Morning Routine

Summary:

Sam and Darlin fluff as they get ready for the day <3
~~~~
"Darlin stepped out of their bedroom to the smell of coffee and frying bacon wafting through the air. The table was already set with coffee at Darlin’s seat, and Sam was still by the stove. They crept up behind him and rested their head on his shoulder, and he leaned his head back onto theirs. “It’s still gonna take a few more minutes, you don’t have to stand here waitin’ for it. Take a seat ‘n rest your legs, Darlin’. I know you’re still tired.”
They snaked their arms around his torso and squeezed tightly. “I could do that… but you’re over here. I can’t hold you from all the way over there at the table, can I?” Sam let out a chuckle. “Guess not. But you also won’t get splashed by flyin’ bacon grease if you’re sittin’ at the table.”
“I can take that risk,” they said softly as they once again nuzzled into his neck."
Notes:
Alright so I started writing this in November and it originally was an OC story from years ago that I abandoned, and I decided to repurpose it into a Sam and Darlin fic!! (And yes it took me five months to write two pages dont judge me LMAO)
I'd like to thank the academy and my girlfriend and my then-unfinished Echo drawing for giving me the motivation and necessary distraction to finish this up lol
Work Text:
Darlin’ rolled over in their bed and felt a warm, empty space beside them.
“Sam…?” they murmured sleepily.
“I’m over here, Darlin’.” called a voice from across the room.
Their eyes fluttered open and lazily scanned around their dark room. They groggily sat up and looked over at the tall figure by the closet door.
“Sam… what time is it?” they asked, rubbing their eyes.
He glanced at the clock on the wall next to him. “It’s 5:30am. You don’t have to wake up yet, I just needa beat the sun before it starts risin’.” He took out a shirt and put it on, checking for wrinkles in the full body mirror hanging on the closet door.
“No, it’s okay,” they yawned, “I need to start getting ready for work anyway.” They raised their arms and groaned as they stretched. “We have an important client today so David wants us at the location early.” Sam chuckled at his sweet looking mate and walked back to the bed. Darlin’ motioned for him to bend down, and when he did, wrapped their arms around his neck. They halfheartedly tried pulling him back into bed, but he scooped them up and walked over to the dresser. “Saaam, put me down, I can walk on my own.” They said half heartedly as they leaned their head into the crook of his neck.
“It doesn’t look like it. Are you sure you don’t want to go back to bed? You can still sleep a little longer if need be.” He gazed into their half-lidded eyes, but they shook their head.
“I’m awake, honestly.” The vampire hesitated a little before finally letting them down.
Once they were standing on their own two feet, Darlin rubbed their eyes and yawned again. They placed their hands on the edge of the dresser and stared into the mirror. Their own eyes stared back, and then fell onto the tangled mess that was their hair. They picked up a brush and started gradually combing through it. They glanced up at Sam in the mirror, who was smiling warmly back at them. His still-messy hair fell across his soft silver eyes, and he wrapped his arms around their waist.
“What d’you wanna eat for breakfast? I’m gonna make you some while you get ready.” He said as he rested his chin on their shoulder, tickling them with his stubble.
“You don’t need to make me breakfast, you might end up missing sunrise.” Darlin put the brush down and turned their body to face him, again burying their face in his neck as they wrapped their arms around his torso. Sam kissed their head and they nuzzled in a little closer. “I’ll deal with that when we get to it. I’ll be fine Darlin’, don’t you worry ‘bout a thing. Now, what d’you wanna eat?” Darlin looked up and tilted their head thoughtfully. “Hmm… bacon and eggs sounds good right about now.” They turned their head to look at him, and he gently kissed their lips. “Sounds perfect,” he said after a moment’s pause. They giggled and pulled him in for another kiss.
A few minutes later, Darlin stepped out of their bedroom to the smell of coffee and frying bacon wafting through the air. The table was already set with coffee at Darlin’s seat, and Sam was still by the stove. They crept up behind him and rested their head on his shoulder, and he leaned his head back onto theirs. “It’s still gonna take a few more minutes, you don’t have to stand here waitin’ for it. Take a seat ‘n rest your legs, Darlin’. I know you’re still tired.”
They snaked their arms around his torso and squeezed tightly. “I could do that… but you’re over here. I can’t hold you from all the way over there at the table, can I?” Sam let out a chuckle. “Guess not. But you also won’t get splashed by flyin’ bacon grease if you’re sittin’ at the table.”
“I can take that risk,” they said softly as they once again nuzzled into his neck.
Sam hummed to himself as he finished the rest of the food, and Darlin’ could feel themself starting to doze off again as they stood, pressed up against their mate. When he finally finished, he tried to walk over to the table to set the food down, but Darlin’ let out a soft “mmmrh” into his neck, silently protesting the fact that they had to move.
“C’mon Darlin’, you can walk with me to the table. I ain’t tellin’ you to let go yet.”
They let out another “mmrh,” but obliged, and took small steps along with their mate to the table.
Once there, Sam put the food down on both of their plates and Darlin’ begrudgingly sat down in their own seat. The scent of bacon and eggs filled their nose as they started eating breakfast. Sam smiled to himself as he watched his mate enjoy his food, and then started on his own plate.
“I know I shouldn’t be mad that you’re a better cook than me but like…” Darlin’ took a sip of their coffee, “you don’t even have to eat this stuff and it still tastes better than whenever I try to make it.”
“That’s cuz you always forget to put salt in your eggs,” Sam chuckled as he took another bite of his food. “Although, you are gettin’ better. At least you know how to make things from scratch now.” They rolled their eyes. “Hey, I knew how to make food before you got here too y’know. I just preferred the pre-made stuff, so I was a little… out of practice.” Sam raised an eyebrow. “Darlin’, the first time you tried to make food in my presence you had to look up how to make hot water without a microwave.” They looked away with a slight blush on their cheeks. “Okay listen… we don’t talk about that.” Sam laughed as his mate stuffed their mouth with food.
By the time the both of them finished eating, the sun had already started to peek through the blinds of the kitchen window.
“Ah shit, the sun beat us to it.” Darlin said as they gathered the dishes and took them to the sink. “Now hold on, what d’you think you’re doin?” Sam protested, following them.
“I’m doing the dishes, what does it look like?” They responded, picking up the sponge.
Sam slid his hand down to their wrist and gently pulled it back. “And what makes you think I’d let you do em without objectin’?” Darlin’ smirked. “Oh I knew you’d object, but I’m not letting you do them after you made breakfast.” They took their arm back and gave him a kiss. “It’s the least I can do.” They pushed him away with their hip and turned back to the sink. “Now hurry up and get outta here before the sun gets too high.” Sam chuckled and shook his head.
Fine . You’re lucky I promised William that I’d help him set up for somethin today, or else I’d be givin you a harder time.” Darlin stuck their tongue out at him and he rolled his eyes with a smile.
“See you later Darlin,” Sam said as he pressed a kiss on their forehead, “I love you.”
“Love you too,” they said back, nuzzling into his nose before pulling away and bringing their attention back to the sink.
