Work Text:
We are ghosts of the American Dream
Victims of the American Dream
Evidence of the Dream’s failure
Me and my Half Brother and my Other Half Brother
All children of the same man
He slept with 3 married women
That is the first part of how the American Dream failed
We are triplets, born in the same year but a couple months apart
I am in my Half Brother’s house
He is so obviously the ghost of the American Dream
His parents and sisters, pretty-pink-blonde-brunette people
My Half Brother is a phantom in this house, floating from room to room
He is a warning: If you stop playing sitcom-happy you will become like me
We are all like this
A Punk
A Hippie
A Queer
Things you should not be
Warning labels
We are the characters in PSAs that are obviously the bad guys, the examples of bad behavior
Things you shouldn’t WANT be
A Punk
A Hippie
A Queer
Me and my Half Brother and my Other Half Brother even look like ghosts, milk skin, coal-colored hair
These are also traits of the Boogeyman
Lurking in the background of photos and memories, haunting the pretty-pink-blonde-brunette people
Stealing your nice, American Dreams, and replacing them with nightmares of things that would ruin them, dirty things that you should not WANT be
A Punk (My Half Brother)
A Hippie (Me)
A Queer (My Other Half Brother)
Three ghosts
Three warnings
Three bad examples
Triplets
(Oh how I Love my Brothers Dearly)
