

It was already late at night and they had decided to watch a mystery movie after having spent the afternoon talking between one nap and another on the bed in the room they shared, holding each other without letting go at any time. Now they were curled up on the sofa, both covered with a thin blanket and a drink for each of them, coffee for the mystery lover and hot chocolate for the illusionist who adored the sweet as opposed to his partner who was not very fond of that flavor.

Shinichi was with his head resting on the taller man's shoulder who was caressing his hair sweetly while they both stared at the TV screen intently.

-Now that I think about it... what did the Suzuki heiress want from you? –Kaito questioned curiously.

The blue-eyed man snorted from his position, causing a shiver to run through the other's body caused by the hot puff of air that hit his sensitive neck, while the brown-haired one snuggled closer against the other's body.

-Apparently a couple of weeks ago she traveled to Europe, I don't remember exactly where, and there on April 23 is celebrated the day of the book and Saint George where couples, friends and families give each other a book or a rose... She was moved and dragged me from bookstore to bookstore in search of a good gift for her boyfriend. –He growled annoyed when he remembered what he had suffered because of the rich young woman's whim.

-Mmm... a day dedicated to literature and roses... I think I like it. –the magician murmured watching with an amused smile as his partner looked up with his sapphires full of surprise.

-You're kidding, right? –the detective questioned incredulously.

-Nope. Don't you think it's a perfect day for us? You know, a lover of reading and one of roses. –Kaito commented, smiling sideways and winking mischievously.

-Kaito... –Shinichi whined while letting out an amused giggle.

Kaito’s eyes had a twinkle in them that made it pretty clear how funny he found the entire situation. He hummed and looked thoughtful for a couple of seconds before meeting Shinichi’s curious gaze.

-Although, I don't need a day to give you a book and a rose when I can do that whenever you want... so if that's what you wanted, I would offer you both every day of my life. –he spoke with his voice impregnated with love at the same time that he took one of the detective’s hands in his and raised it to his lips, proceeding then to tenderly and chastely kiss the back of it.

-You idiot... I don't need our house to become a flower shop. –the brunette whispered embarrassed, feeling how the red accumulated on his cheeks making them burn.

The magician's eyes sparkled when he heard the word “our” and let out an amused chuckle too, still not letting go of his boyfriend’s hand.

-But you won’t say anything about the books? –Kaito inquired, entertained.

His words caused the detective’s cheeks and ears to blaze and become even hotter, the pretty red color taking most of his silky and soft skin which the magician loved to see. After seeing the smirk on his face, Shinichi pouted adorably and hit the other’s head slightly.

-Don’t be silly... –he huffed, looking away from his lover for a bit in fake angriness. – Although, I admit that I like how attentive you are and the gifts you give me. However, I prefer when they are spontaneous... it wouldn't mean anything special or be as fun if every day was the same. –he admitted smiling shyly at his boyfriend who beamed at him after hearing those words come out of the detective’s mouth.

-Shin-chan… –Kaito murmured, eyes sparkling with love and tenderness.

-Besides... waking up next to you is already a gift for me. –Shinichi whispered hotly in his ear, which made his partner shudder.

-Hmm... you're absolutely right. –the magician agreed in a low tone of voice.

Then he pushed him until they were lying on the soft furniture, he on top of the detective who gave a little surprised yelp and looked at him wide-eyed at the sudden act. The taller man looked at him with eyes brimming with warmth that immediately melted and relaxed his body.

-I give thanks to lady Luck every day for having you by my side. Because you are the best thing that has happened to me in my life Shin-chan... you are a friend, a confidant, a brother... You are the love of my life, the person whom I do not want to lose for anything in the world, who makes waking up each day make sense... You mean so much to me that I don't think I have enough time to express everything I feel for you, not with one life, but I still want to try and that's why there is nothing I want more than to spend what remains of my existence with you. –he confessed without taking his eyes away from the widened sapphires his lover possessed.

After seeing the determination and honesty shining brightly on the amethysts that he loved so much. The blue-eyed man felt like he was short of breath, his heart raced and beat wildly while his eyes watered at hearing such moving words addressed to him. Seeing himself unable to utter anything coherent, something that always happened to him when he was with the older man in such situations, he hugged him by the neck and kissed him with passion and love.

There were so many things he wanted to say, so many feelings and emotions that the amethyst-eyed one provoked in him, but he didn't even know where to start. He knew that this young man who had accepted him unconditionally, the one who looked at him as if he were the most precious thing in the world, was the one with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. He had no doubt who was the luckiest here. It was him because for him Kaito is the most wonderful being that existed and he couldn't thank the Gods enough for the fact that they had met and he was the one who had taken possession of the magician’s heart. Just like Kaito stole his and decided to keep it too.

-I love you Kaito. –the detective whispered softly between kisses.

-And I love you too, Shinichi. –the taller male answered, smiling at him tenderly as he wiped the tears that ran freely down the boy's face with his lips, savoring the salty substance that was indicative of how happy the other was.

He loved to see each and every one of the expressions and emotions that he managed to provoke in his partner, who let him be a spectator without masking any of them at all, demonstrating the trust that he had in him.

This is how they spent their time, between kisses, caresses and whispers full of love and kindness, forgetting everything around them, nothing reaching their ears because both lovers had been lost in their own world for a long time now.

…… The End……
